Sindh Governor Nihal Hashmi calls for hard work an…

Sindh Governor Nihal Hashmi has said that Pakistan has become militarily invincible and stressed that “work, work and work” should remain the nation’s guiding principle for the country’s progress and prosperity.

The governor made these remarks while addressing an Independence Day ceremony at the Governor House, where he hoisted the national flag and offered prayers for the security, stability and prosperity of Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion, Nihal Hashmi said that Independence Day was an opportunity to remember the people who struggled and made sacrifices for the creation of Pakistan. He emphasized that the nation should honour their efforts by working sincerely for the development of the country.

“Work, work and work should be our motto,” the governor said, calling on citizens to contribute actively to the country’s progress. He stressed that Pakistan’s future depends not only on government institutions but also on the commitment and responsibility of every citizen.

The Sindh governor also spoke about Pakistan’s defence capabilities, saying that the country had become militarily invincible. He said that when India challenged Pakistan’s defence, Field Marshal Asim Munir gave India a “befitting response,” adding that the response demonstrated Pakistan’s strength and resilience.

Hashmi said Pakistan’s defence capabilities had earned recognition internationally. He maintained that the country had shown that it was capable of protecting its sovereignty and responding effectively to any threat.

The Independence Day ceremony at Governor House was attended by officials and other guests. The national flag was hoisted as part of the celebrations, while prayers were offered for the country’s security, peace and prosperity.

The governor also highlighted the importance of cleanliness and civic responsibility. He said that keeping homes, schools, neighbourhoods and cities clean was the responsibility of every citizen. He urged people to play their part in improving their surroundings instead of relying solely on government institutions to address cleanliness and sanitation issues.

According to Hashmi, national development begins at the individual and community levels. If citizens take responsibility for maintaining clean streets and public spaces, it can contribute to a healthier and more organized society.

He further called on every Pakistani to play a constructive role in the country’s development and prosperity. He said that citizens should perform their responsibilities honestly and work collectively to strengthen the country.

The governor’s message on Independence Day centred on three major themes: national unity, hard work and civic responsibility. He said that remembering the sacrifices made for Pakistan should inspire citizens to work for its future rather than merely celebrate Independence Day as a national occasion.

He also emphasized that Pakistan’s continued progress requires collective efforts from people across the country. From maintaining cleanliness in local communities to contributing to economic and social development, every citizen can play a role in strengthening the nation.

Concluding his message, Nihal Hashmi urged citizens to remain committed to Pakistan’s progress and prosperity. He said that the country’s future could be strengthened when individuals, communities and institutions work together with a sense of responsibility and dedication.

Shah Rukh Khan’s King set for major box office clash in December

Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming action thriller King is gearing up for one of the biggest box office battles of the year as its scheduled December release places it alongside several highly anticipated Hollywood blockbusters. Directed by Siddharth Anand, King is set to arrive in cinemas on December 24, a date that will also see the release of major international films including Avengers: Doomsday, Dune 3, and Jumanji: Open World. The crowded release window is expected to create intense competition both in India and overseas, making it one of the most closely watched clashes of the holiday season. Among the Hollywood titles, Avengers: Doomsday is widely expected to be the strongest rival. The Marvel franchise has built an enormous fan base in India over the years, with several of its previous films enjoying record-breaking openings and impressive box office collections. Its popularity could present a significant challenge for King, particularly when it comes to attracting audiences during the festive period. The competition is expected to be even tougher in international markets. With three major Hollywood franchises arriving simultaneously, exhibitors may face difficult decisions regarding screen allocation and show timings. Large-scale global releases often dominate multiplex schedules, leaving less room for other films, even those led by major stars. Despite these challenges, the makers of King have shown confidence in the film’s potential and have reportedly decided to stick with the planned release date. Rather than avoiding the clash, the production team appears determined to let the film compete head-to-head with some of the biggest releases of the year. Industry observers believe that only a project of King’s scale, backed by Shah Rukh Khan’s global popularity, has the ability to stand alongside such powerful Hollywood franchises. The actor remains one of India’s biggest box office draws, and expectations surrounding the film have continued to grow since its announcement. Adding to the excitement is the fact that King will mark the first full-fledged on-screen collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and his daughter, Suhana Khan. Fans are eager to see the father-daughter duo share screen space in what is expected to be a high-octane action entertainer. The film also boasts an impressive ensemble cast featuring Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Raghav Juyal, and Rani Mukerji in key roles, further raising anticipation among moviegoers. International distribution is being handled by Yash Raj Films, whose extensive global network and experience in releasing Indian films overseas could help maximize the film’s reach. Their expertise is expected to play an important role in securing favorable screens and show schedules across key international territories. As the countdown to December begins, King is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about releases of the year. Whether it can hold its own against three major Hollywood franchises remains to be seen, but the film’s star power, large-scale production, and strong cast have positioned it as a formidable contender in what promises to be an exciting holiday box office showdown.

Liverpool sign Ronald Araujo on loan from Barcelona

Liverpool have moved to strengthen their defence by signing Ronald Araujo on a season-long loan from Barcelona, giving the Uruguay international a fresh opportunity after falling down the pecking order at the Spanish club. Barcelona confirmed on Monday that Araujo will spend the 2026-27 season at Anfield, with the agreement running until June 30, 2027. The Catalan club did not reveal the financial terms, but reports in the Spanish media indicate that Liverpool will cover his wages and have an option to make the transfer permanent for €55 million ($63.5m). The move marks a significant change for Araujo, who had been regarded as one of Barcelona’s key defensive players. The 27-year-old renewed his contract with the Catalan giants in 2025, extending his deal until 2031. However, his position became increasingly uncertain under Barcelona coach Hansi Flick. Young defender Pau Cubarsi emerged as a central figure in the back line, while Eric Garcia and Gerard Martin also competed for defensive roles. Araujo made 35 appearances across all competitions last season but spent several weeks away from football because of mental exhaustion. After returning in January, he struggled to regain a regular starting position. His move to Liverpool comes at a crucial time for the Premier League club. Liverpool need defensive reinforcements after Ibrahima Konate departed for Real Madrid, while Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni are currently injured. Araujo could therefore find himself playing an important role alongside experienced captain Virgil van Dijk, particularly as Liverpool begin a new chapter under Spanish coach Andoni Iraola. The Uruguayan defender, who was part of Uruguay’s squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup but did not feature, said he was eager to begin his Liverpool journey. “I’m excited to be here at this massive club with lots of history,” Araujo said. “I’m excited to meet my team-mates, excited to get started playing, and I’m very motivated.” He described the transfer as the right move at this stage of his career, suggesting that regular football was an important factor behind his decision. Liverpool have also strengthened their defensive options by signing young French defender Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes. For Araujo, the challenge is clear: turn a difficult period at Barcelona into a new beginning at Anfield—and prove that he still belongs among Europe’s elite defenders.

Saudi-US talks focus on easing regional tensions, …

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and US Central Command chief Admiral Brad Cooper have held talks on regional security and efforts to ease tensions, as the conflict involving Iran continues to threaten stability and global energy supplies. According to Saudi state media, the two officials discussed defence cooperation between Riyadh and Washington, developments across the region and diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and strengthening security. The meeting came as concerns surrounding the Strait of Hormuz intensified. The strategic waterway remains a major route for global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments, and disruptions caused by the conflict have raised fears of further pressure on international energy markets. Saudi Arabia also announced the launch of a multinational defensive maritime alliance, with 13 countries joining the initiative. Representatives from 39 countries attended a planning meeting held at the Western Fleet Command in Jeddah, which Saudi authorities described as an important step towards putting the alliance into operation. Meanwhile, Washington has signalled that its economic and military pressure on Tehran could intensify. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the United States was preparing measures against Iran on a scale not previously seen in efforts to economically isolate a country. Bessent said the strategy would combine tougher economic restrictions with continued pressure surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. He indicated that further announcements could come next week as Washington seeks to increase pressure on Tehran. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth also said the US Navy could maintain a blockade of Iranian ports and shipping routes for an indefinite period, arguing that American forces had sufficient capacity to rotate vessels and sustain the operation. The standoff has already severely affected shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Traffic has fallen sharply compared with levels recorded before the conflict, when roughly 130 to 140 vessels passed through the waterway each day. The decline has raised concerns about disruptions to international energy supplies. Tensions escalated further after two vessels operated by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company were reportedly attacked while travelling through the strait. The UAE condemned the incident and blamed Iran for the attacks. Iran has rejected US claims over control of the waterway and has indicated that normal shipping will not resume until its demands are addressed. Tehran has called for the removal of economic sanctions and the release of frozen Iranian assets. The conflict is also putting increasing pressure on global oil markets. The International Energy Agency has revised its estimate for the decline in global oil supply, projecting a reduction of about 4.3 million barrels per day this year, equivalent to around 4% of global supply. Although oil prices fell by more than 2% on Thursday amid concerns over weaker demand and rising US crude inventories, renewed reports of attacks linked to Iran-backed forces have continued to fuel uncertainty in energy markets. The economic consequences are spreading beyond the region, with economists warning that a prolonged conflict could significantly weaken global growth and increase the risk of recession in some economies. US President Donald Trump has faced growing domestic pressure to bring the conflict to an end as higher fuel prices weigh on American consumers and threaten his political standing ahead of November’s midterm elections. While Trump has repeatedly warned that military action against Iran could escalate, he has so far avoided deploying ground troops or launching attacks against some of the region’s most sensitive strategic targets. More recently, he has indicated a greater reliance on economic pressure. Hegseth, meanwhile, said Washington’s priority remained preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon and declined to comment on whether previous ceasefire decisions had been mistakes. With diplomatic efforts struggling and tensions around the Strait of Hormuz continuing, Saudi-US security coordination is emerging as a key factor in attempts to contain the wider regional crisis and protect vital international shipping routes.

The Anti-Corruption Department has conducted an inquiry into alleged irregularities and appointments to key positions at Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC), raising questions over the appointment procedures and eligibility of several candidates. The inquiry report identified alleged violations of rules and regulations in appointments to important positions, including Director Finance, Chief Internal Auditor, Director Supply Chain, and Director Research and Clinical Audit. According to the report, a person was appointed as Director Finance despite allegedly failing to meet the prescribed eligibility criteria. The inquiry also found that the candidate who secured the top position on merit for the post of Chief Internal Auditor was allegedly overlooked. The report further stated that the appointment of the Director Supply Chain was made despite the candidate allegedly not meeting the required technical expertise criteria. Similarly, the inquiry raised objections to the appointment of the Director Research and Clinical Audit, stating that the appointee allegedly did not meet the required eligibility criteria. The Anti-Corruption Department said the appointments allegedly violated provisions of the Medical Teaching Institutions (MTI) Act and relevant rules and regulations. Based on its findings, the inquiry recommended that the disputed appointments be cancelled. The report also recommended action against the Chairman and members of the Board of Governors, along with other officials allegedly involved in the appointment process. According to the inquiry report, the disputed appointments remained in place for around three years, allegedly causing a financial loss of approximately Rs150 million to the public exchequer. The inquiry recommended recovering the alleged financial loss from the individuals responsible. The Anti-Corruption Department has also recommended verification of the educational qualifications, professional experience and certificates of the officials concerned. The verification is aimed at determining whether the documents submitted by the candidates at the time of their appointments met the prescribed criteria and were in accordance with the relevant rules. The matter has already been under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Department. A petition challenging appointments to key posts, including Director Finance, Chief Internal Auditor and Director Supply Chain, is also pending before the Peshawar High Court.
