Russia calls for immediate end to Yemen blockade

UNITED NATIONS: Russia has called for the immediate and complete lifting of the maritime and land blockade imposed on Yemen, urging an end to restrictions on the delivery of food, medicines and other essential supplies.

Speaking at the United Nations Security Council, Russian representative Yulia Zhdanova blamed the United States and Israel for contributing to the growing tensions surrounding Yemen, according to Arab media reports.

Zhdanova said restrictions affecting the movement of humanitarian supplies should be removed to prevent further suffering among Yemen’s population. She stressed that civilians should not bear the consequences of the wider regional conflict.

The Russian diplomat also argued that the prolonged deadlock in Yemen’s peace process had created conditions in which the Houthis became increasingly drawn into the regional confrontation.

Moscow urged the immediate resumption of peace negotiations, saying there was no lasting military solution to the conflict.

Zhdanova said a political settlement could only be achieved through dialogue involving Yemen’s key political forces. She called for the legitimate interests of all major stakeholders, including the Houthis, to be taken into account during negotiations.

Russia’s appeal comes as Yemen remains caught in a wider regional crisis, with concerns growing over humanitarian access and the disruption of essential supplies.

Moscow said renewed diplomacy and an inclusive political process were necessary to move Yemen towards lasting peace and reduce the risk of further escalation.

Dallas marks Arbaeen with peaceful mourning procession

The Arbaeen of Imam Hussain (AS) and the martyrs of Karbala was observed with deep reverence in Dallas, Texas, as hundreds of mourners gathered for religious congregations and a peaceful procession to commemorate the 40th day after Ashura. The main gathering was held at the Alam Centre, where religious scholar Maulana Qasim Zaidi spoke about the lasting significance of Karbala. He said the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS) continues to inspire people around the world by promoting the values of justice, truth, courage and resistance against oppression. After the religious address, participants joined a central Arbaeen procession through downtown Dallas. Mourners carried traditional Alams and symbolic Taboots while reciting elegies, performing matam and offering prayers in memory of the martyrs of Karbala. Renowned reciters Shuja Haider and Kashif Jafri led the Nauha recitations during the procession. Families, children and members of the local Shia community took part in the event, which was held in a peaceful and organised atmosphere. The conclusion of Arbaeen marked the end of the traditional 40-day mourning period that begins with Ashura. However, participants said the message of Imam Hussain (AS) remains a timeless source of guidance, encouraging people to uphold justice, sacrifice and steadfastness in the face of injustice. Organisers thanked volunteers, community members and law enforcement authorities for ensuring the event was conducted safely and smoothly. They said the successful observance reflected the community’s dedication to preserving and passing on the teachings and legacy of Karbala to future generations.

Colombia’s death toll from earthquake climbs…

Rescue crews continue combing through collapsed buildings across western Colombia after a powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck the region on Monday, August 10, with officials confirming the death toll has risen to at least 164 people. Authorities said more than 880 people have sustained injuries, while over 3,200 remain unaccounted for as soldiers, emergency responders and local volunteers work through debris from dozens of collapsed structures. Thousands of residents have been forced from their homes since the quake struck, adding to the scale of the humanitarian response now underway. The earthquake flattened multi story buildings in cities including Pereira and Cali, and severely damaged one of the towers of a historic cathedral in Manizales. The tremor originated at an intermediate depth with its epicenter located near San José del Palmar in the western department of Chocó, causing widespread destruction across Pereira, Cali, Manizales and other communities in Colombia’s coffee growing region. Residential buildings, hospitals, schools and key infrastructure, including several regional airports, all suffered severe damage in the quake. At one city hospital, several upper floors, including sections dedicated to pediatric care, collapsed inward, trapping some patients inside and forcing hospital staff to treat roughly 600 additional patients outdoors on a street littered with debris, according to hospital director Irne Torres Castro, who spoke to a Colombian television network. That same city saw some of the earthquake’s most extensive destruction, with entire residential blocks reduced to piles of concrete and twisted metal. Video circulating online captured buildings shaking violently as residents fled into the streets, while separate footage showed a regional airport swaying dramatically during the quake as large sections of ceiling came down around people sheltering inside. Among the most widely shared images online is footage showing the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary shaking and partially collapsing. The cathedral, built in the 1920s, holds the distinction of being Colombia’s tallest cathedral and ranks among the highest neo Gothic churches anywhere in the Americas. The disaster struck just days after Abelardo De La Espriella was sworn in as Colombia’s president, immediately confronting his new administration with a major crisis. The earthquake also comes with memories still fresh of a pair of devastating earthquakes that struck neighboring Venezuela in June. Colombia’s national government has declared a state of emergency and mobilized the military, police and specialized rescue units to lead recovery operations, while accepting offers of international assistance as the search for survivors continues. The disaster adds to a string of major seismic events across the region in recent months, underscoring the ongoing vulnerability of Andean nations to powerful earthquakes and the strain such disasters place on emergency infrastructure even in areas with established disaster response systems.

A$AP Rocky explains why he believes Kanye West was…

A$AP Rocky has made headlines after opening up about his relationship with Kanye West and explaining why he believes the rapper once felt jealous of the close creative bond he shared with the late fashion visionary Virgil Abloh. During a recent appearance on The Jason Lee Show, Rocky reflected on his early years in music and fashion, discussing how Abloh played a major role in shaping his artistic identity. The rapper claimed that Kanye’s attitude changed after seeing how closely he and Abloh were collaborating on creative projects. (Reddit) According to Rocky, Abloh worked on several of his projects without expecting payment, including designing album artwork, contributing to tour concepts, and helping develop his creative direction. Rocky suggested that this close partnership may have sparked feelings of jealousy in Kanye, who had long been associated with Abloh in both music and fashion. (Reddit) Despite the comments, Rocky made it clear that he still respects Kanye’s influence on modern culture. He praised the rapper as one of the industry’s biggest innovators, saying artists of his generation benefited from the doors Kanye helped open. However, Rocky also acknowledged that he does not agree with everything Kanye says or does, emphasizing that admiration does not mean unconditional support. (Complex) Virgil Abloh and Kanye West shared one of the most influential creative partnerships in contemporary culture. Before becoming the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear division, Abloh worked closely with Kanye on album visuals, stage design, fashion projects, and the Yeezy brand. Their collaboration helped reshape the relationship between music and luxury fashion. When Abloh died from a rare form of cancer in 2021, Kanye publicly honored his longtime friend by dedicating one of his Sunday Service gatherings to the late designer. In later interviews, Kanye also admitted that he had experienced feelings of jealousy over Abloh’s appointment at Louis Vuitton, describing it as both painful and emotional. (Yahoo News) Rocky’s latest remarks have reignited conversations about the complex relationships between three of fashion and hip-hop’s most influential figures. While some fans believe his comments simply provide additional context to a long-discussed story, others argue that they reopen old wounds surrounding Abloh’s legacy. So far, Kanye West has not publicly responded to Rocky’s claims. The rapper has remained silent on social media regarding the interview, leaving fans to speculate whether he will eventually address the remarks. Although the comments have generated significant online debate, Rocky repeatedly emphasized that he holds no ill will toward Kanye. Instead, he chose to recognize the late Virgil Abloh’s lasting influence on both his career and the broader creative industry. As fans continue to reflect on Abloh’s remarkable legacy, the discussion serves as another reminder of the profound impact he had on music, fashion, and culture around the world.

    Goods transporters announce indefinite strike

The All Pakistan Goods Transporters Alliance has announced an indefinite nationwide strike after talks with the federal and Sindh governments failed to resolve their demands. Alliance President Malik Shehzad Awan made the announcement at a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, saying transporters would keep their vehicles off the roads from August 8 until the government formally accepted their demands through official notifications. Awan said a meeting held on Friday included senior officials from both the federal and Sindh governments, including the communications minister, communications secretary, National Highway Authority chairman, inspector general of motorways, Karachi commissioner, transport secretary, excise secretary and senior traffic officials. However, the talks failed to produce an agreement. He said the alliance would observe a peaceful wheel-jam strike by parking trucks and trailers instead of blocking roads. However, he warned that transporters could move their vehicles onto roads if authorities tried to intimidate or arrest their leaders during the protest. According to Awan, vehicles carrying import and export containers will continue operating until August 10 to allow cargo already in transit to reach its destinations. The transporters have also formed a committee to negotiate with the government. Awan warned that if their demands were not accepted within two days, the protesters would march towards the governor houses in all provinces. He said the committee would not negotiate with officials who had previously made commitments to transporters but failed to fulfil them. Awan also called for the resignation of the federal petroleum minister, Punjab’s transport and mass transit minister and the Punjab senior minister. Highlighting the financial pressure on the transport sector, he claimed that a single trailer pays around Rs2.4 million in annual toll taxes while transporters also face e-challans, adding to their difficulties. He warned that the ongoing dispute could negatively affect the national economy and urged the government to take immediate steps to resolve the crisis. Other transport leaders, including Malik Sher Khan, Ghulam Yasin and Nadeem Akhtar Arain, also attended the press conference. Meanwhile, the All Pakistan Petrol Pumps Owners Association urged the Ministry of Petroleum to review the mechanism used to determine fuel prices. In a letter sent to the petroleum minister on August 7, the association’s vice chairman expressed concern over delays in implementing agreements reached between the government and petrol pump owners.

What led Perez Hilton to contact Britney Spears an…

Perez Hilton reportedly reached out to several celebrities to make amends for his past treatment of them before his recent mental health crisis. Among those he contacted were Britney Spears and Khloé Kardashian, two stars who had been the subject of his celebrity coverage during his years as one of Hollywood’s most controversial gossip bloggers. The revelations came from an interview with Sean Hannity that was recorded on July 14 and released on August 6, just days after Hilton was hospitalized following a distressing TikTok livestream. Hilton discussed his efforts to repair relationships and take responsibility for his past behavior. (Page Six) Hilton wanted to make amends During the interview, Hilton explained that he had privately contacted a number of people he believed he had wronged. His outreach to Spears and Kardashian was part of what he described as a personal effort to confront his past. Hilton said he had reached out to Spears through an intermediary. While he indicated that Spears did not directly respond to him, he appeared to accept that she was not obligated to do so. His experience with Khloé Kardashian was different. Hilton said he contacted Kardashian privately and received a kind response from her. He also acknowledged that some people he contacted did not respond, adding that he understood and respected their decision. (Page Six) A change in Hilton’s approach The outreach appears to be connected to Hilton’s broader reflection on his career. During the interview, he acknowledged that his earlier approach to celebrity coverage could be cruel and invasive. Hilton became famous for mocking celebrities’ appearances, commenting on their private lives and pushing boundaries in his coverage. In recent years, however, he has spoken more openly about changing his approach. He told Hannity that he realized he could still be entertaining without being unnecessarily harsh. He also discussed the idea of “counsel culture,” a concept associated with encouraging people to learn from their mistakes rather than permanently defining them by those mistakes. (Page Six) Hilton’s hospitalization On August 4, Hilton was hospitalized in Miami after authorities responded to reports concerning a serious mental health crisis during a TikTok livestream. His family later confirmed that he was receiving medical care and was able to communicate. They asked the public to respect his privacy while he recovers. (People.com) The timing of Hilton’s reconciliation efforts has drawn attention because they came shortly before the incident. However, there is no confirmed evidence that his conversations with Spears or Kardashian caused or directly influenced what happened. Instead, his comments suggest that Hilton had already been reflecting on his past and attempting to repair relationships. His outreach to former targets shows a public figure confronting the consequences of his earlier work while trying to move forward in a different direction. For now, Hilton’s family says the focus remains on his recovery and well-being.
