The Porsche Paint-to-Sample Collection, from Wob Cars

The Porsche 911 has always been the exception to the rule of Resale Red. But then again, the 911—bug-eyed, rear-engined, and improbably configured as a 2+2—has long been the exception to nearly every sports car convention. Every generation manages to look good in almost any color we can perceive with our trichromatic rods and cones, and this is why the factory has been accommodating paint-to-sample requests since the 1960s. The program was formalized in the 1990s, and now offers an extended menu hundreds of colors deep. This latest collection from Wob consists of 16 991- and 992-generation cars finished in Paint-to-Sample schemes, many with additional options from the Special Wishes catalog.

The cars will be offered in two groups, and the auctions begin going live today, March 24. The collection includes a host of desirable models: two Sport Classic, four Turbo S, three GT3 Touring, three Targa 4, and one each of the 911 S/T, 911 Speedster, and GT2 RS. Since this is all about color, we’ll preview them with a trip around the spectrum.

Racing Red 2023 Porsche 911 Sport Classic and Manaus Blue 2023 Porsche 911 Sport Classic

The 911 Sport Classic is special, even in a crowded field of 911 specials. Just 1,250 were built, and these cars are #224 and #379, respectively. The Sport Classic was outfitted as a sort of “GT2 lite,” with a Turbo-spec twin-turbocharged 3.7L flat-six, seven-speed manual transaxle, and rear-wheel drive. Both the Racing Red and Manaus Blue cars feature graphics and ducktail spoilers calling back to those found on the Carrera RS 2.7.

Mint Green 2022 Porsche 911 Turbo S Coupe

Some PTS colors have mysterious and esoteric names, but not Mint Green. Here it dresses the bodywork of a 992.1 Turbo S coupe, which has also been optioned with a carbon fiber roof, Exclusive Design taillights, carbon-ceramic brake rotors, staggered center-lock wheels, and a factory Sport Exhaust, among other equipment. Chalk leather covers heated and ventilated adaptive sport seats, and the digital odometer indicates that 1,700 miles have been driven since new.

Gulf Blue 2023 Porsche 911 GT3 Touring and Blue Turquoise 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 Touring 6-Speed

John Wyer’s Gulf livery has festooned some of the most famous cars in racing history, and two of the most famous were made by Porsche. This GT3 Touring is a roadgoing tribute to monsters of sportscar racing like the 908 and the 917, with orange Touring side script and an over-the-top racing stripe. With a 502-horsepower, normally-aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six, a six-speed manual gearbox, and rear-wheel drive, it can certainly back up its race-inspired appearance with raw performance. The second GT3T is finished in Blue Turquoise and shares its spec with the Gulf car, while also including Cognac Brown leather and houndstooth cloth 18-way adaptive Sport Plus seats and a front axle lift system.

Xblue 2024 Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS 7-Speed

Porsche has given the name “Xblue” to this shade, which to us looks similar to the dark blue found on WWII American Navy fighters. It’s an attractive shade from the PTS catalog, and is one of $51k in options that were equipped from the factory, including rear-axle steering, Power Steering Plus, a front-axle lift system, and a Burmester Surround Sound system. The twin-turbo 3.0-liter flat-six makes 473 horsepower, and a seven-speed manual gearbox keeps things at a rolling boil.

Fjord Green 2024 Porsche 911 S/T

The S/T badge originated in the early 1970s with a series of Group 4 911s that clad 911S mechanicals in a lighter 911T body. Porsche reprised the concept in 2024 with a GT3-based special featuring a Touring body with lightweight panels and glass over the highly tuned GT3 RS drivetrain. The one-year model has become one of the most desirable limited-production specials in recent memory, and this example is finished in a PTS shade of Fjord Green over carbon fiber bucket seats in black leather with striped cloth inserts. Forest Green Metallic 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster and Oak Metallic Neo 2026 Porsche 911 GT3 Touring 6-Speed and Dark Olive Metallic 2023 911 Turbo S Cabriolet

These three cars, in various shades of dark green, speak to the depth of the PTS palette. Want a slightly bluer shade? Take the Forest Green Metallic 2019 Speedster (also a BaT Alumnus). Dark Oak Metallic is a vivid, saturated dark green hue that adorns a three-pedal 2026 GT3 Touring with $53k in options and delivery miles on the odometer. The Dark Olive Metallic paint of the 2023 Turbo S Cabriolet adds a touch of brown into the mixture, lending a serious look to a car that otherwise screams “fun.”

Urban Bamboo ChromaFlair 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S

Color-shifting paint is making a comeback, and the slightly iridescent ChromaFlair effect brings this light green shade, called Urban Bamboo, to another level. Like the 992 Turbo S itself, it manages to be subtle and flashy at the same time.

Anthracite Brown Metallic 2025 Porsche 911 Turbo S/Turbo 50

Anthracite has lent its name to dozens of car manufacturers, all of whom assigned it to their dark gray-black colors. But Porsche recognized the variety the mineral exhibits when found in its natural state, and added this lovely shade of Anthracite Brown Metallic into their PTS selection. The car it coats is #941 of 1,974 911 Turbo 50 Years examples, which featured design cues inspired by Turbo models of years past like matte black accents on the rear spoiler, side mirrors, and front fascia, as well as special badging. All Turbo 50 Years models received a 640-horsepower twin-turbocharged 3.7-liter flat-six and a seven-speed PDK gearbox feeding power to all four wheels.

Alex Grey 2021 Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS and Slate Gray 2021 Porsche 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition 7-Speed and Slate Grey 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 6-Speed

Finally, we have a trio of cars showcasing the variety to be found even in less colorful parts of the PTS spectrum. Up top is 2021 Targa 4 GTS in Alex Grey—a non-metallic, clay-like shade complemented by a satin black Targa bar and matching RS Spyder Design wheels. Slate Grey was an $11k option on the Heritage Design Edition Targa 4S, and this collection includes one of 992 cars in the series. The cabin is trimmed with two-tone leather in Bordeaux Red and Atacama Beige. Slate Gray (with an “a”) is a much lighter shade found on the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3, which received an extensive package of options through the Special Wishes program including a Bordeaux Red extended leather interior with black Race-Tex accents and contrast stitching, as well as carbon-ceramic brakes, rear axle steering, two-tone center lock wheels, and other special touches.

531-Mile, Grey Black 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS

The final offering is a 2018 GT2 RS in non-metallic Grey Black, with 531 miles on the odometer. The GT2 RS sits at the top of the 911 heap with a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six making 700 horsepower and 533 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed PDK transaxle. Weight-saving measures include a carbon-fiber roof and aero components, as well as carbon fiber bucket seats. To keep all that power in check, the car features Torque Vectoring, rear-axle steering, adjustable dampers and roll bars, Porsche Active Suspension Management, Porsche Stability Management, and carbon-ceramic brake rotors.
