Thai-British Teen, 16, Terrified After Former Friend Allegedly Throws Explosive Object at Family Home in Huai Yai

A 16-year-old Thai-British boy and his family were left shaken after a former friend allegedly lit an object resembling a firecracker and threw it toward their house, causing a loud explosion late on the night of August 13th, 2026.
At around 10:06 p.m., Ms. Yothaka (surname withheld), 42, brought her son to Huai Yai Police Station to report the incident to Police Lieutenant Junior Grade Phonsan Chaichali, deputy investigation inspector. The family submitted closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage as evidence.
According to Ms. Yothaka, the family was eating dinner inside their home when they suddenly heard a deafening explosion near the front of the house. Her son ran inside in panic. Reviewing the CCTV recordings, they identified a young man, a former friend of her son with whom he had previously had conflicts, approaching the property, lighting an object that looked like a firecracker, and throwing it toward the house before fleeing.
The 16-year-old boy, referred to as “Bee” (a pseudonym), said he noticed a man standing in front of the house just before the blast but did not recognize him at first. When the sudden explosion occurred, he ran inside for help. He later confirmed the suspect was an old schoolmate. Their past issues included verbal taunting, bullying, online harassment through comments, and previous incidents in which the individual had shouted insults outside their home, even though Bee said he had not provoked any confrontation.
The family expressed significant fear over the incident, noting that the individual had dared to approach their residence and throw an explosive object. They urged police to swiftly identify and arrest the suspect to prevent any further escalation.
Police Colonel Warawut Nittayawan, superintendent of Huai Yai Police Station, ordered officers to examine the scene and instructed the investigation team to analyze the CCTV footage and track down the suspect for legal proceedings.
