“I owned an ‘85 nearly identical to this. I drove it the way Carroll Shelby intended. I quickly installed the Mopar Performance logic module and after getting the timing dialed in and an AutoMeter boost gauge installed, I was even more ready to “Go Like Hell.” So, one Friday evening in the spring, I was laying down rubber in first and second gear at each stop.

“Automatics are great – First, generally driven less spiritedly over their lifetime. Second, the automatic is actually very good. My auto on back roads, 2nd gear could go from about 25 mph to 70 mph. Often with a group of other 02s, I would be pushing the car in front of me that was modified. Third, the auto works while you find that 5 speed that is wider than a 4 speed and what else is wider? The tunnel in an automatic. No hammer needed for installation.

The pictures remind me of the pictures I have of my Mom and Dad in front of Dad’s late thirties Harley in their leather motorcycle jackets, over the calf motorcycle boots, and riding pants. They rode from Indiana to the west coast and to Florida a couple of times. A hardy pair.”

“@PWSchuh Great observation! This Ace has lived a full life on the track since 1964, and the current suspension reflects how it was dialed in for competition. It handled the turns at Lime Rock and the Hershey Hillclimb beautifully with this setup. While it’s a blast to drive on the street now, the new owner can always revert to a stock alignment. We wanted to show the car with the ‘soul’ of its racing history intact!”

“This is what the first-gen Celica liftback was meant to be. We got what was spec’ed for US market, same chassis but with the big 5mph bumpers and a much lower-performance engine. The 20R is great for a truck, but 100 hp at 4800 rpm isn’t as much fun as an 18R-G140 hp at 6500 rpm in a sub-2500 lb car.

“@dje7 Growing up I remember always seeing Mustangs in my neighborhood. My family had 3, my Dad’s, my Brother bought the red convertible in the pictures from the neighbor when he got out of the army and I had a red 69 Fastback in my early 20’s. The Maverick in the pictures my Dad bought new for my Mom and if memory serves, he paid $1850. Those were simpler times. Galvanized steel garbage cans, TV antenna’s on roofs and a Mustang in a lot of the driveways.”

“Bought a 1987 XJS new, Drove it from 1987 to 2009 almost everyday. Sold it with 320K miles. Changed oil every 2000 miles Castrol 20/50. Rust began to become an issue, back window and windshield developed leaks. I miss the car, it cruised at 110mph like nothing. Climbed hills like they weren’t there. Handling at high speeds was unbelievable. Between the V12 and the suspension a true great car to drive.”

“I was a teenager HS student working at the corner service station. We had a local Dr that had one of these, his was the beautiful dark blue with matching padded top. He would pull in for gas, 27 gallon tank. After putting the car in “Park” he would tilt the wheel which would almost go horizontal on these and throw a small towel that covered the wheel from rim edge to edge. Gas up.
