“WOW!! This is my old car that I owned for 26 years and restored during that time. If the buyer wants to know any of the history, I can provide info for the period that I owned it. @IanC – When I sold it, I did include the Jaguar Heritage Certificate with it. Since I got it so long ago, it looks much different than the ones you get today. Hopefully, it’s still with the car. The colors are original – Opalescent Silver Blue with dark blue interior and top. I’ll be watching this one!”

“What a cherry looking little car! 1963 remains my favorite year for the Type 1 1200 Sedan and seeing one like this, in stock spec after years of well-loved ownership just makes me smile! Everyone has a VW Story and this VW has a great story all on it’s own.

I’m Bob Gunthorp. I have a 1959 190b Binz station wagon Binz body number 1540. It is registered as a 1963. I purchased it in 1984. They are a fun car to drive and they attract attention everywhere that you take them. In 2012 I showed the wagon at the Mercedes-Benz Club National StarFest event in Phoenix AZ. The wagon is a “driver” car and not 100 point restoration. To both my surprise and amazement the wagon received the judge’s choice award.

“I had one of these ‘beasts’ back in the 1970s, nowhere as nice as this Mercedes. I terrorized northern Virginia & the D.C. area for several years…..it sounded like a washing-machine full of marbles & smoked like I was spraying for locusts! But that Benz ran for ever, even on kerosene!
I wound up trading it for a Nikon motor-drive camera. My Mercedes wound up as ‘yard-art’ in Annapolis, Maryland…..but that diesel engine ran for years operating hoist equipment on a ‘waterman’s’…”

“Stunning car! The 5 speed transaxle fitted to Boras was also used in other cars- the deTomaso Mangusta and Pantera, Ford GT40s, BMW M1s.. perhaps others I’m not aware of. A robust unit of considerable versatility, it is still in production in the USA by RBT Inc. The ZF 5DS-25 (its actual name) has been through several revisions, including adding a sixth speed, I think. Its only vice is that it’s hard to obtain and when you can, it costs STACKS of money.”

“This was my Dad’s car. I learned to drive a stick in this car and took my drivers test for my license. He and I worked on it together and we would race through the mountains. “In 1979 a friend of mine’s brother bought a new first year RX-7. I had the opportunity to drive it. My car was a 1200 cc Corolla. By comparison the RX-7 seemed so fast and handled like it was on rails. In retrospect they only had about 100 hp, but I thought I was in a fire breathing racecar. Fun times!”

To be honest, in all my years I’ve never known anyone to have an outboard motor on display in their home. Motorcycles? Sure. Bikes? Of course. Even Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Shelbys, oh my. Dead center of the living room on most occasions. But an outboard motor? Whoa. And one this cool? Double Whoa.

“I’m having a stroll down memory lane this morning. My mom owned this 914 for about 33 years. She loved this car and enjoyed thousands of miles behind the wheel. She ran it a few times in the late 70’s and early 80’s in Corvette/Porsche rallies. I cruised the Puyallup loop in it back in high school. Got beat in a drag race against at Mustang. I can share some vintage photos of the car if the new buyer would like them. GLWTA I will be watching fondly. By the way it was originally bronze.”

“I owned an ‘85 nearly identical to this. I drove it the way Carroll Shelby intended. I quickly installed the Mopar Performance logic module and after getting the timing dialed in and an AutoMeter boost gauge installed, I was even more ready to “Go Like Hell.” So, one Friday evening in the spring, I was laying down rubber in first and second gear at each stop.
It must have took a while for the officer to catch up from following the squealing Euro T/A’s, as I don’t believe he ever saw…”

“Automatics are great – First, generally driven less spiritedly over their lifetime. Second, the automatic is actually very good. My auto on back roads, 2nd gear could go from about 25 mph to 70 mph. Often with a group of other 02s, I would be pushing the car in front of me that was modified. Third, the auto works while you find that 5 speed that is wider than a 4 speed and what else is wider? The tunnel in an automatic. No hammer needed for installation.
