“Lauterbach hulls are indeed special as is the family. Thanks for the heads up about the book and reunion. If there was a way to get to the event it sure would be fun.
Back in the 1970’s on Seattles Green Lake were some special times. We would sit on the beach with a battery operated B&W 2 inch TV screen watching Indy and at the same time enjoy the boat races. Some hard core racing with Larry Lauterbach and then Tom D’Eath piloting Lauterbach hulls against John Leach’s Buccaneer.…”

“I’ve seen these cars in person when they were new at Straman’s over next to the Orange County Airport. The workmanship is superb. No one believes me when I say that there was a convertible CRX.
More importantly than that, no one believes there was EVER a teddy bear wheel made for any car – and I’ve told stories about them on a Volkswagen Cabriolet I once had. I have only ever seen ONE at a tire dealer. Never a complete set.

“My best friend has his dad’s 240Z in this color combo. His dad died when he was young and he’s dreamt of getting it out of the garage, rust repaired, and running since. Sadly I’m not sure that day will ever come. This one… this is just fantastic. Wish he could have one go in his dad’s car… one day!

“The German language 1989 color info brochure from Porsche lists lachsilbermetallic as color code Z9. I only see three other US market ’89s in this color, would argue that it’s more than 3 paint cans rare, per Rennbow.”

“It always amazed/surprised me that if you bought a Cadillac of that era, the convertible top from the inside exposed the bare metal frame and had no headliner but the modest VW came standard with a substantial padded cloth inner liner that concealed the frame structure while reducing road noise and increasing cabin warmth and comfort.”

“On my dog walks about once every two weeks, only on sunny days, a 442 that looks to be identical to this car drives by me. I’ve yet to be able to check out the car up close. “The original owner of this car was a friend of mine and I can vouch that this car is everything it is claimed to be. John was a lifetime “collector” and over the years he bought a number of brand new vehicles, drove them home from the dealer, and never drove them again. For him, it was all about “having”. When he was a youngster in the 70’s and 80’s, he was well known in Studebaker circles for his cross-country road trips in his fleet Studebaker Diesel trucks.
