Prosecution raises objections over Anmol Pinky cas…

Three drug-related cases involving accused Anmol Pinky came under discussion before the Judicial Magistrate South court, where the prosecution raised objections over deficiencies in the police challans.

Police had submitted interim charge sheets in all three cases to the prosecution for review. However, the Deputy District Public Prosecutor found several important details missing from the documents and returned them to the police with instructions to make the required corrections.

The prosecution pointed out that the interim challans did not contain any mention of proceedings to declare Anmol Pinky a proclaimed offender. The prosecutor directed police to provide complete details of the legal proceedings related to her status and incorporate them into the revised challans.

Another objection concerned accused persons who had already been acquitted in the cases. According to the prosecution, the police challans failed to provide details about those acquittals.

The police were therefore instructed to attach copies of the relevant acquittal orders to the case records so that the challans contain complete information about all accused persons and the outcome of proceedings against them.

The prosecutor directed the investigating authorities to address all the objections before resubmitting the documents. The revised interim challans will be presented to the prosecution after the required amendments and additional records have been included.

The development comes as legal proceedings continue in the three drug cases against Anmol Pinky. The prosecution’s objections mean that the interim challans have not yet been accepted in their submitted form and must first be corrected according to the instructions issued by the prosecutor.

It also approved the establishment of a Provincial Parole Board on the recommendation of the Home Department. A new police station was approved for Hub Marble City. The move is aimed at improving security in the growing industrial and commercial area. The cabinet also approved a Service Level Agreement for the Quetta Safe City Project. The project will support the expansion of modern surveillance systems and technology-based policing in the provincial capital. Several decisions were also taken to strengthen local government institutions. Union Council Mesi Zai and Union Council Mai Zai were upgraded to municipal committees. The cabinet also approved a new Municipal Committee in Gulistan. The measures are intended to improve administrative services and strengthen local governance. For improved planning of development schemes, the cabinet approved the Balochistan Planning Manual. The meeting also endorsed the Balochistan Child Protection Rules 2026. The rules are aimed at strengthening safeguards for children and improving their welfare across the province. The cabinet approved amendments to the Balochistan Cadet Colleges Act 2026. It also extended the contract of the prosecutor general for another two years. Another major decision involved approval of the Balochistan Hybrid Weighted Procurement Policy 2026. The policy is intended to improve transparency and efficiency in government procurement. The cabinet also approved a financing proposal for the Harnai-Sibi Road Project. Other decisions included approval of the Gwadar Development Authority Service Rules 2024 and the creation of a new tehsil and subdivision in Nasirabad district. Officials said the administrative changes would help improve public service delivery and make development planning more effective. The meeting began with prayers for security personnel and civilians who lost their lives in recent incidents. Cabinet members paid tribute to those who died and expressed sympathy with their families. Speaking at the meeting, Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said his government was focused on improving law and order across Balochistan.

While discussing NEPRA, Senator Aimal Wali Khan stated that the Chairman NEPRA had remained ill only a few weeks after his appointment and was not attending office regularly, yet continued receiving his full salary. He questioned whether public funds should continue to be spent on positions where official duties are not being performed and demanded accountability regarding the matter. The committee took note of the concerns raised by Senator Aimal Wali Khan and discussed the importance of transparency and responsibility in government institutions. During the wider discussion on public sector appointments and governance issues, Senator Aimal Wali Khan criticised the practice of keeping individuals in important positions despite their inability to perform official duties. He remarked that some people continue holding positions even when they are unable to actively carry out responsibilities, raising questions about institutional efficiency and accountability. The committee stressed that senior positions in government bodies must be linked with performance, transparency and public responsibility.     Khuzdar triple murder rocks Balochistan Assembly

    The alleged murder of a young woman’s fiancé, uncle and father in Balochistan’s Khuzdar district over a marriage dispute echoed in the Balochistan Assembly, where lawmakers demanded the immediate arrest of the main suspect. During the assembly session chaired by Speaker Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, Provincial Minister Ali Madad Jatak informed the house that the suspect allegedly killed the woman’s fiancé after his marriage proposal was rejected. He said the victim’s uncle was also murdered, while the woman was allegedly abducted before being recovered by police. According to the minister, the woman’s father was later shot dead after her video statement highlighting security threats surfaced on social media. Jatak told the assembly that despite two days having passed since the father’s killing, a first information report (FIR) had not yet been registered. He expressed concern over the delay in legal proceedings and called for immediate action against the accused. Opposition Leader Younis Zehri warned that if the suspect was not arrested, the provincial chief minister and the home minister would be held responsible. In protest over the lack of progress, both Zehri and Provincial Minister Ali Madad Jatak staged a walkout from the assembly. Member of the Provincial Assembly Maulana Hidayatur Rehman also voiced serious concern over the incident and demanded the resignation of the provincial home minister. He claimed that those responsible for the crime were widely known and criticised the prevailing law and order situation in the province.     Sindh plans PPP model to transform Keti Bandar into deep-sea port and economic hub

    KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed the provincial Investment Department to urgently formulate a comprehensive public-private partnership (PPP) framework for transforming Keti Bandar into a modern deep-sea port and a major commercial, industrial and energy centre. The directive was issued during a meeting held at the Chief Minister’s House on Saturday, where officials discussed a broader plan to develop Sindh’s coastal belt and unlock the economic potential of the Indus Delta. The proposed project is being planned in line with the vision associated with Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and aims to establish Keti Bandar as an important maritime gateway connecting port operations with industrial, logistics, fisheries and energy-related activities. Integrated economic corridor planned Chairing the meeting, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said Keti Bandar should be developed as part of an integrated maritime and economic corridor rather than as a standalone port project. He directed the relevant departments to prepare detailed proposals covering port infrastructure, industrial estates, transportation and logistics networks, fisheries, energy facilities and tourism. The chief minister also called for a phased implementation strategy that would identify the project’s immediate, medium-term and long-term development requirements. According to the proposed plan, the Keti Bandar Integrated Corridor would become a major engine for economic activity, employment generation and investment in Sindh. The project is also expected to provide a platform for attracting domestic and foreign investors to the province’s coastal areas. PPP framework to attract private investment The Sindh government intends to develop the project through a PPP model, allowing private-sector investors to participate in financing, construction, development and operation of various components. Under the proposed framework, Keti Bandar could eventually host a deep-sea port alongside logistics and warehousing facilities, industrial zones, energy infrastructure, fisheries-related businesses and tourism projects. The government believes that bringing private capital and expertise into the development process could help accelerate infrastructure construction while reducing the immediate financial burden on the provincial government. Officials have been directed to develop an investment-oriented model that clearly identifies potential projects, financing requirements, revenue opportunities and possible areas of private-sector participation. $1 billion to $2.5 billion investment potential According to the Sindh budget 2026-27, the proposed Keti Bandar Maritime, Fisheries and Petroleum Economic Corridor has an estimated investment potential of between $1 billion and $2.5 billion. The planned corridor would include a modern fishing harbour, seafood processing and export facilities, petroleum-handling terminals, logistics infrastructure and industrial support zones. The development of seafood-processing facilities is expected to create opportunities for value addition and increase the potential for exports from Sindh’s coastal areas. Similarly, improved port and logistics infrastructure could facilitate the movement of goods and provide industries with better access to domestic and international markets. Keti Bandar as future energy gateway Chief Minister Shah has also instructed officials to explore the potential of Keti Bandar as a future energy gateway. The proposed energy infrastructure would include facilities for the import and handling of LNG, RLNG and LPG, along with other supporting infrastructure required for energy-related operations. The development of such facilities could allow Keti Bandar to play a role in meeting future energy requirements while creating opportunities for investment in storage, transportation and related industries. A feasibility study has already identified approximately 4,000 acres of land for the proposed development. Officials have been asked to incorporate the identified land into the broader planning process and determine the infrastructure requirements for different components of the corridor. Focus on coastal and industrial development The proposed project is expected to have a broader impact beyond port operations. The provincial government plans to combine maritime infrastructure with industrial development, logistics, fisheries, energy and tourism to create an integrated economic zone. The Indus Delta and surrounding coastal areas have significant potential for fisheries and other maritime activities, but inadequate infrastructure has historically limited their commercial development. The government believes that modern transport links, processing facilities, storage infrastructure and port connectivity could help unlock this potential and generate new employment opportunities for local communities. The development of tourism facilities is also being considered as part of the wider strategy, with officials tasked with identifying suitable investment opportunities along the coastal belt. Long-term economic vision The proposed Keti Bandar project forms part of Sindh’s broader ambition to strengthen its position as a maritime and logistics centre in the region. The provincial government aims to use the coastline’s strategic location to attract investment, expand trade-related infrastructure and promote industrial activity. For the plan to succeed, however, authorities will need to complete detailed feasibility studies, establish an effective PPP structure, address infrastructure and connectivity requirements and ensure that environmental and coastal considerations are incorporated into the development process. The chief minister has directed the Investment Department and other relevant agencies to move quickly on the project and prepare a comprehensive roadmap. If successfully implemented, the Keti Bandar Integrated Corridor could transform the coastal area into a major maritime gateway while creating new opportunities in port operations, logistics, fisheries, energy, manufacturing and tourism.

    US senator demands answers over USS Abraham Lincoln deployment

    WASHINGTON: US Senator Richard Blumenthal has called on the Pentagon to explain why the USS Abraham Lincoln has remained at sea for more than 250 days, raising concerns about the health, safety and readiness of thousands of sailors and Marines aboard the aircraft carrier. Blumenthal, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, sent a letter to Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and Acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao seeking detailed information about the carrier’s prolonged deployment. The senator said the USS Abraham Lincoln left Naval Base San Diego on November 21, 2025, for what was originally expected to be a seven-month mission. Its deployment was scheduled to end in May but has since been extended, with no publicly announced date for its return. According to Blumenthal, the carrier has spent more than 200 consecutive days without a port visit, setting a record for the length of time it has remained at sea without such a stop. The prolonged deployment has triggered concerns about conditions aboard the carrier, including reported shortages of basic supplies, water contamination, plumbing problems and difficulties with mail deliveries. Blumenthal also raised concerns about the mental health and morale of crew members, as well as deck safety and general living conditions. He said reports of fatigue, deferred maintenance and limited opportunities for rest could increase the risks faced by personnel working aboard an aircraft carrier. The USS Abraham Lincoln carries around 5,000 sailors and Marines and operates in an environment involving aircraft, fuel, weapons, heavy machinery and complex electrical systems. Blumenthal warned that prolonged exposure to these conditions could create additional safety risks if crews are exhausted or equipment maintenance is delayed. The senator asked the Pentagon to provide information about reported habitability problems aboard the carrier, including issues involving hygiene supplies, mould, toilets, laundry facilities and water systems. He also requested details about the Navy’s measures for monitoring crew fatigue, morale, mental health and operational readiness. Blumenthal wants officials to disclose whether the extended deployment has been linked to increases in safety incidents, medical problems or disciplinary cases. Reports cited by US military publications have also described incidents in which sailors aboard the carrier allegedly attempted to go overboard during its prolonged deployment, intensifying concerns about the psychological pressure on personnel. The senator has asked the Navy to explain what measures are being taken to address such concerns and protect the wellbeing of the crew. The extended deployment comes as the United States continues military operations and maintains a significant naval presence connected to tensions involving Iran and the wider Middle East. Blumenthal questioned the Pentagon about the strategic purpose of keeping the carrier deployed for such an extended period. He asked officials to explain the military objectives linked to the Lincoln’s continued presence in the region and how the Navy determines whether the carrier remains operationally necessary. The senator also sought details about every extension of the carrier’s deployment, including who approved the extensions and what operational requirements were cited. He further questioned whether the Navy’s existing fleet structure and deployment system can maintain the current demand for aircraft carriers without undermining crew welfare, equipment readiness and future maintenance requirements. Blumenthal warned that maintaining a high operational tempo for an extended period could create a readiness problem in the future if the impact on personnel and equipment is not properly addressed.
