Prime Video renews ‘Sterling Point’ for second season

Prime Video has renewed its coming-of-age drama Sterling Point for a second season, giving fans another chapter of the series’ emotional family story, friendships and summer adventures.

The streaming platform announced Thursday that the drama, created by Megan Park, will return with Ella Rubin reprising her role as Annie Jacobson, a New York teenager whose life changes dramatically after she inherits a remote Canadian island in Muskoka. What begins as an unexpected inheritance soon becomes a journey of self-discovery as Annie uncovers long-hidden family secrets and adjusts to a world far removed from her life in the city.

Throughout the first season, Annie forms new friendships while navigating complicated relationships and the challenges that come with discovering more about her family and herself. Among the characters who become central to her new life is Ramona, portrayed by Amélie Hoeferle, whose friendship with Annie has become one of the most closely followed dynamics among viewers.

The renewal is expected to allow the creative team to explore the characters and their relationships in greater depth. With Annie’s new life in Muskoka continuing to unfold, Season 2 has the opportunity to build on the emotional discoveries of the first season while introducing new conflicts and adventures.

The announcement has already sparked excitement among fans, many of whom took to social media to celebrate the renewal. A major point of discussion has been the relationship between Annie and Ramona, with viewers calling for more of the duo’s dynamic in the upcoming season. At the same time, some fans have expressed hope that the series will maintain the relationships and character arcs that made the first season meaningful.

For Prime Video, the renewal reflects continued confidence in Sterling Point and its young ensemble. The series has combined the familiar themes of friendship and growing up with mystery, family drama and the atmosphere of a secluded summer setting.

While specific plot details for Season 2 remain under wraps, the renewal promises more time with Annie and the people who have become part of her unexpected new world. As production moves forward, fans will be watching closely to see which relationships deepen, which secrets emerge and what the next summer on the island will bring.

Rick Moranis gets emotional after Spaceballs sequel ovation

Rick Moranis made a rare public appearance at a special screening of Spaceballs: The New One, where the beloved actor became emotional after receiving a standing ovation from the audience. The Canadian comedian and actor surprised fans by joining his co-stars Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman and Daphne Zuniga during the event held in San Diego on Friday, July 24, 2026. The appearance marked another milestone in Moranis’ long-awaited return to the big screen after years away from acting. Following the screening of the upcoming comedy, the audience applauded the cast with an enthusiastic standing ovation. The heartfelt response visibly moved Moranis, who later addressed the crowd from the stage and reflected on his decision to return for the sequel. Speaking to attendees, Moranis joked that he had little choice but to accept the project because Josh Gad would not stop contacting him. He then revealed that conversations about making a sequel had actually begun decades ago with filmmaker Mel Brooks. According to Moranis, discussions about continuing the Spaceballs story first started in 1989. Although the project remained in development for years, it never reached production. During that period, he had also considered returning to another fan-favorite franchise through a new Honey, I Shrunk the Kids film. The actor also dismissed the long-standing belief that he had completely retired from acting. With his trademark humor, he said he was never truly retired and joked that he had simply been “negotiating” all along. Moranis explained that everything finally came together when he learned more about the cast and creative team behind the sequel. After speaking with director Josh Greenbaum and discovering that original cast member Bill Pullman would return alongside his son, Lewis Pullman, he felt the timing was perfect. He said meeting the team and seeing the passion surrounding the production convinced him that it was the right moment to step back into the iconic role. Moranis described accepting the project as one of the best decisions he has ever made. Amazon MGM Studios officially confirmed in September 2025 that Moranis would reprise his legendary role as Dark Helmet, the unforgettable parody of Darth Vader from Mel Brooks’ 1987 sci-fi comedy Spaceballs. His return generated excitement among longtime fans who had waited decades to see the actor back on screen. The sequel also reunites Bill Pullman, who originally portrayed Lone Starr, a humorous parody inspired by classic Star Wars heroes. This time, Pullman will appear alongside his son Lewis Pullman, adding a new generation to the franchise while maintaining ties to the original film. With several original cast members returning and new stars joining the adventure, Spaceballs: The New One aims to introduce the beloved comedy to a new audience while celebrating the legacy of the 1987 classic.

Joe Root returns as England Test captain, Fleming takes coaching charge

England have made major changes to their Test setup, appointing Joe Root as captain for a second stint and naming former New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming as head coach. The decisions come after Brendon McCullum was removed from the Test coaching role and Ben Stokes stepped away from international cricket earlier this month. Root, 35, previously led England in 64 Test matches between 2017 and 2022. He briefly returned to captaincy during the recent series against New Zealand and has now been given the responsibility of guiding England’s next generation of Test players. The Yorkshire batter is among the greatest run-scorers in Test history, sitting second on the all-time list behind India legend Sachin Tendulkar with more than 14,000 runs. Expressing his delight at the appointment, Root said leading England in Test cricket remains a great honour and challenge. He added that he is excited to work with the team and help develop emerging talent. Root also praised Fleming, describing him as an outstanding leader with deep knowledge of the game. Fleming, who enjoyed a successful coaching career with Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League, has been appointed to lead England’s Test side. Under his guidance, Chennai won five IPL titles, making him one of the most respected coaches in world cricket. The 53-year-old said his focus would be on immediate success while also building a strong foundation for England’s long-term future. He expressed excitement about working with Root and helping him succeed in his second spell as captain. England’s next Test assignment will be a three-match series against Pakistan, starting on August 19. Marcus Trescothick will handle coaching duties on an interim basis before Fleming officially takes charge later this year. England men’s cricket managing director Rob Key praised Fleming’s appointment, saying he has the experience and leadership qualities needed to turn England’s promising squad into a world-class team.

Robert Pattinson to hang up Batman cape after Reeves trilogy

Robert Pattinson is reportedly preparing to end his journey as Batman after completing the planned trilogy directed by Matt Reeves. Pattinson first appeared as the iconic DC superhero in 2022’s The Batman, which offered a darker and more grounded interpretation of Bruce Wayne. The film was directed by Reeves and became a major success, paving the way for further chapters in the story. The actor is set to return as Batman in The Batman Part II, which is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on February 18, 2028. A third instalment is also planned, and recent reports indicate that it could mark Pattinson’s final appearance under the cape. In the first film, Batman investigates the murder of Gotham City’s mayor and becomes entangled in a disturbing mystery involving the Riddler, played by Paul Dano. As the investigation develops, Bruce Wayne uncovers links between Gotham’s criminal world, his family’s history and the city’s troubled past. The film concluded with the Riddler being imprisoned at Arkham State Hospital. There, he encounters another inmate whose identity strongly hints at the Joker, played by Barry Keoghan. The character is expected to have a larger presence in the upcoming sequel. The Batman Part II is expected to expand Reeves’ version of Gotham while introducing several returning and new characters. Pattinson will once again lead the cast as Batman, while Jeffrey Wright is expected to return as James Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan are also among the names linked to the highly anticipated sequel. If Pattinson exits the role after the third film, his departure would close a major chapter in Reeves’ Batman saga. The planned trilogy is expected to complete the director’s current vision of the character while leaving open the possibility of future stories within DC’s wider universe.

Infantino’s future in doubt after FIFA rights controversy

FIFA president Gianni Infantino is facing growing criticism after abandoning a controversial proposal to sell a stake in the commercial rights of the FIFA World Cup, a move that has raised questions about his leadership and decision-making within world football’s governing body. The proposal sparked strong opposition from several football organizations, particularly regional confederations and professional leagues, who argued that such a major commercial decision should not have been pursued without broader consultation. Critics believe the plan exposed concerns over transparency and governance at FIFA. Claudius Schaefer, the chairman of the organization representing 53 professional men’s and women’s football leagues across Europe and the chief executive of the Swiss Football League, said the handling of the proposal had seriously damaged confidence in FIFA’s leadership. According to Schaefer, the situation would have significant consequences in most organizations, especially when a senior executive advances a major business initiative without informing or involving key governing bodies. He suggested that the controversy has left Infantino’s position under increased scrutiny. The proposal was officially withdrawn after widespread resistance from football stakeholders. The decision came following criticism from various regional football confederations, with UEFA and CONCACAF publicly expressing that they had lost confidence in Infantino’s leadership after the episode. Schaefer argued that the failed proposal reflected a broader concern about FIFA’s priorities. He said the organization appeared increasingly focused on generating greater commercial revenue rather than protecting the long-term interests of football competitions, players, clubs, and domestic leagues. He also warned that expanding commercial opportunities could encourage FIFA to create even larger tournaments and increase the number of international matches. Such developments, he said, would place additional pressure on an already crowded football calendar. Professional leagues have repeatedly voiced concerns over fixture congestion, arguing that players are being asked to participate in too many matches throughout the season. Domestic competitions, they say, often bear the consequences when international tournaments continue to expand. Schaefer emphasized that national leagues remain the foundation of professional football and should not be weakened by decisions aimed primarily at increasing commercial returns. He argued that any future reforms to international competitions must balance financial objectives with the welfare of players and the health of domestic football. Another major point of criticism centered on FIFA’s decision-making process. Schaefer claimed that even members of the FIFA Council—the organization’s highest decision-making body—were reportedly unaware of the proposal before it became public. He described this lack of consultation as surprising and said it raised serious concerns about governance within FIFA. The controversy has intensified calls for greater transparency and accountability in football administration. Many stakeholders believe decisions involving the commercial future of the World Cup should involve extensive discussion with FIFA’s governing bodies, member associations, leagues, and other key partners before being considered. Although FIFA has now withdrawn the proposal, the fallout continues to fuel debate over leadership, governance, and the future direction of world football. With criticism coming from influential football organizations across different regions, pressure remains on Infantino to rebuild trust and demonstrate a more inclusive approach to decision-making on matters affecting the global game.

Karachi court acquits Anmol alias Pinky in three d…

KARACHI: An Additional District and Sessions Court in Karachi has acquitted Anmol alias Pinky in three drug cases registered at Gizri Police Station. The court announced the decision on Thursday after hearing arguments from the defence. Pinky was arrested by Karachi police in May during a joint operation with a civil agency at an apartment in the Garden area. Police had accused her of operating an organised narcotics supply network in Karachi. Investigators alleged that the network was involved in processing and distributing cocaine and had links with other major cities, including Lahore and Islamabad. According to police, the three cases against Pinky were registered at Gizri Police Station in 2020, 2021 and 2022. She had remained a fugitive in the cases before her arrest. During Thursday’s hearing, Pinky’s defence counsel argued that two other accused persons in the cases had already been acquitted. The lawyer told the court that co-accused Ali and Fehmida were acquitted in 2024. He argued that Pinky had subsequently been implicated on the basis of statements attributed to the acquitted co-accused. The defence maintained that after the acquittal of the two co-accused, there was insufficient legal basis to convict Pinky in the cases. The court accepted the defence arguments and acquitted her in all three cases. Before her acquittal, investigators had made several allegations about Pinky’s alleged role in the narcotics trade. Police claimed she supplied drugs to customers in affluent areas of Karachi, including DHA and Clifton. Investigators also alleged that she personally prepared cocaine and used female riders and online platforms to facilitate deliveries. Police further claimed that her alleged network extended beyond Karachi to cities including Lahore and Islamabad. During interrogation, investigators attributed statements to Pinky regarding the quality and sale of cocaine. Police alleged that two categories of cocaine were being sold through the network at different prices. Pinky, however, made separate allegations during interrogation. She claimed she was being pressured to name politicians and members of the entertainment industry. She also alleged that she had been subjected to physical mistreatment during questioning and accused an investigation officer of threatening her.

Ariana Grande details future plans after announcin…

Ariana Grande is preparing to take a well-earned break from the spotlight after years of nonstop work. The Grammy-winning singer recently confirmed that she plans to step away from public life following the conclusion of her Eternal Sunshine Tour, choosing to prioritize rest, personal time, and the people who matter most to her. According to reports, Grande intends to spend much of her hiatus with family, close friends, and boyfriend Ricky Alvarez as she embraces a quieter chapter of her life.  An insider told Page Six that the singer is looking forward to slowing down after an incredibly busy period. “She’ll be spending a lot of time with her family, friends, and Ricky,” the source revealed, adding that Grande wants to recharge away from the constant demands of the entertainment industry. The couple reportedly plan to keep things low-key while enjoying quality time together.  Grande first addressed her decision during an emotional speech at a concert in Chicago. Speaking directly to fans, she explained that the hiatus was not a sudden reaction to recent headlines or online criticism. Instead, she said it had been carefully planned long before and reflected her desire to establish healthier personal boundaries after years of intense work.  The singer emphasized that taking a break does not mean she is walking away from music forever. She reassured fans that she still loves performing and creating art, describing her recent tour as one of the most meaningful experiences of her career. However, she also acknowledged that rest is essential and that setting boundaries is an important part of maintaining both personal happiness and creative inspiration.  Grande’s decision follows one of the busiest stretches of her professional life. In recent years, she completed work on both Wicked films, released the albums Eternal Sunshine and Petal, filmed the upcoming comedy Focker-in-Law, and embarked on a major international tour. She also recently stepped away from the planned West End production of Sunday in the Park with George, reinforcing her commitment to slowing down.  Sources close to the singer say her support system has encouraged her decision. Family members and close friends reportedly believe this period of rest will allow Grande to focus on herself after years of balancing demanding schedules and intense public attention. Ricky Alvarez, with whom she has recently rekindled a relationship, is also said to be a steady source of encouragement during this new chapter.  Although fans may miss seeing Grande constantly in the spotlight, many have applauded her decision to put her well-being first. The singer has repeatedly spoken about the importance of protecting her peace and recognizing when it is time to step back. For now, Ariana Grande’s future plans are refreshingly simple: spend time with loved ones, enjoy life away from cameras, and return only when she feels ready. It is a reminder that even one of the world’s biggest pop stars understands the value of slowing down and making space for the people who matter most.
