Pezeshkian says ‘now is the best time’ for Ira…

TEHRAN: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has described the current moment as the “best time” for reaching an agreement with the United States, while making clear that Tehran’s broader policy toward Washington has not changed.

Speaking to media representatives in Tehran on Sunday, Pezeshkian said the United States had been pushed toward negotiations and reconciliation with Iran, describing the development as a success for Tehran’s diplomacy.

His comments come amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States and growing international efforts to find a diplomatic way out of the crisis. Pezeshkian suggested that the present circumstances could provide an opportunity to move toward an agreement if Washington was prepared to meet its commitments.

The Iranian president accused the United States of failing to implement understandings reflected in an Islamabad memorandum and points jointly prepared by Iran and Oman. According to Pezeshkian, Washington’s failure to follow through on those commitments forced Tehran to respond.

He said Iran had established a special team to deal with the crisis and that the group was continuing its work.

“We are hopeful that Iran will move forward with dignity, determination and pride,” Pezeshkian said, stressing that Tehran would continue to protect what it considers its national interests.

Despite signaling openness to negotiations, Pezeshkian adopted a tough tone toward Washington. He described the United States as a “criminal” and “colonial” power and insisted that Iran’s policy toward Washington remained unchanged.

The president also warned against what he portrayed as attempts by the United States and Israel to weaken Iran from within.

According to Pezeshkian, military pressure and war had failed to force Tehran into submission. He argued that Washington and Israel could now seek to exploit divisions within Iranian society by encouraging internal disputes.

Pezeshkian urged Iranians to remain alert to what he described as such efforts, emphasizing that national unity was particularly important at the current stage.

He called on the Iranian public to stand together to safeguard the country’s security and defence capabilities.

The remarks underline the delicate balance in Tehran’s position: Iran appears willing to explore diplomacy while simultaneously maintaining its longstanding opposition to Washington’s policies.

Pezeshkian’s comments could therefore signal a possible opening for renewed diplomatic engagement, but any breakthrough is likely to depend on whether Iran and the United States can overcome deep mistrust and resolve disagreements over previous commitments.

For now, Tehran’s message is clear: the door to negotiations may be open, but Iran says it will enter those talks from a position of dignity, national unity and strength.

Ana de Armas sparks romance rumours with Beta Montenegro

Ana de Armas has sparked fresh romance rumours after being spotted enjoying a romantic getaway with Venezuelan singer Beta Montenegro in Spain, months after her reported relationship with Hollywood star Tom Cruise came to an end. The 38-year-old Cuban actress was recently photographed sharing affectionate moments with Montenegro during a trip to Formentera. Images circulating online showed the pair enjoying a relaxed beach outing while appearing comfortable and affectionate in each other’s company. The couple were reportedly seen holding hands and kissing as they made their way towards the beach. At one point, de Armas appeared to wrap her arms around Montenegro before sharing a kiss with him, further fuelling speculation that their relationship may have moved beyond friendship. For the sunny outing, the actress opted for a black-and-white patterned summer dress paired with simple flip-flops. Montenegro kept his look casual, wearing a white T-shirt, teal shorts and a green baseball cap. The latest sighting comes after de Armas and Montenegro were reportedly seen together several times in Madrid earlier this summer. Their appearances together began attracting attention, particularly after the pair were spotted attending a concert, where they were seen enjoying the music and dancing together. Montenegro is best known as the frontman of Venezuelan band Rawayana. The group, which was formed in 2007, has established itself as one of the prominent names in Latin alternative music. Rawayana has released six albums, with ¿Dónde es el after? being its latest release. The band also achieved a major career milestone in 2025 after winning the Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album, bringing further international attention to Montenegro and his musical career. De Armas’ latest romance speculation comes after her high-profile connection with Tom Cruise. The pair first attracted dating rumours in February 2025 after being spotted having dinner together in London around Valentine’s Day weekend. Their relationship reportedly continued for several months, with the pair being seen together on multiple occasions. However, reports later suggested that their romance ended in October 2025. According to reports at the time, de Armas had become uncomfortable with the speed at which the relationship was developing and how serious things were becoming. Since then, the actress has largely kept her personal life away from the spotlight. Her recent appearances with Montenegro, however, have once again placed her romantic life under public scrutiny. Neither de Armas nor Montenegro has publicly confirmed the nature of their relationship. For now, their affectionate beach outing and previous appearances together continue to fuel speculation that the two may be dating.::: Ana de Armas has sparked fresh romance rumours after being spotted enjoying a romantic getaway with Venezuelan singer Beta Montenegro in Spain, months after her reported relationship with Hollywood star Tom Cruise came to an end. LAHORE: Pakistani technology entrepreneur and cryptocurrency advocate Waqar Zaka has won the international WEEX TradFi Masters trading championship, outperforming more than 3,000 participants from across the globe in a solo multi-asset trading competition. The tournament challenged traders to compete independently using their own capital, without team support or referral incentives. Participants traded across stocks, commodities, precious metals and cryptocurrencies on a single platform, with performance measured on profitability and risk management. Zaka emerged as the overall winner after posting a 74 per cent return in just 20 days. Starting with an account of $100,000, he generated a profit of $74,000, increasing his portfolio value to $174,000. His performance placed him ahead of competitors from South Korea and China, who finished second and third with returns of 57 per cent and 35 per cent, respectively. As the champion, Zaka was awarded a brand-new 2026 Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon during a ceremony in Dubai. The organisers also acknowledged his achievement on their official social media platforms. The victory marks a significant milestone, making Zaka the first Pakistani trader to secure the top position in an international competition of this scale focused on both traditional financial markets and digital assets. His latest success also represents a remarkable improvement from the previous edition, where he finished among the top ten competitors. Organisers described the championship as a rigorous test of strategy, adaptability and disciplined decision-making in rapidly changing financial markets. The event reflects the growing popularity of competitive trading, where participants are increasingly recognised for their analytical skills and market expertise. Zaka has been a prominent advocate of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology in Pakistan for several years. He has consistently promoted wider adoption of digital assets and has previously urged policymakers to consider establishing a national Bitcoin reserve as part of the country’s long-term financial strategy. His latest international triumph has once again drawn attention to Pakistan’s growing presence in global financial and digital trading markets, highlighting the increasing integration of traditional finance with the cryptocurrency sector.

Kashmir activist and journalist released on bail after years in custody

Indian authorities have released Kashmiri human rights activist Khurram Parvez and journalist Irfan Mehraj on bail after they spent years in custody under terrorism related charges. Their families confirmed that both men were released from a prison in New Delhi late on Wednesday following a court order, although strict bail conditions will keep them in the capital while their trial continues. Parvez, a well known human rights defender and programme coordinator of the Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society, was arrested by India’s National Investigation Agency in November 2021 from his home in Srinagar. Mehraj, a freelance journalist who also worked with the same rights organisation, was arrested in 2023. Both men have been charged under India’s anti terrorism laws with allegedly financing terrorism and promoting separatist activities. The legislation allows authorities to detain suspects for long periods without trial and has frequently been criticised by rights organisations for its broad powers. Although they have now been granted bail, their freedom remains limited. Court conditions require both Parvez and Mehraj to stay in New Delhi during the legal proceedings. They are not permitted to return to Kashmir and must arrange their own accommodation in the capital while attending court hearings. Indian investigators had challenged the decision to grant bail, but a higher court upheld the order. The Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society has spent many years documenting alleged human rights violations in the region. The organisation has published reports on cases involving torture, unlawful killings, enforced disappearances, and unmarked graves in areas affected by the long running conflict. Its work has often drawn international attention and placed it at the centre of debates over human rights in Kashmir. Parvez has received support from several international human rights organisations that have repeatedly called for his release. In 2023, the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention described his arrest as retaliation for his human rights activities. The UN experts said the detention appeared intended to silence both Parvez and wider civil society efforts in Kashmir. The case has also renewed attention on press freedom in the region. Journalists working in Indian administered Kashmir have reported increasing restrictions, surveillance, and legal action since the Indian government revoked the region’s special constitutional status in 2019. Several media workers and activists say they have faced questioning, arrests, or pressure while reporting on political and security issues. The Indian government maintains that its actions are necessary to combat terrorism and protect national security. Officials argue that the anti terrorism laws are an essential tool in dealing with militant groups operating in the region. However, critics say the legislation has increasingly been used against journalists, activists, and civil society members who peacefully document human rights concerns. Government figures show that more than 3,600 people were arrested under anti terrorism laws in Kashmir between 2019 and 2023. More than half of those detained remain in prison while awaiting legal proceedings, highlighting concerns over lengthy pre trial detention. The release of Parvez and Mehraj has been welcomed by rights advocates, but legal proceedings against both men continue. They will remain in New Delhi under the conditions set by the court until their trial reaches its conclusion. Their cases are expected to remain closely watched by international human rights organisations and press freedom groups as they continue to raise concerns about civil liberties and legal protections in Indian administered Kashmir.

Murad rejects Naqvi’s proposal for new admin…

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has strongly rejected Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s proposal for creating new administrative units, calling it an outdated idea that the people of Sindh would never accept. Speaking to reporters in Bhit Shah on Friday, Murad said he had heard the interior minister’s statement but was unsure what exactly he was referring to. He said if Mohsin Naqvi believes the current governance system has failed, he is free to present proposals, but the idea of creating new administrative units is an old suggestion that has already been debated. The chief minister said Sindh is the land of Sufi traditions and its people would not support such a move. He stressed that any proposal affecting the province should reflect the will of its people. Murad also pointed out that different political parties are governing different parts of the country. He noted that Punjab is ruled by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Balochistan has a coalition government, Sindh is governed by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is under the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Commenting on the country’s youth, Murad said young people are Pakistan’s future and will lead the nation in the years ahead. He rejected any negative remarks about them, saying the youth are a valuable national asset and should be encouraged rather than criticised.
