“Ah, the memories! This was my first-ever brand new car, purchased in Petersburg, Virginia when this fresh Army Quartermaster second lieutenant received a small fortune (It seemed so at the time) from the Army in TDY pay and turned it into Kenosha metal. Mine had the 343 not the 390, but was exactly this color, same transmission, and the brown leather which was original to this car, too. The car accompanied me to my first–and only–duty station in West Germany because officers’ car-shipping was…”

“This is my car. I have had every generation of 911, air cooled and water cooled, turbo and NA, all of which are in various states of “hot rod”. Even my CGT has some mods. I bought this car to hot rod as well, but it was so mint that I couldn’t do it, it is truly flawless inside and out. However, my OCD got the best of me and I invested whatever was needed to make the car perfect and decided to let it go as an offering to the BAT community. @hoarsche enjoy!”

“My son was racing our Datsun roadster in D Production one of the times Paul ran in the same class at Daytona. He wandered up to our crew working on our roadsturd. His crew had sent him to borrow a multimeter. He would just show up and pay the late regristration fees so everyones crew wouldn’t be packed with “crew” there just to catch a look at him as a star. I think he enjoyed just being one of us club racers. Very pleasant to talk to. He wasn’t in a hurry to get back to his crew who might have…”

“This is what the first-gen Celica liftback was meant to be. We got what was spec’ed for US market, same chassis but with the big 5mph bumpers and a much lower-performance engine. The 20R is great for a truck, but 100 hp at 4800 rpm isn’t as much fun as an 18R-G140 hp at 6500 rpm in a sub-2500 lb car.

Were the dash and console panels painted gray? I believe all the RA29s had woodgrain vinyl stickers, which harked back to the 2000GT’s beautiful woodwork, but perhaps that was also…”

A quintessential West Coast “car guy,” he organized the California Mille (1000 mile historic race car tour on Northern California back roads) in 1991 after discovering and driving Italy’s most-famous open road race (Mille Miglia) in 1982.

“Back in the year 2001, I had this long-held notion I’d own a BMW 2002 in the YEAR 2002. So, obviously I began my search too early and found one far too quickly. So, In the dead of Winter, I rented a car and drove from Michigan to Washington DC and bought an Inka 1973 2002tii with sunroof. I drove it home, missing the blizzard in Pennsyvanis by a half day.
A few years later, in 2005, when I moved to the West Coast I drove it to from Michigan, covering 5000 miles within a month — crossing…”

“As a retired Aerospace Engine-nerd, I can relate to this car and the OCD of the prior owners/family. This one won’t be restored nor turned for profit, but it will be driven in the desert southwest and turn over 100,000 miles within a year or so. I drive ’em, I don’t show them or brag about them. Enjoy your cars folks! We ain’t gettin’ any younger, time goes so quickly.

“Awesome car. I love pic 149 because it tells a story of what likely happened to most radio delete Camaros in the early 80s when these cars were cheap enough to be purchased by teenagers who would not be caught dead in a car with no tunes. I can see the kid with his dad’s hacksaw, tin snips and pliers lying on his back in that trunk going to town. A couple hours later, with his brand new Jensen Tri-Axials installed, he’s cruising around town with tunes blaring. Radio delete option be damned!!”

I got to see this car in person, and all I can say is WOWW!! This car is spectacular. Down to details like proper hose clamps, it’s just done so nicely and correctly. Not that you’ll need it, but GLWTA!”

“Thanks P 38. I went to college driving a new R1 with air-conditioning. And automatic. I dated.my wife in a red Avanti. Married in 1965 and sold the Avanti get a car with a bench seat for our daughter’ s car seat. I have known where my original car is but have tried unsuccessfully for 30 years to buy it. When this car came along, I said what the heck. I’m excited to have a supercharged car and relieve some old memories. That is a lot of what the old car hobby is about.”

From RAII in 1968 (356 cars), RAIV in 68 & 69 (1808 cars), 455 H.O. in 71 & 72 (5037 cars) and the last of the Mohicans, SD-455 in 73 & 74 (1296 cars). “One of my long-time car friends is a national champion level modeler. When my wife and I married his wedding gift to us was a custom-built diorama of a C-Type Jaguar at le Mans. Remains my second favorite gift from the wedding (my wife’s unending love is the most favorite).
There have been far too many years passed since I build a car or airplane model. I have quite a few unbuilt kits on the shelf, I need to either get building or move them along.”

I spectate and enjoy getting to see the first car I ever drove on a road course – the #78 Boss 302 Matthews car that you would be running with if you go. The guy that restored it barely knew me and still let me run it in the Cobra Club novice group around 35 years ago now that I think about it! Changed my life – drag raced one more time after that before putting fat tires all around on my 70 Fastback 🙂 Guy that has…”
