Songkran road accidents in Prachuap Khiri Khan
Road accidents in Prachuap Khiri Khan during the Songkran festival resulted in 36 incidents, 33 injuries, and three deaths over the seven-day monitoring period from 10 to 16 April, according to provincial authorities.
The figures were confirmed during a closing meeting of the Songkran Road Accident Prevention and Reduction Operations Centre, held on 17 April at Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Hall.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Governor Preeda Sukjai and attended by senior officials from disaster prevention, police, and internal security agencies. The session was conducted via electronic link, with the Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Theerapat Kachamat, presiding from the department’s headquarters.
Songkran road accidents recorded across multiple districts
Officials reported that on 16 April alone, five road accidents occurred across the province, leaving five people injured and no fatalities. The incidents were recorded in Thap Sakae, Bang Saphan Noi, Sam Roi Yot, Hua Hin, and Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan districts.
Across the full monitoring period, road accidents in Prachuap Khiri Khan totalled 36 cases. Authorities recorded 33 injuries and three deaths, reflecting continued road safety concerns during one of Thailand’s busiest travel periods.
During the meeting, Preeda said there is a need to strengthen safety planning for both residents and visitors, particularly during major holiday periods such as Songkran, when traffic volumes increase significantly.
He also highlighted the importance of improving safety measures in coastal areas, noting that large numbers of tourists enter the sea during the festival. He said sufficient personnel should be deployed to monitor beaches and ensure public safety.
Officials from multiple agencies were thanked for their coordination and efforts in managing safety operations throughout the Songkran period.
