“I am Bernie’s eldest daughter. I would like to thank everyone for their positive comments. My dad has read them all. I would also like to “publicly” thank @skydriver1949 for the countless hours he has spent helping my dad through this process. My dad bought this car when he was 32 and it’s been a cherished (and fun!) part of our family. While it’s difficult to part with the car, it’s time for someone new to be able to appreciate its history.”

“My father loved VWs and I grew up surrounded by a barnyard of mostly early 50s cars and vans. We swapped engines without any regard for anything except which ones ran the best. This is an amazing car anyway, but what truly astonishes me is the original engine still in place. Incredible.”

“We’ve been going to Bonneville for over 25 years. First with the Buell team ( I got into the 130 Club on a Buell). In 2008, I set 2 landspeed records, ECTA Maxton and Speedweek. I got my A liscense in 2009. After a break to concentrate on our motorcycle race team (AFT Flat Track) we returned with a Ford F150 Lightening. We are the current record holder in the A/FMP class at 170+ MPH. This year we are Gold Sponsors of the SCTA-BNI Bonneville season. My intention is to return this legendary Audi…”

“I knew this was a California car as soon as I saw the chrome wheels. In the 90s, my uncle, who was a doctor in Newport Beach, bought this exact same spec. As a kid who was used to being toted around in spartan Volvos, I thought it was the fanciest car I had ever sat in.
FWIW early 1UZ-FEs are non-interference engines so timing belt failure (which is rare) is not necessarily catastrophic.”

“A turquoise R2 4-speed is the quentessential Avanti and very few other cars for the same money will draw more attention.
However, been so long since I have seen an Avanti MSRP window sticker, I’d forgotten Studebaker had the unmitigated gall to ding the buyer $20 for TV advertising and $50 for Metro advertising. Go figure!
I bow to no man in my love for the Avanti, but it was always costly and this just seems to be added insult to injury.

“I’ll tell you, when I was a kid in the ‘80s I thought the two coolest cars in existence were the Countach and the 928. I held them in almost equal regard. I’m happy to see a pinnacle 928 getting the love!”

“As a Kia enthusiast (yes, we exist), this is the holy grail. The looks you’d get for telling people what this is make it worth any expense. I’d rather have one of these over the Lotus version, just for that novelty. The stock drivetrain isn’t bad at all, but I can’t help but wonder how one of these would do with a modern Gamma 1.6 or 1.6T swap from Hyundai. In a way you’d keep it “in the family” but really liven it up. I don’t think there’s as many purists out there for the Kia version anyway.…”

“In 1967, my dad informed me that he had purchased, with my savings, 1960 Falcon with 60K miles for $325.00.
While it would not have been my choice, I was excited to enter the world of independence from walking, bicycling and public transportation.
The 144 ci engine didn’t last long with my heavy foot and the constant diet of re-refined oil I fed it from our local Site gas station.
I found a 260 at the junk yard and that was a great improvement.
The original radiator did not like the 260, so…”

“100-4’s are amazing cars. One of the most beautify production Sports Cars every produced; especially with the windshield in the down position. On top of the Aesthetics, its an amazing car to drive on a winding country road; the sound, the wind whistling by your ears, and the the overall fun is exciting.
This car may not win a gold level medal at any concours shows but it will win the gold when it comes to having fun and attracting attention on the road or a local classic car show.

“I love seeing this. A Porsche driven just like it was built to do.
My wife and I drove our 1982 181k miles. Sold it in 2015 with 195k miles. Original owner only drove it 14k miles in his4 year ownership. He missed out.
I miss that car! Oh, side note! One day when I took her in for service there was one just like ours on the rack. She had 425k miles on it. Made me jealous.”

“TA rear spoilers rarely fit well, especially original cars, and even more so 79-81 cars with their urethane corner pieces. The later corner pieces also tend to appear as slightly different colors, and tend to fade to the point where the urethane is visible.
This car shows exceptionally well. I personally wouldn’t touch a thing in terms of overall appearance. This is certainly a rare offering amongst later TAs!”
