LAHORE: Pakistani technology entrepreneur and cryptocurrency advocate Waqar Zaka has won the international WEEX TradFi Masters trading championship, outperforming more than 3,000 participants from across the globe in a solo multi-asset trading competition.

The tournament challenged traders to compete independently using their own capital, without team support or referral incentives. Participants traded across stocks, commodities, precious metals and cryptocurrencies on a single platform, with performance measured on profitability and risk management.

Zaka emerged as the overall winner after posting a 74 per cent return in just 20 days. Starting with an account of $100,000, he generated a profit of $74,000, increasing his portfolio value to $174,000. His performance placed him ahead of competitors from South Korea and China, who finished second and third with returns of 57 per cent and 35 per cent, respectively.

As the champion, Zaka was awarded a brand-new 2026 Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon during a ceremony in Dubai. The organisers also acknowledged his achievement on their official social media platforms.

The victory marks a significant milestone, making Zaka the first Pakistani trader to secure the top position in an international competition of this scale focused on both traditional financial markets and digital assets. His latest success also represents a remarkable improvement from the previous edition, where he finished among the top ten competitors.

Organisers described the championship as a rigorous test of strategy, adaptability and disciplined decision-making in rapidly changing financial markets. The event reflects the growing popularity of competitive trading, where participants are increasingly recognised for their analytical skills and market expertise.

Zaka has been a prominent advocate of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology in Pakistan for several years. He has consistently promoted wider adoption of digital assets and has previously urged policymakers to consider establishing a national Bitcoin reserve as part of the country’s long-term financial strategy.

His latest international triumph has once again drawn attention to Pakistan’s growing presence in global financial and digital trading markets, highlighting the increasing integration of traditional finance with the cryptocurrency sector.

According to sources, the CPL is scheduled to begin on Friday, with the tournament final set to be played on September 20. However, Pakistan players involved in the domestic National Champions Cup will not be released for overseas commitments until the competition concludes. The Champions Cup is being played in Multan from August 11 to 18, meaning the players selected for the tournament are expected to receive their CPL NOCs from the following day. Several Pakistan players have CPL contracts this season, including Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan, Usman Khan, Muaz Sadaqat, Naseem Shah and Sufiyan Muqeem. These players are also representing different teams in the Champions Cup, creating a scheduling clash between domestic and franchise cricket. The decision means the players will join their respective CPL franchises only after completing their domestic commitments. Meanwhile, Usman Tariq and Haseebullah Khan are also set to feature in the Caribbean tournament but are not part of the Champions Cup squad. Their availability is therefore not affected by the domestic competition in the same way. The NOC timeline has attracted attention because the CPL is an important opportunity for Pakistan players to gain experience in overseas franchise cricket. For the players involved, the challenge will now be to make a quick transition from domestic cricket in Multan to the Caribbean conditions. The Pakistan Cricket Board’s approach also underlines its emphasis on ensuring national players remain available for domestic competitions before taking part in overseas leagues.     ISLAMABAD: A joint symposium on “Xi Jinping Thought on Party Building” was held in Islamabad on Wednesday, bringing together senior Pakistani and Chinese officials, diplomats, parliamentarians, academics and representatives of think tanks to discuss China’s approach to political organisation, governance and institutional development. The symposium was organised by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Pakistan in collaboration with the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS). Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani attended the event as chief guest. The Chinese delegation included Liu Daxiu, Head of Delegation and First-Class Inspector at the Party Building Research Institute of the Organization Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and Zheng Huan, Professor of Party Building at the Central Party School of the CPC Central Committee. Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong also addressed the gathering. While adressing, Pakistani and Chinese representatives reaffirmed the longstanding partnership between the two countries, noting that political and institutional exchanges have expanded alongside cooperation in economic, infrastructure and development-related fields. They further added that dialogue between political parties has become an important pillar of the Pakistan-China strategic relationship. Speakers outlined the evolution of Xi Jinping Thought on Party Building, describing it as a doctrine centred on strengthening the Communist Party of China through disciplined leadership, rigorous internal governance, organisational cohesion and ideological development. They said the framework seeks to ensure the Party’s long-term capacity to govern while maintaining accountability, institutional resilience and public trust. CPC’s efforts to curb corruption and maintain discipline, while strengthening the organisation at different levels were also discussed. The recurring theme throughout the symposium was that China’s development should not be viewed solely through the lens of economic growth. Pakistani and Chinese speakers argued that the country’s transformation has also been shaped by strong political organisation, consistent policy implementation and institutional continuity. At the same time, Chinese experts stressed that these experiences were not being presented as a model for direct replication, noting that every country must pursue its own path according to its national circumstances. Participants also reflected on the broader relevance of the CPC’s experience for political parties worldwide, discussing issues such as governance capacity, organisational resilience, leadership development and the ability of institutions to translate policy into tangible results. Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gilani, Ambassador Jiang Zaidong and IRS President Jauhar Saleem affirmed the importance of sustained engagement between the two countries and welcomed continued exchanges on governance, public policy and institutional development. The symposium concluded with an interactive session in which participants discussed the relevance of Party building, leadership and governance reforms to contemporary political challenges and future Pakistan-China cooperation.

    Surjani Town recorded the highest rainfall in Karachi on Saturday as monsoon activity brought light to moderate showers to several parts of the city. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), similar weather conditions are expected to continue today and tomorrow, with cloudy skies and intermittent rainfall forecast across Karachi. The city experienced highly humid weather during the morning before low-level clouds covered most areas later in the day. Light drizzle and scattered showers were reported in several neighborhoods, while suburban areas including Surjani Town, Gulshan-e-Maymar, and Scheme 33 received light to moderate rainfall. Official rainfall data released by the PMD showed that Surjani Town recorded the highest rainfall at 4 millimeters. Gulshan-e-Maymar received 3.4 millimeters, while PAF Base Masroor recorded 2.3 millimeters. Gulshan-e-Hadeed registered the lowest rainfall among the monitored locations with 1.5 millimeters. PMD spokesperson and Deputy Director Anjum Nazir Zaigham said Karachi is expected to remain mostly cloudy through Sunday and Monday, with chances of thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rain. However, he clarified that the current weather system is not expected to produce heavy rainfall in the city. According to the department’s early warning update, the low-pressure weather system has weakened after previously developing into a depression. It is currently located over southeastern Rajasthan, India. Although the system has weakened, monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal continue to influence weather conditions across Pakistan’s central and northern regions. Meteorologists also noted that a separate western weather system is affecting the country’s northern areas and could strengthen further, bringing additional rainfall to upper and central parts of Pakistan in the coming days. Meanwhile, several districts of rural Sindh are expected to experience thunderstorms, gusty winds, and moderate to heavy rainfall due to ongoing monsoon activity. Authorities have warned that heavy downpours in some districts could trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas. The PMD reported that Karachi’s maximum temperature reached 35.8 degrees Celsius on Saturday, while humidity remained high at 72 percent, contributing to muggy conditions despite the rainfall. Residents have been advised to stay updated with official weather forecasts as monsoon conditions continue to evolve across the region.

The victim had initially fled her home in January during a school vacation to marry a man of her own choice, after which the couple relocated to Karachi to build a life together. Seeking to mend broken ties, the victim’s brother recently traveled to Karachi, brokered peace with the couple, and persuaded them to return. Upon their arrival in Gujar Khan, he arranged a rented house for the newlyweds. However, the promise of harmony shattered when the father visited the rented residence to check on his daughter. A heated argument broke out at the scene, culminating in the brother pulling out a handgun and opening fire on his sister in front of family members. Rawalpindi police have registered a murder case based on the father’s statement, and an investigation into the incident is currently underway to apprehend the suspect.
