    “Even as a “Project” this Hispano-Suiza exudes and elegance few cars can match.
    I suppose it may be because of my affinity for Packards, but a V-12 (with the exception of that dreadful thing used in the Lincoln Zephyr) always grabs my attention. I hope we will get to see this wonderful car completed.

    “My first car was a 73 4 door custom. White with black vinyl roof and bondo fenders my Dad did with chicken wire. Slant 6 with an FM converter added that also picked up TV stations. Also had a 70 340 Swinger in HEMI orange for a few years. I have a soft spot for 70’s Darts. GLWTA!”

    “In 1967, my dad informed me that he had purchased, with my savings, 1960 Falcon with 60K miles for $325.00.
    While it would not have been my choice, I was excited to enter the world of independence from walking, bicycling and public transportation.
    The 144 ci engine didn’t last long with my heavy foot and the constant diet of re-refined oil I fed it from our local Site gas station.
    I found a 260 at the junk yard and that was a great improvement.

    We’re just off of two weeks with two huge events, and there are even more coming up. We can imagine that you, like us, might need to spend some time out of the sun, and to help you reduce your exposure to harmful UV rays, we have concocted this list of the most interesting and unique cars on BaT to keep you inside and in front of your computer, where it’s safe. Today we have a slew of prewar beauties, a golf cart from another galaxy, a ’50s fiberglass father-and-son duo, and our first ever sailboat, to mention just a few of the vehicular curiosities below.

    “The gap between the order date and the serialized date on the Marti report reminds me that Ford workers went on strike in the fall of 1976.
    I had factory ordered a new Econoline 150 around the same time as this Bronco and I took delivery in January of 1977. My van was the same Midnight Metallic Blue as this Bronco. A Great color”

  • Understanding baT Auction Success Story: 306k-Mile Mercedes 190E 2.3-16 vs. Robin’s Run, Part I

    Our latest Success Story comes to us from BaT member Escondidoron, who won this 306k-Mile 1986 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16 from c137 in an August 2025 BaT auction and set out for a grueling shakedown with the sixth running of Robin’s Run, a rally celebrating the life of his late son.
    Escondidoron writes:
    Humanity tends to ask certain questions at pivotal moments: “Is this love?” “Do these jeans make my butt look big?” And most dangerously, “What could go wrong?” Everything. In fact, that last question is not a question—it’s a lifestyle choice. It’s the phrase you utter right before the universe quietly cracks its knuckles and draws back its fist. I muttered those words the moment my meticulously planned rally car—a 1963 Porsche 356 Super 90 Outlaw—decided, four days before departure, that its custom six-volt starter would rather retire than participate. There was no replacement, no workaround, and no mercy. Yet, I still had to go.
