Supreme Court upholds landlord’s right to us…

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ruled that a property owner has the exclusive right to decide how to use their property and is not bound by the wishes or preferences of a tenant. The judgment came while deciding a long-running landlord-tenant dispute involving a residential building in Karachi’s Saddar area.

In an eight-page verdict authored by Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi, the apex court set aside an earlier decision of the Sindh High Court, which had ruled in favour of the tenant.

The Supreme Court observed that it is a well-established legal principle that a property owner is the sole judge of their own requirements. The court held that if a landlord submits a sworn statement declaring the need to use their property personally, that statement is sufficient to establish bona fide necessity unless proven otherwise.

The judgment further stated that an owner cannot be compelled to use another portion of the property simply because a tenant believes alternative accommodation is available. The court emphasised that the landlord’s choice regarding the use of their property cannot be dictated by the tenant.

The case involved a dispute over a flat in a building located in Karachi’s Saddar neighbourhood. During the proceedings, the tenant argued that several other flats in the same building had become vacant and could instead be used by the landlord. The Sindh High Court accepted this argument and ruled in favour of the tenant.

However, the Supreme Court disagreed with that reasoning, stating that the availability of other vacant units does not deprive the owner of the right to reclaim a specific property for personal use.

Allowing the landlord’s appeal, the Supreme Court ordered the tenant to vacate the flat within six months, bringing the legal dispute to a close while reaffirming the property rights of landlords under the law.

Ronaldo wedding rumor sends fans to wrong Church

FUNCHAL: Hundreds of Cristiano Ronaldo fans reportedly gathered outside a historic cathedral in Portugal over the weekend, hoping to catch a glimpse of the football superstar on his wedding day — only to discover that they had arrived for someone else’s ceremony. Rumors circulating on social media and in media reports claimed that Ronaldo was set to marry his longtime partner, Georgina Rodriguez, on Saturday in Funchal, the capital of Portugal’s Madeira island. Although Ronaldo’s family reportedly denied the claims, the speculation was enough to send scores of excited fans and journalists to the city’s historic Sé Cathedral. Many waited outside for hours, holding mobile phones and cameras in anticipation of the arrival of the Al Nassr star and Rodriguez. But the expected celebrity wedding never happened. Instead, the cathedral was preparing to host the wedding of a local couple, Nicole and Fabio. Fabio had already arrived at the church, while Nicole faced an unexpected challenge: getting through the crowd that had gathered outside believing Ronaldo would soon appear. The unusual situation created confusion around the cathedral, with tourists, fans and members of the media filling the surrounding streets. The Sé Cathedral administration later addressed the incident on its official Facebook page, congratulating the newly married couple while explaining that the large number of journalists and tourists had caused considerable confusion. The church eventually had to be closed while the wedding ceremony took place. In another post, the cathedral described the scene outside as something it had never experienced before, noting that the bride had difficulty entering the church because of the crowd. The guests also appeared to find the situation amusing. One guest joked to local media that they suddenly felt like celebrities themselves. Another questioned how anyone could have believed Ronaldo would arrive for a wedding without significant security arrangements. Ronaldo himself appeared to see the funny side of the episode. The footballer reportedly reacted to an Instagram post about the confusion with laughing-with-tears emojis, giving fans a glimpse of his reaction without directly confirming or denying any future wedding plans. Ronaldo and Rodriguez have been together for years and became engaged last year. Reports have previously claimed that Ronaldo presented Rodriguez with an expensive engagement ring featuring a large diamond. Despite the latest frenzy in Madeira, the couple has not announced a wedding date. For now, fans hoping to witness Ronaldo walk down the aisle will have to wait — and perhaps check the guest list before heading to the church.

Fact check: SRK never backed Jantar Mantar protest

A social media claim suggesting that Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan publicly backed the ongoing student demonstrations at Jantar Mantar in Delhi has been found to be untrue, following verification against his official accounts. A screenshot circulating widely online alleged that the actor had voiced solidarity with the protesting students. The post claimed he described himself as standing behind them “emotionally and morally.” The image spread rapidly, and a large number of social media users took it at face value, assuming Khan had genuinely made a public statement on the matter. But a closer look at his verified profiles told a different story. Neither his official Instagram nor his X account contained any post referencing the protest. According to various reports, the mix-up likely originated from a fan-run account operating under his name, which had been posting updates related to the demonstrations. A number of users apparently mistook these fan posts for statements coming directly from the actor himself. As the fake screenshot kept circulating, other users began flagging it as inauthentic. Comments pushing back on the claim appeared across social platforms. One person simply labeled it “Fake.” Another echoed the sentiment, writing, “This is fake.” A third user challenged those sharing it, asking why they were “spreading fake news” when the actor “has not posted anything.” Yet another dismissed it in Hindi, writing “Fake hai.” For his part, Shah Rukh Khan has stayed silent on the protest altogether. His attention, based on available reports, remains directed toward his upcoming release, ‘King’, rather than commentary on the demonstrations. The protests themselves have drawn considerable attention, pulling in thousands of participants. The gathering followed the larger ‘Chalo Sansad’ march, which appears to have been a catalyst for the broader movement. At this point, there is no confirmed or verified statement from Shah Rukh Khan addressing the protest in any capacity. Until his official channels indicate otherwise, claims attributing such remarks to him should be treated as unverified and, based on current evidence, false.

    Greek wonderkid Karetsas joins Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund have officially confirmed the signing of Konstantinos Karetsas. The young Greek forward joins from Belgian side Genk. He has put pen to paper on a five-year contract. The transfer news broke on Monday. Reports peg the fee at around 30 million euros. That translates to roughly $34 million. Additional bonuses are also included in the package. Karetsas is only 18 years old. But his numbers already speak volumes. He has scored three goals in ten appearances for Greece’s national team. His club form last season was just as impressive. He delivered 11 assists in the Belgian top flight. Dortmund had a clear gap to fill. The club recently lost Julian Brandt. The experienced playmaker left on a free transfer after years of service. His departure left a creative void in midfield. Karetsas now steps in as the man tasked with filling it. The teenager didn’t hold back his excitement after signing. He called Borussia Dortmund a special club. He said he feels proud to wear the black and yellow jersey. Club officials are equally thrilled. Dortmund’s sporting director praised the young forward’s game. He highlighted Karetsas’s technical skill and sharp footballing brain. According to him, the youngster has a real talent for finding quick solutions under pressure. That skill becomes especially valuable in tight spaces near goal. This transfer likely won’t be Dortmund’s last this summer. The club has also shown interest in another rising star. Cologne’s young German international, Said El Mala, is reportedly on their radar too. Context matters here. Dortmund finished last season as runners-up. Bayern Munich once again claimed the title. That gap is clearly on the club’s mind this transfer window. Signing proven young talent like Karetsas suggests a plan to close it. For Karetsas, this move marks a major step in his career. Moving from Belgian football to one of Europe’s most storied clubs is no small leap. Expectations will be high given his price tag and reputation. Dortmund fans will now watch closely to see how quickly he adapts. If his club and international form are any indication, he could become a key piece in Dortmund’s push to reclaim the title next season.

Iran sent IRGC commanders to aid Houthis: report

Iran is alleged to have flown senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commanders, military advisers and missile- and drone-related equipment to Yemen earlier this month in a move that could significantly strengthen the military capabilities of the Houthi movement, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter. The reported transfer is believed to have taken place on July 13 aboard a Mahan Air flight that departed from Tehran. Sources said the aircraft was originally scheduled to land in the Houthi-controlled capital, Sanaa, but was forced to divert to the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah after military activity disrupted operations at Sanaa International Airport. According to the sources, between 10 and 21 IRGC personnel, including senior commanders, were on board the aircraft. They claimed the mission included military advisers tasked with providing operational support and training on advanced missile systems. The flight was also reportedly carrying missile components, drone-related equipment and gold, which the sources alleged was intended to finance Houthi military operations. The reported shipment has raised fresh concerns that Tehran may be expanding its military support for the group amid growing regional tensions. Officials from Yemen’s internationally recognised government said intelligence indicated that Iranian military experts had arrived to strengthen Houthi capabilities. They claimed the advisers were expected to improve the group’s ability to launch attacks against international shipping in the Red Sea and the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait, one of the world’s busiest maritime trade routes. Regional security analysts also supported the claims, saying the shipment allegedly included components for short- and medium-range missiles as well as drone systems similar to those previously used in attacks across the Gulf region. The reported deployment came only days before the Houthis announced a naval blockade targeting Saudi Arabia. The group later claimed responsibility for attacks on Saudi oil tankers operating in the Red Sea, further escalating tensions and increasing fears over global energy supplies and maritime security. Despite the allegations, both Iran and the Houthi movement strongly denied the reports. A Houthi media official who said he was among the passengers on the flight insisted that everyone on board was a civilian and rejected claims that military personnel or weapons had been transported. Iran has also repeatedly denied supplying advanced weapons to the Houthis or directing their military operations. Iranian officials maintain that the Yemeni group independently develops its own military capabilities and makes its own operational decisions. According to Iranian officials, the July 13 flight was organised to return a Houthi delegation and Yemeni civilians who had travelled to Tehran earlier in the month. They said the passengers included people who had attended a funeral ceremony as well as Yemenis who had received medical treatment in Iran. The allegations have emerged at a time of heightened confrontation across the Middle East, where attacks involving the United States, Iran, Israel and Iran-backed groups have intensified. Growing instability has already disrupted commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, contributing to rising oil prices and increasing uncertainty in global financial markets.
