Google confirms dedicated Googlebook launch event — Explained

I wrote at the beginning of the week that I felt it was likely Google would hold a dedicated event to launch its new Googlebook category of laptops.

This is now confirmed as the firm has sent out invites to an event in New York on 15 September. That’s the same city as the Pixel 11 Made by Google launch last week and will be an in-person media event, according to Chrome Unboxed.

Instead of the devices getting lost in a sea of new devices at IFA 2026 in Berlin, which takes place from 4 September, Google will give Googlebooks the spotlight they deserve.

We assume every single first-wave Googlebook will be unveiled at the event. These will come from the likes of Dell, Acer, Asus, HP and Lenovo as Google isn’t making its own.

Update: I’ve been informed that this is a behind-closed-doors media preview, so nothing will be publicly announced on 15 September.

The agenda for the Googlebook launch event will include a keynote speech by a senior Google leader. The event will properly announce the firm’s new laptop operating system, which is a hybrid of Chrome OS and Android.

Attendees will also be able to try out the new devices at OEM demo stations. There should be eight devices, mostly traditional clamshell laptops and one tablet and come with Gemini at the core along with features such as a Glowbar on the lid.

We hope for a lot more at the event, such as prices and release dates for the range of Googlebooks. Our sister publication, PCWorld, will be there in person, so stay tuned.
