Pattaya Launches Open House Film Event to Advance UNESCO Creative City of Film Bid

Pattaya, Thailand – On August 8th, 2026, Chonburi Provincial Governor Naris Niramaiwong presided over the opening of the “Awakening the Power of Creative City, People Making Films: Open House Film” activity. The event forms part of the project to elevate Pattaya toward becoming a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of film (Pattaya Creative City of Film) and a hub for the ASEAN film industry.

Deputy Mayor of Pattaya City Damrongkiat Pinijkarn joined the ceremony at the Fountain Activity Area on the ground floor of Royal Garden Plaza Pattaya. Attendees included the Assistant Secretary to the Mayor of Pattaya, representatives from government agencies and the private sector, film industry operators, distinguished guests, and members of the media.

The event featured exhibitions showing Pattaya’s journey toward becoming a Creative City of Film, along with knowledge-sharing displays from five provinces. Activities included DIY arts and culture workshops, cultural performances, and a screening of the short film “Films Still Give Rise to Wisdom,” designed at promoting learning and inspiring participants.

Seminars by experts and film industry professionals covered the topics “Opening the Door to the Global Film Industry: Pattaya, City of Opportunities and Creativity” and “In-Depth Behind the Scenes of Filmmaking in the Area and the Direction of the Creative Economy.” The program also included screenings of award-winning short films, interactive discussions with prize giveaways, and a seminar titled “From Location to a Comprehensive Film Industry: The Power of Thai Filmmakers.” Directors, producers, entrepreneurs, and local film production networks shared their experiences and perspectives on developing Thailand’s film industry.

The activity is part of Pattaya’s commitment to advancing the film industry and creative economy in concrete ways. It seeks to build networks among the public sector, private sector, and civil society to elevate Pattaya as a UNESCO Creative City of Film and an ASEAN film industry center. These efforts are expected to support sustainable tourism, investment, and economic development in the city.
