“Back In 1971 fresh out of high school and still 17 worked with my uncle at a local auto repair garage. My job lowest of lowest was the under the car stuff. In came one of these with a transmission leak. My job clean of all the dirt and grime from years of driving so the mechanics could find the leak. Upon getting the OK was told to go clean up and put on a clean set of coveralls. Upon returning was given the keys and told to drive to a nearby by town and back. My jaw dropped to the ground. 17…”

“Anecdotally, I was told by the head of Porsche Museum (at the time) Dieter Labdsburger, that they took the Abarth to the wind tunnel and a standard 356, and found out that the Abarth, that they paid a lot of money for for further development in aerodynamics, was less aerodynamic than the stock version! I think this example is simply beautiful, tastefully done, and without the aerodynamic drag of the car it was trying to emulate…. but retaining the lovely engine lid. I will be watching….…”

“When I was a new pilot in a Navy Fighter Squadron, one of my favorite “older” Squadron mates used to have get togethers at his house. He had a bar in his kitchen /living room and at the end was his lucky ejection seat that he had used when he was an F-8 pilot. He had the seat built in and only HE was allowed to ever sit in that “lucky” seat! Good memories.”

“I’ve owned two of these. My first was a brand new fawn beige 283 4bbl that I drove 60,000 miles in three years. I had the dealer add GM seat belts. It was completely trouble free. Mine originally came with the spare tire tucked under the top well. About a year into it Chevrolet had a recall to move it to the right rear quarter panel are as this car shows. People were cutting the rear window and stealing the spare tires. I still have the original window sticker. A beautiful car.”

This one won’t be restored nor turned for profit, but it will be driven in the desert southwest and turn over 100,000 miles within a year or so. I drive ’em, I don’t show them or brag about them. I love pic 149 because it tells a story of what likely happened to most radio delete Camaros in the early 80s when these cars were cheap enough to be purchased by teenagers who would not be caught dead in a car with no tunes. I can see the kid with his dad’s hacksaw, tin snips and pliers lying on his back in that trunk going to town. A couple hours later, with his brand new Jensen Tri-Axials installed, he’s cruising around town with tunes blaring. Radio delete option be damned!!”

“@volvoracer9 – That is an excellent question. The guy who created this went to great lengths to make it accurate. As far as I have found, everything is correct except the brakes/wheels/hubs. A true MC850 will have 4 bolt wheels and hubs with a different front brake caliper. I put on adjustable Spax shocks but the original Koni shocks come with it. Engine and head are correct for MC850 as is the entire interior including the rear seat which is basically cushions on top of a storage bin. Club…”
