Shaheen Afridi gives cautious reply on Pakistan captaincy

Pakistan ODI captain Shaheen Shah Afridi has avoided giving a long-term commitment about his leadership ahead of the 2027 ICC World Cup, saying that he remains captain “for now”. Speaking at a joint press conference with the captains of the teams participating in the National Champions Cup, Shaheen was asked whether he had received assurances that he would continue leading Pakistan until the World Cup. His response was brief. “For now, I am the captain,” he said. The left-arm fast bowler also stressed the importance of the Champions Cup in preparing Pakistan for the global tournament. He said the competition would help the national team build a wider pool of players and identify suitable replacements in case of injuries. Shaheen pointed out that injuries have frequently affected Pakistan’s World Cup campaigns. He said having additional players ready would make it easier for the team management to deal with any fitness concerns before the 2027 tournament. He added that the Champions Cup would allow players to perform in their preferred positions while competing against strong domestic opposition. According to Shaheen, the tournament will be important not only for individual players but also for assessing the overall strength and fitness of the national squad. He said the performances of players during the competition would help selectors identify those capable of contributing to Pakistan’s World Cup plans. “Our focus is on the World Cup,” Shaheen said, stressing that consistent performances and fitness would be key factors in selection. The National Champions Cup is scheduled to begin on Tuesday at Multan Cricket Stadium. Four teams will participate in the competition: Pakistan Greens, Pakistan Whites, Pakistan Blues and Pakistan Gold. Each team will face the others once during the league stage. Perez Hilton’s livestream prompts police response in Miami

Celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton prompted widespread concern after police responded to his Miami home following a disturbing TikTok livestream in which he appeared to harm himself. Videos that quickly spread across social media showed the 48-year-old internet personality in an apparent state of distress. In the clips, Hilton appeared visibly agitated and was seen with blood on his body while repeatedly using an object to injure himself. The footage led viewers to contact emergency services, fearing for his safety. Authorities confirmed they received multiple reports from concerned members of the public regarding a person appearing to self-harm during a livestream. Deputies were dispatched to Hilton’s residence to assess the situation and ensure his well-being. After arriving at the property, officers determined that Hilton was alone inside his home. Law enforcement officials said they chose a de-escalation approach, avoiding direct confrontation while also communicating with members of his family. Officials explained that when responding to incidents involving an individual experiencing a mental health crisis, officers often prioritize creating time and distance to reduce tension. Crisis intervention strategies are commonly used in such situations to encourage communication while minimizing the risk of harm to the individual, responding officers, and the public. The incident has sparked renewed discussion online about mental health awareness, crisis intervention, and the emotional pressures faced by public figures whose personal struggles often unfold in front of large audiences. Hilton has previously spoken publicly about his health and emotional challenges. Earlier this year, he revealed that he had been hospitalized for nearly three weeks after what initially appeared to be a case of the flu developed into a series of serious medical complications. According to Hilton, his condition worsened significantly, leading to an ulcer, a perforation, and eventually sepsis, a life-threatening response to infection. He later described the experience as one of the most difficult periods of his life. Following his recovery and return home, Hilton shared that the ordeal had transformed his outlook on life and faith. He said the experience strengthened his spiritual beliefs and inspired him to reconnect with religion. The media personality explained that he believed the difficult experience brought him closer to God and encouraged him to begin attending church regularly with his children. He described the change as deeply personal and life-changing. In recent months, Hilton had also hinted at ongoing emotional struggles through social media. In one video shared earlier this year, he asked followers to pray for him, saying he felt he was facing intense personal challenges. Perez Hilton, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., rose to fame in the mid-2000s through his celebrity gossip website, becoming one of the internet’s most recognizable entertainment bloggers. Over the years, he has remained active across various social media platforms while also focusing on raising his three children, all of whom were welcomed through surrogacy. The latest incident has prompted an outpouring of concern from fans and followers, many of whom expressed hope that Hilton receives the care and support he needs as he navigates this difficult period.

Jameela Jamil defends Ariana Grande remarks

British actor and activist Jameela Jamil has defended her recent comments about Ariana Grande’s appearance, saying her remarks were motivated by concern over beauty standards rather than criticism of the singer. Responding to backlash on Instagram, Jamil cited her own experience with anorexia and argued that discussions about the impact of celebrity imagery on young audiences should not be dismissed. Jamil had previously faced criticism after suggesting that Grande could be “possibly dying,” a comment that many social media users viewed as inappropriate. Addressing the backlash, the actress clarified that she had intentionally used the word “possibly” and insisted that her broader concern was the influence such images can have on girls and women. She wrote: “I said possibly. My god. And my point stands, that this is deeply irresponsible for all the people involved to deliver this aesthetic as glamorous to the many billions of girls and women consuming this imagery.” Jamil went on to explain that her views are shaped by her own struggle with anorexia, revealing that she nearly lost her life to the eating disorder. She said it was only through intervention from those around her that she was able to recover. Reflecting on her experience, she stated: “I feel extremely bad for Ariana having almost died of anorexia myself. And it was only due to the people around me intervening INSENSITIVELY once I willfully ignored (and sort of enjoyed) their careful concern, that I survived.” The actor acknowledged that she does not know Grande personally and stressed that she hopes the singer is healthy. At the same time, she argued that conversations about body image should focus on the impression such appearances leave on younger audiences. She wrote: “I don’t know Ariana and pray she recovers. I don’t think she’s in the comments sections of tiny posts, but young girls watching are, and we need to signal to THEM that this is not the time to pretend this is ok, just because ‘we shouldn’t talk about other people’s bodies.’” Jamil also referred to late American singer Karen Carpenter, whose battle with anorexia raised global awareness of eating disorders. She argued that society should not ignore potentially harmful beauty standards simply because they involve famous public figures. She said: “We do not pretend then that it is not appropriate to comment on how thin they are. We don’t have to pretend we are blind because it’s a pop star. Everyone is killing her by normalizing this. Silence is complicity when it gets this far.” Her comments have generated mixed reactions online. While some users praised Jamil for speaking openly about eating disorders and their impact, others argued that public speculation about another person’s health can be harmful, regardless of the intention. The discussion comes shortly after Ariana Grande announced an indefinite break from public-facing work following the conclusion of her Eternal Sunshine tour. Grande herself has not publicly responded to Jamil’s remarks, leaving the debate to continue across social media as fans and commentators discuss the balance between raising awareness of eating disorders and respecting personal boundaries.
