Thai Forensic Institute Points to Potential Heart Failure in Vlogger Hlun Solo’s Death

BANGKOK, Thailand – The second autopsy of popular Thai travel vlogger Bowornthat Pengsuk, widely known online as Hlun Solo, suggests heart failure as a potential cause of death, though forensic experts have not ruled out poisoning due to severe limitations caused by the initial examination in Georgia. The Central Institute of Forensic Science conducted the domestic examination on Thursday morning, shortly after the 27-year-old content creator’s remains were repatriated to Thailand.

Forensic physicians noted that while a computed tomography scan and physical examination revealed no signs of physical assault, broken bones, or fatal violence, a slight cardiac abnormality was detected that could have triggered heart failure. Determining the precise cause of death, however, is complicated by the prior autopsy performed overseas. Georgian authorities had removed the coronary arteries for their own examination and extracted all available blood samples. Furthermore, the remains were treated with formalin prior to repatriation, a chemical preservation process that can significantly interfere with secondary toxicology screenings and obscure the presence of certain substances.

To circumvent the lack of available blood, the Thai institute has formally requested the original toxicology results, vital organ findings, and detailed conditions of the death scene from Georgian authorities. Domestically, investigators have collected tissue samples from the digestive tract to test for poisonous substances and are conducting an in-depth hair analysis to screen for narcotics, with comprehensive results expected in the coming weeks. Medical examiners are also performing genetic testing to investigate whether the vlogger suffered from Sudden Unexplained Nocturnal Death Syndrome, a hereditary condition known to trigger unexpected fatal cardiac events during sleep.

The ongoing forensic investigation follows a deeply distressing period for the vlogger’s family, who lost contact with him shortly after his arrival in the Caucasus nation on July 13 to film solo budget-travel content. Although his body was discovered in a Tbilisi hotel room on July 14, local police did not officially confirm his passing until July 29, following a widespread public appeal by his desperate relatives. In the wake of the domestic autopsy, the family has reportedly expressed satisfaction with the thoroughness of the Thai examination, even as they await the final, consolidated forensic conclusions from both nations.

    Naqvi defends officials over viral carriage video

    Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has defended the Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman and Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) after a video of the two officials arriving at an Independence Day event in a horse-drawn carriage triggered criticism on social media. CDA Chairman retired Lt Sohail Ashraf and Islamabad IGP Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi were seen arriving at the parade in the carriage. The video showed event organisers asking the audience to applaud as the officials arrived, but little response could be heard from the crowd. The footage quickly spread online, with several social media users describing the scene as outdated and comparing it with practices associated with the colonial era. Naqvi later issued a clarification, saying the officials should not be blamed for using the carriage. According to the interior minister, the chief guest and he were delayed because of a meeting between the president and prime minister. He said people had been waiting at the venue since 5pm. When it became clear that the senior officials would arrive late, instructions were given to start the programme so that citizens would not have to wait any longer. Naqvi explained that the horse carriage had originally been arranged for the chief guest. However, due to the delay, it was used by the CDA chairman and Islamabad police chief to proceed with the programme. The minister also said both officers had initially been reluctant to begin the event in the absence of the chief guest and himself. He maintained that they proceeded only after receiving specific instructions. Despite the explanation, criticism continued online. Former federal minister Shireen Mazari shared the video and questioned the decision, while digital rights activist Usama Khilji criticised what he described as behaviour inappropriate for senior government officials. Several journalists and public figures also reacted strongly to the footage. Journalist Farzana Ali questioned the appropriateness of such a display at a time when ordinary citizens are facing economic difficulties. Journalist Zarrar Khuhro described the scene as embarrassing, while researcher Ammar Rashid criticised what he viewed as the growing distance between government officials and the public. Former Pemra chairman Absar Alam also condemned the incident, calling it an example of an outdated bureaucratic mindset.     NAB clarifies Rs500 million jurisdiction threshold

    ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has internally clarified that inflation-based adjustments to the value of liabilities cannot be used retrospectively to bring older, lower-value corruption cases under its jurisdiction. The clarification follows the enforcement of the National Accountability (Amendment) Act 2026 on March 5. NAB has issued internal guidance for prosecutors and investigators to ensure a uniform legal position on the revised Rs500 million threshold. Under the amended law, an offence falls within NAB’s jurisdiction when it involves corruption or misconduct involving at least Rs500 million. The law also links the financial threshold to annual inflation indicators issued by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, with the adjustment taking effect from July 1, 2026. However, NAB’s internal interpretation distinguishes between the statutory jurisdictional threshold and the inflation-adjusted value of liabilities. The Rs500 million figure remains the basic test for determining jurisdiction. Inflation adjustment is applied only after the actual liability involved in a case has been finally determined. The guidance identifies three situations based on when the alleged offence occurred. For offences committed before July 2022, the original amount involved will be assessed according to the year in which the offence took place. No inflation adjustment will be applied retrospectively. If the final liability is Rs500 million or more, NAB will retain jurisdiction. If it is below Rs500 million, the case will fall outside NAB’s jurisdiction and may be transferred to the ordinary courts. For offences committed after July 2022, the Rs500 million threshold will initially determine NAB’s jurisdiction. Once an inquiry or investigation establishes the final amount involved, the relevant inflation index for the year in which the case reaches its final stage will be applied if the original liability is at least Rs500 million. The final reference will therefore contain both the original liability and its inflation-adjusted value. If the original liability is below Rs500 million, no inflation adjustment will be made and NAB’s jurisdiction will cease. The third category concerns continuing offences that began before July 2022 but continued after that date. Such cases will be treated in the same manner as offences committed after July 2022. The guidance further states that once the original liability has been finally established and the inflation-adjusted amount has been calculated, the resulting figure will be considered final. It will not be repeatedly revised on the basis of inflation increases in subsequent years. According to the internal legal position, linking the financial threshold to inflation was intended to keep the threshold realistic and relevant over time and prevent inflation from reducing its practical value. NAB has also clarified that the amendment was not intended to retrospectively expand the bureau’s jurisdiction or disadvantage accused persons. The 2026 amendments made another significant change by expanding provisions concerning the transfer of cases falling outside NAB’s jurisdiction. The relevant provision now extends to pending appeals as well, whereas the earlier framework was primarily limited to inquiries, investigations and trials.
