Taylor Swift fans celebrate Folklore’s sixth anniversary

Taylor Swift fans across the globe are celebrating a major musical milestone today, marking exactly six years since the pop superstar shocked the entertainment world with the surprise release of her critically acclaimed eighth studio album, Folklore.
Dropped with less than 24 hours’ notice on July 24, 2020, during the height of the global COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns, Folklore represented a massive sonic pivot for the artist. Trading her signature upbeat stadium-pop sound for moody, atmospheric indie-folk production, Swift collaborated remotely with Aaron Dessner of The National and Jack Antonoff to craft an introspective record that deeply resonated with a worldwide audience isolated in quarantine.
Fans, affectionately known as Swifties, flooded social media platforms to commemorate the six-year anniversary. Trending hashtags such as #6YearsOfFolklore dominated platforms like X and TikTok, with fans sharing favorite tracks, elaborate lyric deep-dives, and emotional personal stories of how the melancholic album provided a much-needed sense of comfort and escapism during the unprecedented uncertainty of 2020. Popular tracks like “August,” “Cardigan,” and the haunting Bon Iver collaboration “Exile” saw a significant surge in streaming numbers as dedicated listeners revisited the album’s rich, fictional storytelling.
Beyond its massive fan reception, Folklore proved to be both a commercial juggernaut and a towering critical triumph. The 16-track project famously secured the prestigious Album of the Year award at the 2021 Grammy Awards, making Swift the first female artist in music history to win the industry’s top prize three times. Music critics widely regard the atmospheric record as a definitive turning point in Swift’s lengthy career, brilliantly showcasing her evolution from an autobiographical pop star to a masterful, imaginative storyteller capable of weaving complex, character-driven narratives.
The six-year milestone coincides with Swift’s ongoing global dominance. As her monumental Eras Tour continues to shatter box office records worldwide, the Folklore “era” remains a central and highly anticipated segment of her three-hour live shows. During the tour, Swift famously performs tracks from the album on a moss-covered cabin set, visually recreating the rustic cottagecore aesthetic that defined the celebrated release.
Swift’s official management team, Taylor Nation, joined the vibrant online celebration by posting nostalgic tributes and behind-the-scenes glimpses from the album’s minimalist, self-styled photoshoot. As fans continue to spin their vinyl records and stream the haunting melodies of Folklore, the six-year anniversary serves as a powerful reminder of how a quiet, quarantine-born project fundamentally reshaped the trajectory of one of the biggest careers in modern history, firmly cementing Taylor Swift’s enduring legacy as a generational songwriter.

15.91% spike exposes federal spending challenge

Controlling the rise in federal government administrative expenses has become a major challenge. Despite repeated claims of reducing expenditure and implementing austerity measures, the cost of running federal government affairs has increased by 15.91 per cent. The rise has raised concerns over the government’s efforts to control its administrative spending. The increase comes despite measures announced by the government to reduce unnecessary expenditure and promote financial discipline. According to the available details, spending on running government affairs has exceeded both the official target and the revised estimates. This means that actual administrative expenditure has remained higher than the levels projected by the government. The increase in spending also highlights the difficulties faced by the federal government in keeping its administrative costs under control. The government has been under pressure to reduce non-development expenditure and improve the efficiency of public spending. Authorities have introduced various austerity measures in an attempt to limit government expenditure. These measures were aimed at reducing unnecessary costs and ensuring better management of public resources. However, the latest increase indicates that controlling administrative spending remains a significant challenge. The higher-than-target expenditure could also put additional pressure on the government’s overall fiscal position. The development comes at a time when the federal government is seeking to maintain fiscal discipline and reduce unnecessary spending. Higher administrative costs could make it more difficult to achieve these objectives. The government is expected to face continued pressure to review its spending patterns and identify areas where expenditure can be reduced

US appeals Court again blocks Trump’s $100,0…

The Trump administration has suffered another legal setback after a US federal appeals court refused to reinstate a controversial $100,000 fee for H-1B visas, dealing a fresh blow to the administration’s immigration policy. A three-judge panel of the First US Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston ruled that the administration had failed to demonstrate a strong likelihood of success in its appeal or prove that it had acted within its legal authority when imposing the massive fee increase. The decision comes in a lawsuit filed by attorneys general from 20 Democratic-led states, who challenged the legality of the policy soon after it was introduced. The appeals court’s ruling leaves in place an earlier decision issued on June 8, when a lower court declared the $100,000 H-1B visa fee unlawful. That court concluded that Congress had never granted the executive branch the authority to impose a charge of that magnitude, describing it as a tax that exceeded the administration’s legal powers. President Donald Trump introduced the fee increase through an executive order issued last year, arguing that the H-1B visa program had been widely used by companies to replace American workers with lower-paid foreign professionals. The administration maintained that the significantly higher fee would discourage misuse of the program and encourage employers to prioritize hiring US workers. Critics, however, argued that the measure would severely disrupt industries that rely on highly skilled international talent, particularly the technology, healthcare and engineering sectors. Under current immigration rules, the United States issues 65,000 H-1B visas annually, along with an additional 20,000 visas for applicants holding advanced academic degrees from US institutions. The visas are generally granted for periods ranging from three to six years. Before Trump’s proposed increase, employers typically paid between $2,000 and $5,000 in government filing fees for an H-1B visa, depending on the size of the company and other applicable charges. The proposed $100,000 fee would not have applied to foreign nationals already in the United States on student visas who later transitioned to H-1B status. The latest court ruling represents another significant legal obstacle for the Trump administration’s immigration agenda and ensures that the dramatic fee increase will remain suspended while the broader legal battle continues.

    Quiet birthday for Princess Beatrice

Princess Beatrice marked her 38th birthday on Saturday as attention remained focused on her family following the recent arrival of her younger sister Princess Eugenie’s third child. The birthday celebrations reportedly came at a quieter moment for Beatrice, with reports suggesting that her mother, Sarah Ferguson, had travelled to Portugal to be with Eugenie and support her after the birth of her baby. As a result, Beatrice was expected to keep her own celebrations relatively low-key compared with last year. Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams suggested that there was unlikely to be any major change in the way Beatrice approached her birthday this year. Speaking to the publication, he described the circumstances surrounding the family as particularly delicate and said that Beatrice appeared to be maintaining a low public profile. Fitzwilliams highlighted the difficult situation facing both Beatrice and Eugenie, pointing to the wider controversy surrounding their parents. He described the current period as “a very sensitive time” for the sisters, particularly because their parents, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson, remain subjects of considerable public scrutiny. The royal commentator also noted that Beatrice and Eugenie occupy a somewhat unusual position within the Royal Family. Unlike senior working members of the monarchy, the sisters do not undertake official royal duties on a regular basis. This, he suggested, makes it important for them to handle public appearances and family events with particular caution. Despite the subdued circumstances surrounding Beatrice’s birthday, members of the extended royal circle have continued to show their support for Eugenie following the birth of her third child. Beatrice’s husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, was among the many people who reacted to Eugenie’s announcement on Instagram. His interaction with the post highlighted the close family connection between the sisters and their respective families at a significant moment for Eugenie. James Middleton, the brother of Catherine, Princess of Wales, also showed his support by liking Eugenie’s Instagram post, which featured a photograph of her newborn baby. His reaction was another indication of the warm ties that exist between different branches of the wider royal family. The arrival of Eugenie’s third child has therefore brought renewed attention to the family, even as Beatrice reaches another personal milestone. Rather than placing herself at the centre of public celebrations, however, Beatrice appears to be approaching her birthday with restraint. The circumstances surrounding her family have made this a particularly complicated period for both sisters. With Eugenie adjusting to life with a new baby and Sarah Ferguson reportedly offering support in Portugal, Beatrice’s quieter birthday may reflect the family’s desire to keep private matters away from unnecessary public attention. For Beatrice, turning 38 therefore comes at a time of significant family developments. While the occasion would ordinarily attract attention, the focus this year has largely remained on Eugenie and her newborn, allowing Beatrice to mark her birthday in a more understated manner.
