“Not sure if it was 62 or 63, but my dad was the sales manager at the local Ford dealership and brought home a 427 Galaxie to show the neighbors. Everyone took turns driving it up and down the street, but the highlight was my mom getting in and smoking the tires the length of 2 houses. Mom was bad-ass!”

Thank you for the shout Randy @BaT – I would’ve missed the listing otherwise. Time travel is fun, eh?
I bought this car in Las Vegas in 2012 after years of hunting for a good one. Even back then, they were quite rare. On the drive home to San Francisco, I took a dirt detour through Titus Canyon in Death Valley, and you can see pics from that in the original auction gallery. One of my favorite car memories of all…”

“While hitchhiking to the 1966 Comblain Latour Jazz Festival I got stranded somewere south of Liege. It was a wet and heazy night. In the far distance under the orange light of a lonely streetlamp I noticed a highly unfamiliar shape. It looked like some kind of alien spacecraft. As I got nearer I saw that it wasn’t a space vehicle, but a road car of a type I didn’t know it existed, had never seen before, and for that matter have never seen again, save for some pictures. It was a Bizzarini like the one…”

“Folks, the Gen 5 Viper was the epitome of everything great with cars. Manual transmission, rear wheel drive, hydraulic steering, and beautiful art inside and out with modern day technology. They will never make cars like this again and nothing made right now even matches the visceral feel of this. When you have mass produced 911s going for 200-500k, it’s amazing that this is not going for more than 500k. Those cars are so boring compared to this!”

That toothy front may well have inspired this 1955 Motorama Dream Car:

Nice modifications, and it appears that the seller has had a lot of fun while keeping it in fine running shape. Though lots of miles, I bet that the next owner can get years more use if they stay on top of issues as they arise.

“I flew back seat in one of these in Vietnam in 1969. On a flight from Phan Rang to Bao Loc, we were doing some low contour flying, and flushed out a huge tiger, which we chased down a clearing for several hundred yards, before it dived back into the jungle. If you’ve seen a house cat stretch out while running at full speed, you can imagine the size of a big tiger, at speed. I think he was longer than the L-19. I remember it, as if it was yesterday.”

“A 1993 900 turbo was the first car I ever bought for myself after grad school. That was after putting 160,000 miles on a 1983 900S that I drove in all 48 of the continental US. The motors in these cars are bulletproof. And driving them always felt like flying an airplane. My screen name is homage to the 9000 Aero that replaced the 900 turbo. To say I was obsessed with SAABs in my 20s and 30s would be an understatement. They were front wheel drive Porsches, the most intelligent cars ever built.…”

We sold them both to a local real estate company to give away 2 year leases to the 2 top salespeople in a timed sales contest. I made great friends with one winner, a gal who was their top producer year after year. They loved it, bought it at lease end. Well they owned property in Florida and wanted the car there, so asked me if I would drive it down for them they would fly me back. What a…”

“Here is some history on the Grand Prix of America race car
This car originates from Grand Prix of America (GPA), an ambitious early 1970s motorsports venture conceived and executed by the DeLorean brothers in Troy, Michigan. Developed in Detroit with race engineering intent, GPA sought to deliver an authentic Grand Prix style driving experience to the public through purpose built single seaters and permanent road courses—establishing a direct lineage to later attractions such as Malibu…”

Then later in (my) early car-guy days we heard of a 1980 Limited Edition barnfind that was available nearby. It was the only iteration of the MGB that my dad had yet to own. Once we brought it home, I learned some things on it like how to bleed the brakes and clutch, make minor metal repairs, detailing tips/tricks, and most importantly how to drive a manual…”
