“I made a comment on this auction before an epic 10 day trip to Italy. I’m back. The auction is still going!
I was in northern Italy (Milan and Lake Como) and guess how many Ferraris I saw?
One. One solitary 296… in ten days.
My son: “Dad, where are all the Ferraris?”
    Me: “In the USA.””

“Mezger engine block was literally built to be wailed on at redline for 24 hrs straight, it’s nearly impossible to destroy it, you have to be intentionally holding it past redline for probably 1 hr+.
Reminds me of the old cash for clunkers video where they emptied the oil pan on an 80 series landcruiser, put it in neutral, and floored it. It took like 20+ mins at past redline for the engine to give out with no lubrication.”

If coming west stay off 80 at night when rainy lol. 200’s are the best when on point.”

“My father was in the Army from 1939 until 1969 when he retired as a Colonel. He was active duty thru WWII and then in the reserve until he retired. He drove a split window VW like this to his reserve meetings and drills. I once asked him why the VW? He said it was reliable and got great gas mileage. Having been raised during the depression he was very frugal. This auction brings many fond memories. GLWTA.”

I did a ’62 years ago that started out a lot worse than this and ended up stunning. For the adventurous (and young) this could be an awesome project! GLWTA”

“Of course, the whole 250,000 Auctions Milestone was all anybody could talk about at the Grounds for Divorce. Lucinda started promoting it the minute the listing went live, offering a Two-Fer on Texas pecan pie and free Folgers to anyone who showed up wearing a Bring a Trailer T-shirt.
Hank over at the Lucky Lady Lounge had a similar promotion going, but the T-shirt had to be wet and there were considerably fewer takers. Ultimately, Earl from Earl’s Salvage Yard and Formalwear took home the…”

“OK, I’ve been meaning to write this story for awhile now, and so now is the appropriate time to share that story.
I remember in the early 2000s when all the trade rags showed the new Mustang. they were beautiful. I would periodically go and test drive them. I remember once driving a GT with a 3.73 rear end and a 5-speed manual and that thing had some git up and go!
Where I live, they have a car show every MLK weekend. They had one of these Bullitts on display and I wanted one.…”

    “@WIZZZZ
I met Fred at Bonneville in 1963. He had set a 2-way record the previous year at 99.06 mph with his absolutely stock Corvair Monza. I had managed to go 107 mph with my stock 61 Corvair but needed bigger tires. Fred told me that Rambler Station Wagons had 15″ wheels that would fit Corvairs. There was a little junk yard on the outskirts of Wendover, Utah right on the state border with Nevada. I went down there and found a Nash Rambler in there with two 6.40 X 15″ tires (1 was…”

I show up in my 1989 80 Quattro, my wife drove our 2001 TT 225 Roadster, and a guy I had never seen before at any Audi event shows up in one of these. Jaws dropped. He was super nice, down to earth, and had no problem with any of us getting in and checking it out.”

“In the world of VW owners who loved their sporty cars in the 1980s there will always be Golf/GTI owners and Scirocco owners. I was very proudly the latter.
I am a 3x Scirocco loyalist and owned a 1977, a 1982, and lastly a 1988 16v. To me the Scirocco stood apart from the rest of the VW lineup and the styling was a huge draw to it. I made so many lifelong memories in those cars, most notably my 16v as I had it in college and even met my wife-to-be while I owned it.
