“Any compact two door wagon is cool in its own right and being a Stude ensures it’ll be the only one anywhere it goes. What’s most unique and exciting about this rarity though is the engine build. I had no idea there was an array of speed equipment for the flathead six, particularly to the level of a high compression aluminum head. Reading the attached Cathcart article (from 1999!) suggests at least 140HP from this little 169ci flattie. It’s got to be a light car, I’m guessing under 3K lbs…”

“Nobody in Fort Stockton ever knew exactly where Harold and Eleanor Whitcomb were headed when they left, and after a while they stopped asking. It had become as dependable as church bells and the Dairy Twin closing at nine. Every Sunday, sometime after lunch, the old Mercury wagon would ease out of their driveway with a picnic basket tucked behind the front seat and Harold’s weathered county highway map folded neatly beside him. They never seemed to have a destination. Yet when they returned,…”

“I drove a 2012 manual Fit for three years before I lost it in a flood trying to cross an underpass. They float extremely well by the way.
It was SO much fun to drive. It fit two bikes in the back with the seats up. Storage was best. I’ve not had a similar size car since that was as enjoyable. The Fiesta ST is a close second but the FIT had better (less) torque steer when burning the tires in the wet. It would get rubber past 2nd gear on moist roads.
    Indestructible….unless you drive it…”

“I worked at a Toyota dealership detailing cars when these came out. People hated the color back then! The dealership marked $5k off all of them on the windshield and had a $500 bonus commission for the salespeople if they could sell them. Now…it’s maybe the hardest color to come by and highly sought after. Interesting how things change.”

“Wow! What a lovely monster! Given there are more dirt roads than paved in Nevada and given the fact this truck has been driven 220K miles, it is obvious that whoever owned the truck loved it enough to take meticulously good care of it. I keep telling myself I don’t need a truck this big but every time I look at the photos I have this irrational desire to hit the “bid” button!”

The F1 drivers at the time said that he could have been a professional driver and he drove the Firebird during stunts (ex. J-Turns) better than the professionals, so they let him do it. Even with 2 bad knees.”

“Chris here, the founder of S30.world
I’ve truly enjoyed the auction so far and am humbled by the response from everyone.
I have invested an extraordinary amount of time and resources into the S30 platform and for those who truly understand these cars, the reason is obvious.
When I finally decided to take the 240Z back to the level of when it first left the factory, it became a personal statement and an expression of pure passion for the car. I wanted to create a tribute to the S30…”

“I am both really happy and sad at the same time to see this car listed by Fred on BaT. I was the one that originally built it as part of a project series on our old website (VWVortex.com) and it looks like Fred has really done a nice job in preserving and maintaining my old car. Bid with confidence.. and I will look forward to seeing the questions and the auction progress.”

“I’ve always has a soft spot for first-year designs. Back in the day, car designers were able to accomplish things with their new creations that actually made it into first year production. These unique attributes were often removed or replaced by the bean counters in subsequent model years. The 67 TBird is a good example: compare the front bumper on this car to a 68 or later and you’ll find a beautifully designed full-chrome piece that is replaced by painted metal on other models. “My Dad and I were at our local Ford dealer buying yet another LTD for family use back in the day. Our sales guy was working on my Dad’s most recent offer (a little game they played). A car carrier truck pulled up front at the dealership and our salesman got all crazy. He said his new ’71 Mach 1 was on the truck and would we mind if he took a minute to get it on the ground. Dad said sure and we all went out to see a very red Mach 1. They got it off the truck and the new owner was just giddy with…”

This is the genuine RCA sticker for parking lot, when Pat Ieraci owned this Volvo since it was new. Pat Ieraci was the influence with RCA to sign Jefferson Airplane. I emailed with (the late) Ieraci’s daughter. She remembered the Volvo with fondness and said her father dearly loved the car. We owned the Volvo and sold it to the present owner. Thank you for the shout Randy @BaT – I would’ve missed the listing otherwise. Time travel is fun, eh?
I bought this car in Las Vegas in 2012 after years of hunting for a good one. Even back then, they were quite rare. On the drive home to San Francisco, I took a dirt detour through Titus Canyon in Death Valley, and you can see pics from that in the original auction gallery.
