• What to Know About yesterday’s comments of note

A few of the comments that stood out to us yesterday:

“They say Fort Stockton remembers things the way a screen door remembers wind. Not perfectly, not completely, but enough to make you swear something passed through.
The story of the Lincoln started that way.
It was the summer of 1937 when the couple arrived at the Cattle Baron Hotel, slipping into town like they had taken a wrong turn somewhere east of Dallas and decided not to correct it. The car came first, of course. Folks always remember the car before they remember the people.

CaptainMyCaptain commented on Jim Farley’s 1937 Lincoln Model K Coupe by LeBaron

“My first awesome car! Bought slightly used in 1993, it was the dark grey color, almost black, and I put a 1″ drop on it with 16″ Momo 5 spoke wheels. Had a killer sound system in it and absolutely loved that car. Had it stolen in Seattle and recovered a few weeks later pretty much stripped out. Just didn’t feel the same anymore so sold it for what I could and moved on to a Toyota truck. Have owned damn near every Honda since then — Odyssey, Ridgeline, Accord and 2 generations of Civic…”

“Beautiful car. I started at Cadillac in 1957 and the finished Broughams were moved to the executive garage for final inspection and cleanup. I had a small part of that process.
Later in the early 1960s when I worked in the Cadillac parts warehouse on Riopelle and we were surprised by the volume of spring replacement spring kits we were selling for this car. I recall we sold more replacement kits than the number of Broughams built. In many cases Cadillac replaced the air bags with springs…”

  • BaT Auction Success Story: After the Flames, A Fresh White 308 GTB — Explained

Following an unfortunate fire with his previous Ferrari, allthecars is back in another 308 GTB courtesy of BaT. He won his new example from Murphy258 in a September 2025 BaT auction, and wrote in to tell us about it:
It was November 2024. I was driving on Mulholland Highway through Malibu on a lovely, sunny Sunday morning when my black 1977 Ferrari 308 GTB caught fire. After six years of ownership, numerous drives to Monterey for Car Week, and roughly 40,000 miles, my first Ferrari was reduced to charcoal.

  • Yesterday’s comments of note: A Practical Look

A few of the comments that stood out to us yesterday:

“in 1979 I was working at the old Hughes Aircraft facility in Culver City – right on the ocean where the Spruce Goose was built. We were building the F18 radar there and one of the most experienced radar engineers was Lee Spalding, USC trained, grew up in Gardena and lived in PalosVerdes, He had one of these. It was his daily driver and it had a great deal of miles on it – all original. During the winter he was having trouble with it running – he did all of the work – and we discussed the…”

“I used to own this car in the late 80’s early 90’s. the first owner Dave McKenna told me that Chrysler engineers told him that Chrysler used the thinnest gauge metal to stamp out the entire bodies of the Maxwedge cars making them about 400LBS lighter than the production model Savoys. We wighed this car at the race track and it weighed 3250Lbs a little more than our 70 340 Duster. Most people were unaware of this slight of hand. Chevy, Ford and Pontiac weighed 3800-4100Lbs in 62 giving the…”

In fact, there were oh-so-many vehicles that we couldn’t include—you know there is some crazy stuff on the site when a mobile recording studio and two cars with Jim Farley ownership history get left on the cutting room floor. Not to worry, you can still find those and more among the ~1,100 cars currently on our live auctions page.

A few of the comments that stood out to us yesterday:

“An AMC Hornet on a rotisserie…now that’s something you don’t often see. I like it. The dedication taken to not only restore, but improve upon this perpetual underdog is quite admirable. Bravo! Outstanding results. This noteworthy malaise should get nothing but praise.

“Could be a straightforward project for Marcos lovers who want to experience ownership. Perhaps a marque expert could chime in on whether the steel frame is of similar configuration to the original plywood ones and where the potential trouble spots might be before asking for more info from the seller. Lewes is a beach town if it originated there then factor in corrosion potential, and one of the road wheels shows signs of same. B18’s are usually bulletproof and agriculturally simple. Send the…”

Mr. Cline was easy to work with. As soon as the auction finished, I went to the bank, requested a cashier’s check, and flew to Augusta, Georgia. That same day, we loaded the Porsche into an auto transport, which delivered it the next day at my shop in Miami.
