“My dad also has a Judson in his ’56 lowlight and got me hooked on 36hps. I currently have an Okrasa and just pulled a ’58 T2 36hp out of my Brasilia science project. I see at one point in picture 507 this Ghia had an Okrasa setup. I would have loved to talk to the owner/builder and hear their feedback on the differences. Does the motor still have the Okrasa 69.5 crank or upgraded (356/custom) camshaft with the Judson setup? Does it by chance have a the uber rare “high compression” domed VW…”

Among his fabulous cars (e.g. the first production Cobra) is the SWB Berlinetta that won its class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1961, the highest placing of a SWB at Le Mans.”

“I had one 50 years ago. Definitely fun and to say driving is a “vintage experience” doesn’t really cut it. It’s pretty much pre-war in feel, but with more power. You are exposed to the elements to about the same degree as a motorcycle with a windshield, and the chassis is the best British custom: suspension that allows you to drive over a dime and tell if it’s heads or tails, and tires with similar width to a current electric mountain bike.”

“In high school I drove a ’66 mustang with a 289 and a ’66 red convertible 6 cyl similar to this. I always really enjoyed the 6 cyl version. It was much easier to steer, and somehow felt more fun and nimble.
Still have the 289 (notchback, Ivy Green Metallic). It was my Mom’s car from new and has been lovingly taken care of. One day it will pass to my nephew.”

“The original owner of this car was a friend of mine and I can vouch that this car is everything it is claimed to be. John was a lifetime “collector” and over the years he bought a number of brand new vehicles, drove them home from the dealer, and never drove them again. For him, it was all about “having”. When he was a youngster in the 70’s and 80’s, he was well known in Studebaker circles for his cross-country road trips in his fleet Studebaker Diesel trucks.

“Fun memories of seeing this bike in Rob’s shop. We used to do a “garage tour” on British bikes in San Diego. Rob would bring us into his crazy workshop which included a land speed record “bike” built around a Delta jet turbine engine. He loved this Rudge. These have high quality engineering for their time and currently have decent parts availability through UK owner’s club. Thanks for bringing to BaT!”

“Awesome car. I love pic 149 because it tells a story of what likely happened to most radio delete Camaros in the early 80s when these cars were cheap enough to be purchased by teenagers who would not be caught dead in a car with no tunes. I can see the kid with his dad’s hacksaw, tin snips and pliers lying on his back in that trunk going to town. A couple hours later, with his brand new Jensen Tri-Axials installed, he’s cruising around town with tunes blaring. Radio delete option be damned!!”

“I don’t think Frankenstein is an issue in Aston Martin world. Many are upgraded to Vantage spec, many DB4/5/6 are built to 4.7 Vantage spec. Like Panteras and aircooled Porsches, there’s no shame in that. I think it’s only in the US musclecar world that originality is a MUST. I think that’s because there were so many made and so many customised in the day, that originality is their only rare virtue. But with a car that only 3,500 were made in a 22 year production run, sympathetic modifications…”
