“As a kid in the Finger Lakes of NY there was a guy in my hometown that owned a Superbird just like this one. It was his daily and pretty rusty. One Sunday morning while on the way to church with my parents, the car was in front of us. As it crossed over a series of railroad tracks, the rust around the base of the wing uprights gave way and the whole assembly fell into the trunk.”

“Somewhat related, gearhead Nick Mason (Pink Floyd) took part in a documentary “La Carrera Panamericana” in the early 1990s, which is just awesome. Wonderful cinematography of the actual race, with Pink Floyd as the soundtrack.
I stumbled upon the VHS in a bargain bin in the mid-’90s, but it’s all over YouTube now.
