BaT Auction Success Story: Silver Belles You Should Know
BaT member cksretrogarage won two low-mileage, heavyweight BMWs—an E30 M3 offered by TheSandman in a September 2025 BaT auction and a Z8 sold by tony19 in November 2025. He recently wrote in with an update on both:
Some cars leave an impression on you the moment you see them, and these two BMWs did exactly that in very different ways.
Not only did the 1988 E30 M3 immediately stand out for its exceptionally low mileage—18k—but also for its specification and condition. Finished in Salmon Silver over Cardinal Red Bison leather, it was unlike any E30 M3 I have encountered before. Personally, I had never seen an E30 M3 with a burgundy interior, and the color combination was absolutely stunning.
From the first moment I saw the car, I knew I wanted to buy it. The biggest deciding factor was that the car had never been modified or updated in any way, and it remained completely original. Sitting inside felt like stepping into a car that just left the factory. The interior showed virtually no wear, the materials felt fresh, and everything reflected careful preservation rather than restoration.
What impressed me just as much was how the car drove. Despite being nearly 40 years old, it felt tight, balanced, and precise, more like a modern car than a classic. I knew that I was purchasing one of the most expensive E30 M3s sold recently, but after seeing and driving the car, it was immediately clear that it was worth it. I am genuinely very happy to own such a special example.
The 2001 Z8 represented something different, yet equally meaningful. To me, the Z8 was born a classic and is one of the most special models in BMW’s history. Finished in silver over black, it has a timeless and elegant presence that feels just as relevant today as it did when new.
Finding this example with only 8,000 miles on the clock made the decision easy. Owning a Z8 had long been a personal goal, and I did not want to miss the opportunity to acquire such a low-mileage and well-preserved car. The Z8 was complete with all of its original books and accessories, but what truly elevated the story was an unexpected detail: the previous owner sent me a framed photograph of Pierce Brosnan standing in front of a silver BMW Z8, personally signed by him. That connection added a unique and meaningful layer to an already iconic car.
The auction featured an excellent video that captured the Z8 beautifully, and from the start, I was fully committed to winning it. For me, the Z8 was more than a collectible. It represented BMW at its most confident and expressive, blending classic design with modern engineering. Owning this car feels like fulfilling a long-held dream.
