“Son of the late owner here. My dad found and imported this car (and a few others, including the recent Woodie Fiat Topolino on BaT). He had a collection of several dozen vintage European cars, including many Ferraris, Alfa’s, Lancia, Fiats, Porsches, etc. He was a perfectionist when it came to cars and became more interested in hot rods like this one as time went on because they were more fun to drive on the gorgeous NY back roads. It’s been a part of most of our life celebrations in some way. He passed away this year and it feels time to let someone else make a memory with it. “It always amazed/surprised me that if you bought a Cadillac of that era, the convertible top from the inside exposed the bare metal frame and had no headliner but the modest VW came standard with a substantial padded cloth inner liner that concealed the frame structure while reducing road noise and increasing cabin warmth and comfort.”

“This 599 is an earlier production as in the later production for 2007 the ceramic brakes became standard. Also, Ferrari jacked up the base price from $258k to $321k base price. Significantly increased the cost. These cars are appreciating fast. F-1 transmission is a very nice transmission in my opinion even though general public prefers the clutch version. Good luck.”

“Any compact two door wagon is cool in its own right and being a Stude ensures it’ll be the only one anywhere it goes. What’s most unique and exciting about this rarity though is the engine build. I had no idea there was an array of speed equipment for the flathead six, particularly to the level of a high compression aluminum head. Reading the attached Cathcart article (from 1999!) suggests at least 140HP from this little 169ci flattie. It’s got to be a light car, I’m guessing under 3K lbs…”
