“A bunch of years ago (well, decades ago), I bought a well-used but complete and drivable ’66 912 from a garage sale in Reseda, CA for the princely sum of $1000. I drove it the few blocks to my home. Going through the paperwork, I found the title, with Axl Rose’s name on it. Guns ‘n Roses’ Axl Rose.
So I washed it a bit, advertised it in The Recycler and flipped it for $2000. Felt like a genius.
How times have changed…”

“@dje7 Growing up I remember always seeing Mustangs in my neighborhood. My family had 3, my Dad’s, my Brother bought the red convertible in the pictures from the neighbor when he got out of the army and I had a red 69 Fastback in my early 20’s. The Maverick in the pictures my Dad bought new for my Mom and if memory serves, he paid $1850. Those were simpler times. Galvanized steel garbage cans, TV antenna’s on roofs and a Mustang in a lot of the driveways.”

“Bought a 1987 XJS new, Drove it from 1987 to 2009 almost everyday. Sold it with 320K miles. Changed oil every 2000 miles Castrol 20/50. Rust began to become an issue, back window and windshield developed leaks. I miss the car, it cruised at 110mph like nothing. Climbed hills like they weren’t there. Handling at high speeds was unbelievable. Between the V12 and the suspension a true great car to drive.”

“On my dog walks about once every two weeks, only on sunny days, a 442 that looks to be identical to this car drives by me. I’ve yet to be able to check out the car up close. The sound of that car is amazing. The look of that car is amazing. snap my neck following it as it goes by. Probably one of the best looking cars in my town, and there are plenty of nice cars. These cars wear yellow really well. The tasteful black stripe accents are icing on the cake. Necking snappingly beautiful. Like…”

I’m Bob Gunthorp. I have a 1959 190b Binz station wagon Binz body number 1540. It is registered as a 1963. I purchased it in 1984. They are a fun car to drive and they attract attention everywhere that you take them. In 2012 I showed the wagon at the Mercedes-Benz Club National StarFest event in Phoenix AZ. The wagon is a “driver” car and not 100 point restoration. To both my surprise and amazement the wagon received the judge’s choice award.

“I had one of these ‘beasts’ back in the 1970s, nowhere as nice as this Mercedes. I terrorized northern Virginia & the D.C. area for several years…..it sounded like a washing-machine full of marbles & smoked like I was spraying for locusts! But that Benz ran for ever, even on kerosene!
I wound up trading it for a Nikon motor-drive camera. My Mercedes wound up as ‘yard-art’ in Annapolis, Maryland…..but that diesel engine ran for years operating hoist equipment on a ‘waterman’s’…”

“Stunning car! The 5 speed transaxle fitted to Boras was also used in other cars- the deTomaso Mangusta and Pantera, Ford GT40s, BMW M1s.. perhaps others I’m not aware of. A robust unit of considerable versatility, it is still in production in the USA by RBT Inc. The ZF 5DS-25 (its actual name) has been through several revisions, including adding a sixth speed, I think. Its only vice is that it’s hard to obtain and when you can, it costs STACKS of money.”
