“I am just imagining the amount of time in sourcing all of the proper items from clamps and hardware hoses plating to recreating spot welds. The sheer amount of time would be daunting. @groceg summed up very well in his post.
I for one I am glad bring a trailer posts are archived and available for reference.
No need to say good luck with the auction. More of a need to congratulate the future caretaker, complement the work done, and the seller.”

“My first car was a 1979 5 door GLE in this same color combo… it was 1987 in Syracuse NY, so there was already rust starting to consume the rear end of that beauty. I drove the hell out of that car lugging amps and guitars to gigs in high school. By the time I graduated in 1989 the rust won and I sold it to a guy who raced SAABs on a frozen lake nearby… her engine and those glorious front red-ish bucket seats went on to live their best life racing in ice rally’s! Her “GLE” badge still…”

“One of the things I really like about this is that, at its heart, it’s just so simple. Not like the Italian limited production barchetta cars where everything is unobtainable or very expensive. A T Series MG set up is the personification of of basic spark, fuel, air motoring. Like the upkeep on TD. That should bring it more into the range of folks who lust after the style but have been afraid of the reality of finding mechanical spares. Opportunity rarely knocks as loud as this one, IMHO!”

“I see something like this and am reminded of the “ad specials” that were ordered for the newspaper ad wars for the lowest price on a given model to create showroom traffic. This no option car would’ve been a typical ad special in a metro dealership. I’m reminded of a tan (band aid color) new 76 Granada at the Ford dealership I worked at. Brand new advertised for $3999.00. A true “5 tires 2 keys and a heater” car. No power steering, radio delete, vinyl bench seat 3 speed column shift…”

“The Amazon … Volvo ran ads on TV showing this model driving down a dirt road at about 20 mph. The driver jams the transmission in REVERSE and floors the throttle – the cars rear wheels start spinning backwards and the car is sliding forward … yeah the 122s is tough.”

“A high school friend had one of these. It was light on its feet and plenty quick. Ahead of its time with an overhead cam engine, and so rare today. Jay Leno’s build of his Firebird Sprint adds some value to this one, in my opinion.”

“My first car was a 1963 Rambler that my uncle sold to me for $50. It ran forever — you can’t kill these cars! Although the vacuum powered windshield wipers would not move in cold weather, so in snow storms the passenger had to lean out of the window and manually swish the wipers so the driver could see!”

“Lovely car! Had a Crown 327/350 while in college in NJ in early 70’s; ran 12.22 at Raceway Park, much faster than most muscle cars. Had Greenbriar 3.89 gears. Yep, finally blew the rear end. Ran smallish rear tires to limit traction. would take a friend out for a drive w/o the back cover in – most not accustomed to red hot headers and the noise a solid lifter V-8 makes. LOL. 50+ years later now drive a R8 – sort of similar but with massaging leather seats!! GLWTA!!”

Nice modifications, and it appears that the seller has had a lot of fun while keeping it in fine running shape. Though lots of miles, I bet that the next owner can get years more use if they stay on top of issues as they arise.
A five speed, a 300Tdi engine, and a first series Disco….what’s not to like?”
