“What a wonderful surprise to see John’s Outlaw 356 here on BaT!
I met John at Amelia Island when he brought the car to the Concours Show.
He was spending time with my old pal, Jean Jennings (Jean Knows Cars) whom I had met years earlier at the Hilton Head Concours Show when we spent the day together with Jay Ward (Pixar)
What a great memory…
This example is obviously one of the best builds I have ever seen and my best to John and all the folks who made it possible.

“1st real job at the age of 15 in North Hollywood CA was pumping gas at the Texaco station. Sky Chief (the premium blend) was 29.9¢ per gallon, and I’d check your oil and tire pressure and clean your windshield, if you wanted. I still remember the guy in the ‘56 Chevy that let me struggle for a while trying to find the gas cap. He finally laughed and told me to try opening the driver’s side tail light. Good times.”

“Lovely car! Had a Crown 327/350 while in college in NJ in early 70’s; ran 12.22 at Raceway Park, much faster than most muscle cars. Had Greenbriar 3.89 gears. Yep, finally blew the rear end. Ran smallish rear tires to limit traction. would take a friend out for a drive w/o the back cover in – most not accustomed to red hot headers and the noise a solid lifter V-8 makes. LOL. 50+ years later now drive a R8 – sort of similar but with massaging leather seats!! GLWTA!!”

Just the right street car for getting the blood pumping, without needing to get crazy to do it. “@bbilly McQueen rode a “stolen” German military camp motorcycle which was a modified Triumph TR6 Trophy in The Great Escape. A period-correct BMW or Zundapp weren’t up to the physical task. McQueen did all of the riding except for the 60-ft jump over the barbed wire. Insurance restrictions limited that scene.”

“Exact car, down to the color, my Uncle had. My parents borrowed it in August, 1959 when we went to get our first Weimaraner from some people in Illinois. My first dog, remember the trip, I was 4. We had a DeSoto 2 door sedan (1952) at that time, unsuitable for transport of a very large pup!
Paint was dull on his wagon I recall. Downright chalky. Within the next year or so he traded it on a brand new Ford Taunus wagon. (Now there’s one you NEVER see.)”

“Kudos to the seller for all of the pics! For those of us who’ve been around BaT for awhile you may remember the BaT feature “Where They Rust”. This car before the resto would have been an excellent submission. I applaud owners who see a car in that shape and decide to dedicate the time and money to bring a car back to life. You have my respect.
This is a cool build that appears ready to be enjoyed today. It’s really nice but not so precious you’d be afraid to drive it. And the AC is…”

“This 599 is an earlier production as in the later production for 2007 the ceramic brakes became standard. Also, Ferrari jacked up the base price from $258k to $321k base price. Significantly increased the cost. These cars are appreciating fast. F-1 transmission is a very nice transmission in my opinion even though general public prefers the clutch version. Good luck.”

In 1987, at the age of 27, I quit my job and travelled to Europe for my 1st time for a 6-month adventure. After skiing a few areas in the Alps, I made my way north, as far as Bergen, Norway. Summer had arrived, and I wanted to have some beach fun.
The section on France in the Frommer’s Guide had many pages on the Mediterranean Coast, but few on the Atlantic.

“These cars are just great. I bought a 2024 manual on a whim last year and have zero regrets. They do it all so well. My fair weather daily drivers last summer were this Golf, a 2018 GT3 Touring, and my venerable 993. For regular use, the Golf is ~80% of the fun of the GT3 for 20% of the money. Sold the GT3 shortly thereafter just because I prefer the Golf. Will never sell the 993, though.”

“My heart skipped a beat when I saw this. My first job out of college was working for TDM in Livonia MI which later became Wheel to Wheel a prototype shop for GM’s Jon Moss. We built a 383 6spd SS with a rollcage for GM Special Vehicles to do high speed testing at MIS. I don’t think this is that car but always wondered what happened to it and many others. Great first engineering job for a young gear head.”
