In the video, Adeyemi revealed that one of the most painful moments came after visiting the film’s set. She said the experience left her overwhelmed with emotion, claiming she was “hyperventilating and sobbing” after leaving the production. According to the author, several people witnessed the incident, making it something she says was known to others involved. She said she returned to the United States struggling with severe anxiety, including panic attacks and physical symptoms that she believes were brought on by intense stress. The author described the experience as one of the most difficult chapters of her professional career, saying it remains the hardest situation she has ever had to face. While she did not go into detail about the specific circumstances that led to her reaction, she suggested that events surrounding the adaptation deeply affected her. Adeyemi also explained why she chose to speak publicly now. She said that as promotional efforts for the film continue, including the release of its first trailer, she felt it was important to share her side of the story. According to the author, she continues to experience challenges behind the scenes and believes that people should be aware of what she says happened during the adaptation process. She stated that the ongoing promotion of the film, combined with what she described as continued antagonism, convinced her that remaining silent was no longer the right decision. Ireland tightens security for Afghanistan ODI seri…

Cricket Ireland has confirmed that extensive security arrangements have been put in place for the upcoming five-match One-Day International (ODI) series against Afghanistan amid concerns over possible protests during the fixtures. The series, scheduled to begin on August 5, has attracted criticism from campaigners over the treatment of women in Afghanistan under the Taliban regime. According to a BBC Sport report, Cricket Ireland is working closely with all relevant stakeholders, including the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), to ensure the safety of players, officials, spectators and staff throughout the series. In a statement to BBC Sport, Cricket Ireland said: “Appropriate security measures are in place, and all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the safety and security of players, supporters, officials and staff.” The governing body has faced criticism for agreeing to host Afghanistan despite growing calls from some politicians and activists to boycott matches involving the Afghan men’s team because women and girls remain barred from playing cricket in the country. The PSNI also confirmed that a comprehensive policing plan has been prepared in anticipation of potential demonstrations at the venues. Police stressed that while peaceful protest is a protected right, public safety and the rights of others must also be respected. A PSNI spokesperson said: “The right to freedom of speech and peaceful assembly are fundamental human rights. They are protected in law and allow individuals to engage in peaceful protest.” The spokesperson added: “However, these rights are limited by the need to uphold the rights of others, protect public health and safety, minimise disruption to normal life and by the need to prevent and detect crime.” Police further warned that action would be taken if any protest crossed legal boundaries or created an unacceptable impact on others. The spokesperson said: “If the Police Service identifies potential criminal offences, or unacceptable impact on the rights of others, we will take lawful and proportionate action.” Despite the controversy surrounding the series, Cricket Ireland has indicated that preparations will continue as planned, with organisers focused on ensuring the matches are staged in a safe and secure environment. The governing body has not announced any changes to the schedule. The five-match ODI series will begin at Bready Cricket Club, which will host the opening two matches before the action shifts to Stormont for the remaining three fixtures. The full schedule is as follows: • 1st ODI: August 5 – Bready • 2nd ODI: August 7 – Bready • 3rd ODI: August 10 – Stormont • 4th ODI: August 12 – Stormont • 5th ODI: August 15 – Stormont The series remains significant for both teams as they continue preparations for future ICC events. While the focus on the field will be on cricket, organisers are also preparing for possible demonstrations outside the venues. Cricket Ireland and the PSNI have reiterated that security remains their top priority and that appropriate measures are in place to ensure the series proceeds safely while respecting the legal right to peaceful protest.

UN extends Volker Turk’s term as Rights Chief

The United Nations General Assembly has approved a second four-year term for UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk. The decision was made despite strong opposition from the United States, Russia and Israel. The 193-member General Assembly voted overwhelmingly in favour of the extension. A total of 144 countries voted for the proposal. Ten opposed it, while 13 abstained. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had proposed Turk for another full term. His current term is due to end in October. The vote came amid growing tensions between Washington and the United Nations. The US administration has reduced funding for several UN agencies. It has also withdrawn from a number of UN bodies. Washington had asked the General Assembly to delay the vote. US officials said more time was needed for consultations and review. The United States also warned that it could reconsider its relationship with the UN if the proposal was approved. US Representative for UN Management and Reform Jeff Bartos criticised the process before the vote. He said the decision did not allow enough time for discussion and oversight by member states. Bartos warned that the US could reassess its engagement, participation and funding of the United Nations. Despite the warning, most member states supported Turk. The European Union backed the extension. Several African and Latin American countries also voted in favour. China supported the proposal as well. Russia strongly opposed Turk’s reappointment. Russian Deputy Ambassador to the UN Dmitry Chumakov accused the rights chief of bias against Moscow. He also criticised Turk for making what Russia described as unfounded allegations against the country. Russia had proposed a shorter extension for Turk. Its plan would have kept him in the position only until the end of 2026. The General Assembly rejected that proposal by a large majority. Israel also opposed the decision. The Israeli Foreign Ministry criticised Guterres’ proposal and said the decision should have been left to the next UN secretary-general. Turk has faced criticism from several powerful countries because of his strong position on human rights issues. He has criticised Russia’s war in Ukraine. He has also raised concerns about Israel’s actions in Gaza. Turk has further called for investigations into deaths involving people held in US immigration custody. Human rights organisations have defended his position. They say the UN human rights chief must be able to challenge powerful countries when fundamental freedoms are threatened. The position has become increasingly important as conflicts and restrictions on civil liberties continue in different parts of the world. Turk is an Austrian lawyer. He has worked with the United Nations for decades. His UN career has included senior positions in Geneva. He has also served in field locations, including Kosovo. With the General Assembly’s latest decision, Turk will become the first UN human rights chief to serve two complete four-year terms. His reappointment is likely to keep human rights at the centre of international debate. It may also further test relations between the United Nations and countries that have opposed his approach.

    10 India-backed terrorists killed in security oper…

At least 10 terrorists affiliated with the India-backed group Fitna al-Hindustan were killed during an exchange of fire with security forces in Balochistan’s Khuzdar district, according to security sources. The sources said the operation was launched in the Shor Parod mountainous region after intelligence reports indicated the presence of militants linked to Fitna al-Hindustan, which Pakistani authorities describe as an Indian proxy group. During the operation, security personnel engaged the militants in an intense exchange of fire. At least 10 terrorists were killed, while several others sustained injuries, according to the security sources. The operation was carried out as part of ongoing efforts to counter militant activity in the province. Security officials reiterated their resolve to continue intelligence-based and targeted operations against terrorist groups until the threat of terrorism is eliminated from the country. They said security forces would remain vigilant and take action against militants involved in attacks and other violent activities. The latest development comes three days after another major security operation in Balochistan in which at least eight terrorists affiliated with Fitna al-Hindustan were killed following the premature detonation of a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED). According to security officials, the explosive device detonated while the militants were reportedly preparing it in Surab district. The premature blast killed several terrorists and disrupted what was believed to be an attempt to prepare an attack. Security forces subsequently launched an operation in the area. During the operation, personnel detected the movement of terrorists who were attempting to flee from the area. The security forces pursued the militants and killed 10 of them, according to officials. The incidents highlight the continuing security challenges faced by Balochistan, which has witnessed repeated militant attacks and counterterrorism operations in recent years. Pakistan has experienced a significant increase in terrorist activity, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan, since 2021, when the Afghan Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan. Both provinces have remained major areas of concern for Pakistani security authorities because of the frequency and intensity of militant attacks. According to a report published by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), KP and Balochistan continued to be the country’s primary hotspots for violence during the second quarter of 2026. The report identified Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as the worst-affected region during the period. It said the two provinces together accounted for nearly 96% of all violence-related fatalities recorded across Pakistan during the quarter. Of the total number of deaths reported, more than 61%, or 475 fatalities, occurred in KP. Balochistan recorded 265 deaths, accounting for approximately 34% of the total. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also registered the highest number of violent incidents during the quarter. According to the CRSS report, the province recorded 151 incidents, representing 57% of all such incidents reported nationwide. Balochistan followed with 94 violent incidents, making up around 35% of the national total. The figures underline the concentration of militant activity and violence in the two provinces. Security forces have continued conducting operations in both regions to disrupt militant networks, prevent planned attacks and target individuals involved in terrorism. The latest operation in Khuzdar is part of these continuing counterterrorism efforts.
