    “I’ve always thought the ’69 Camaro is one of the most perfectly styled cars of the era, particularly as an RS Z/28. @BlackMountainMotorworks did the right thing by including a number of side profile photos. (Surprising how many sellers don’t!) The color on this one is fantastic, worthy of a poster.
    Being an early Trans Am Series fan I was thrilled to get close to the Penske/Donahue #6 racer at an 80’s Walter Mitty. I have a packet of photos I keep aside so I can easily remind myself.…”

    “I remember this model. It signaled to many that Hyundai was becoming a serious car company, at a time when some early Excels were still running around leaving clouds of blue oil smoke behind them. The Tiburon could have had Honda badges and nobody might have been the wiser.

We’re handing the prize to BaT member @angushopper, who submitted the most-liked comment this week for the Carroll Shelby $100 Challenge:

    “The Carroll Shelby $100 Challenge:
    To demonstrate the raw power of his 427 Cobra, Shelby would tape a $100 bill to the dashboard and if a passenger could reach out and grab it while he launched the car under full acceleration the passenger could keep the money.
    Allegedly no one was ever able to grab the bill.
    I have no idea of the veracity of this story but have heard it most of my life.”

    Our compatriots over at Car and Driver tested a 427 Cobra in their November 1965 issue and noted that “[it] does accelerate and decelerate at unbelievable rates, as the figures should imply.” We’ll leave it at that. Either way, it’s a great piece of automotive lore.

    “I spent 2 years restoring this car with the great guys at Universally Modified Performance. Also, a big shout at Extraordinaries Custom paint. They both did a great job. As a partner at Andretti Global, I had access to the greatest guys who know so much about this car. The majority of the parts on this car are original parts from michaels actual races in 1991. I worked with both Michael and Mario to make sure everything was as accurate as possible. It’s truly a big part of IndCar history.”

    “On Thanksgiving eve of 1969 my father drove home a brand new 1970 SX. Rally red, white vinyl top, white bucket seats, sport steering wheel and side mirrors, etc. I was 17 at the time and still have it! Without my father’s knowledge, I immediately swapped the 2 barrel carb for the quadrant which really changed the performance. The drive train is bullet proof. Almost 57 years later and the engine still cranks right up and pulls like a horse! Our domestic cars from 65-71 were fabulous!”

    BaT member Sean1950 won this 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560SEL from mjtsub in a January 2026 BaT auction, and recently completed a nearly 3,000-mile journey back home.
    He writes:
    My parents had some pretty special cars during the 1980s. First, they owned a ’70s E21 3-Series; that was traded in on a 1987 Porsche 944. In 1983, my mom bought a new W126 Mercedes-Benz—a 300SD in Orient Red over Palamino. Today, my brother and I share a love for cars. He has nine, including a Cadillac CTS-V manual wagon, and at this moment, I own five Benz products. There was clearly a sense of nostalgia in my family when my brother bought a 944, along with my three W126s, just like our parents did.

    “I worked on the development of these back at the start of my career as an engineer with Isuzu in Cerritos, CA. The prototype from Japan was purple and RHD which got lots of stares and thumbs up Super fun cars to drive. Drove it to Lake Tahoe through many fun roads. Handled pretty well for a SUV.”
