I had no idea there was an array of speed equipment for the flathead six, particularly to the level of a high compression aluminum head. Reading the attached Cathcart article (from 1999!) suggests at least 140HP from this little 169ci flattie. It’s got to be a light car, I’m guessing under 3K lbs…”

“Wow! If your drove this in 1966 you were a very successful owner-operator with great taste! That’s an extra long WB too meant for specialized loads. I watched the videos to see any sign of power steering so only Armstrong steering? My family was in the trucking business (in many aspects) and worked at a Kenworth store in NJ in the clean up bay. Much like old vs modern pickup trucks, they had evolved from bare bones working vehicles to modern, comfortable places to be. GLWTA #keepontruckin”

Not enough people understand how the Accord raised the bar for attractive design and basic equipment. The rustproofing material is most typical of any car sold in western Pennsylvania, where salt use and rust were commonplace… probably instrumental in keeping this car on the road and on your screen today. By comparison the RX-7 seemed so fast and handled like it was on rails. In retrospect they only had about 100 hp, but I thought I was in a fire breathing racecar. Fun times!”

“I’m having a stroll down memory lane this morning. My mom owned this 914 for about 33 years. She loved this car and enjoyed thousands of miles behind the wheel. She ran it a few times in the late 70’s and early 80’s in Corvette/Porsche rallies. I cruised the Puyallup loop in it back in high school. Got beat in a drag race against at Mustang. I can share some vintage photos of the car if the new buyer would like them. GLWTA I will be watching fondly. By the way it was originally bronze.”
