“A great car with a great story! I’m often surprised how wing cars are optioned. For example, the C-21 Center front-seat cushion and folding armrest with column automatic, seen here. Deluxe wheel covers? I guess I assume it’s a class of car that would naturally be more loaded up.
Of course their existence as the manufacturers were pushing the limits of NASCAR homologation rules ensures they are inherently fascinating. Producing them had nothing to do with marketing them for profit.…”

Someone will be getting a beautiful example and it being the first year of production is even a nicer feature. GLWTA👌👌👌”

“@64_S1 Not only can you drive this back home to the Midwest, you SHOULD! As one who has driven my S2 Elan coast to coast and border to border, I highly recommend it, with a couple of caveats. First, as you noted, install the side windows. Even with the top down it will keep the wind from beating you up. Then, when you put the top up, only if needed for major rain of course, you will stay relatively dry.
Second, do not use interstate highways unless there is no reasonable alternative. As the…”

“There has been a great deal of robust technical discussion about this remarkable car, but I would like to take the opportunity to share some additional background about my dad and what this car truly meant to him—and to our family.
In October of 1972, at the age of 39, my dad ordered the car, and it arrived in August of 1973. At the time, my sisters and I were 16, 13, and 10 years old. I clearly remember seeing it for the first time and thinking it was beautiful, powerful, fast, and loud.…”

“Ok, we’re starting to get more realistic with the bids. I have no stake in this auction but as I have to live up to my BaT nickname, I’ll put in my two-cents-worth: The narrow 4-headlight model is in the middle of the collectability hierarchy of the 603 line. My late-model ’69 sold here in 2017 is at the bottom as these are the most common. (Though the later ones have the advantage of 4-wheel disk brakes.) The early 3-headlight ones are the most desirable as they are very rare, have a more…”

“This is cool. During the 1950s and 1960s, my grandmother worked for Helms Bakery in Montebello, CA. When I was young, I toured the plant and saw her working—baking donuts.
She would bring home the cardboard miniature Helms trucks for me…
Decades later, for her 90th birthday party, I made it a Helms Bakery–themed event and found an original unfolded cardboard Helms Bakery truck on eBay. I reproduced them so each table had a miniature Helms truck.
The family went nuts over those…”

“Could be a straightforward project for Marcos lovers who want to experience ownership. Perhaps a marque expert could chime in on whether the steel frame is of similar configuration to the original plywood ones and where the potential trouble spots might be before asking for more info from the seller. “I am the previous of this car and I knew the engineer that built the car. The builder was a very talented engineer and sadly he passed away. I knew the car and I bought it from his estate. The car is a blast to drive and I will miss it. The only reason I have for selling it is that I am getting old and I still have a bucket list of cars that I would like to own before it is too late. I am sure that the new owner of this car will get a lot of enjoyment out of it.”

“It is a particular pleasure to make comments about this particular alloy engine . disc brake 300SL Roadster. 210 of the total of 1958 300SL Roadsters manufactured between ’57-’63 had the lower weight alloy block engines. These were produced from 3/62 through 2/8/63. The factory built an initial run of 229 numbered alloy block engines, all in 1962, 19 of which were “spares” I owned a number of this variety of 300SL RO’s including this one from ’89-’98. As I recall it was completed in the…”

Took us 24 hours! After a few years the drivers floor pan rusted through. A sheet of 3/8 plywood cut to size fixed that. It was no longer the Fred Flintstone mobile! Also had a problem with the horn button. Every time we would turn the wheel to take a corner the horn would honk. NO PROBLEM! We would wave at…”

“The 330 GTC has always been a favorite of mine. And the 512BB. When I was first working out of college in the early ’80’s my wife and I honeymooned in San Francisco and I dragged her to Ferrari Los Gatos, and there on the floor were my two dream cars, a 330 GTC sitting next to a 512BB. I remember them being in the $25 – $35K range? And thinking, I’ll be able to afford one of those. Unfortunately life intervened and prices for these cars increased but I was finally able to realize a dream…”

I started discussing the car with Chuck Beck in early 2020, and pulled the trigger in October of 2020. It was a 3 year build process, and I visited the factory many times during the build. My wife was involved too, and picked out the interior colors. I think it turned out nicely. Thanks for all the positive comments.”
