Marvel unveils star-studded ‘X-Men’ cast, sets 2028 release

“X-Men” is officially gearing up for its big-screen return, arriving with a star-studded new cast. Marvel Studios ended months of speculation with a major announcement on Friday, August 14.

At Disney’s D23 event, studio president Kevin Feige revealed the full casting lineup alongside the film’s official release date. The announcement marks the MCU’s first-ever standalone “X-Men” film.

During Marvel’s segment of the Disney Entertainment Showcase, cast members took to the stage together, sparking immediate excitement among fans in attendance. Jake Schreier has been confirmed to direct the highly anticipated project.

The newly announced cast includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey and Kit Connor as Cyclops. Christopher Abbott joins as Professor X, while Inde Navarrette takes on the role of Rogue.

Rounding out the ensemble, Maya Boyd will play Storm and Samara Weaving steps into the role of Emma Frost. Adam Driver was also confirmed for the film, playing Nathaniel Milbury, better known as the villainous Mr Sinister.

Alongside the cast reveal, the studio confirmed “X-Men” will hit theatres on May 5, 2028. The announcement represents a major milestone in Marvel’s long-awaited effort to formally bring the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Fans reacted quickly on social media, flooding Variety’s post announcing the update. One follower said they could hardly put their excitement for the film into words.

Another praised the casting choices entirely, calling every pick perfect. A third fan expressed disbelief at the announcement, celebrating Navarrette’s casting as a major career milestone.

Not everyone focused purely on excitement, though. One fan noted the casting remains incomplete, pointing out that characters like Beast, Wolverine and Iceman have yet to be announced.

With a strong ensemble now in place and a confirmed release date, anticipation for Marvel’s X-Men debut is expected to keep building steadily over the next two years.

Pakistan received its first major success at the Commonwealth Games as national boxer Fatima Zahra secured a place in the women’s boxing semifinals, guaranteeing the country’s first medal of the tournament. Competing in the women’s 60kg weight category, Fatima Zahra delivered a dominant performance in the quarterfinals, defeating New Zealand’s Jordan Wilson by a unanimous 5-0 decision. With the victory, the Pakistani boxer advanced to the semifinals and ensured at least a bronze medal for her country under the competition’s boxing format. The quarterfinal bout took place at the SEC Hall Five in Glasgow, where Fatima Zahra displayed confidence, composure, and technical superiority throughout the contest. She controlled all three rounds with disciplined boxing, combining effective footwork, accurate punches, and strong defensive skills to keep her opponent under pressure from the opening bell until the final round. Her impressive display left no room for doubt among the judges. All five judges scored the contest in her favor, awarding her a comprehensive unanimous decision victory over Jordan Wilson. The result marked one of Pakistan’s most significant achievements at the ongoing Commonwealth Games and provided an early boost to the country’s medal hopes. According to the boxing competition rules, every athlete who reaches the semifinals is guaranteed at least a bronze medal, as there is no third-place playoff. By advancing to the last four, Fatima Zahra officially secured Pakistan’s first medal of the Games, regardless of the outcome of her semifinal contest. The achievement is another milestone in Fatima Zahra’s growing international career. She has consistently represented Pakistan on the global stage and has already established herself as one of the country’s leading female boxers. Her latest success reflects both her dedication and the steady progress she has made through years of hard work and international competition. She previously claimed a bronze medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games, where her performances earned widespread praise and highlighted her potential to compete against some of the best boxers in the region. Following her convincing victory in the quarterfinals, Fatima Zahra has now set her sights on the semifinal, where she will aim to continue her winning run and secure a place in the gold medal match. Her qualification for the semifinals has been welcomed as an encouraging moment for Pakistan’s sporting community, particularly for women’s boxing, which continues to grow despite facing limited resources and opportunities. Fatima Zahra’s success is expected to inspire aspiring female athletes across the country and demonstrate that Pakistani women can compete successfully at the highest levels of international sport. With a guaranteed bronze medal already secured, all eyes will now be on Fatima Zahra as she prepares for the semifinal showdown. Over 317,000 Pakistanis leave for overseas jobs

LAHORE: More than 317,000 Pakistanis travelled abroad for employment during the first half of 2026, as economic pressures, unemployment, inflation and limited professional opportunities continue to push workers towards international job markets. Official figures show that 317,436 Pakistanis left the country for employment between January and June. Saudi Arabia remained the most popular destination, attracting 183,951 Pakistani workers during the six-month period. The United Arab Emirates ranked second with 50,773 workers, followed by Qatar with 34,025. Bahrain received 13,329 Pakistani workers, while 4,673 travelled to Türkiye for employment. Several other countries, including Cyprus, Greece, the United Kingdom and Malaysia, also attracted Pakistani workers. Of the total number, 316,848 workers completed their overseas employment registration through the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BE&OE). Another 588 workers secured employment through the Overseas Employment Corporation (OEC). The overseas workforce includes professionals from a wide range of sectors. Doctors, engineers, IT specialists, software developers, technicians and paramedical workers are among those seeking better employment prospects abroad. Experts say the continuing outflow could have both positive and negative consequences for Pakistan. Remittances sent by overseas workers provide an important source of foreign exchange and support millions of families in Pakistan. However, the departure of skilled professionals could also create challenges for sectors already facing shortages of qualified workers. Economic difficulties are being cited as a major factor behind the growing trend. Rising living costs, unemployment, heavy taxation and limited career opportunities have encouraged many young professionals to consider leaving the country. Experts have also expressed concern over Pakistan’s technological infrastructure. They argue that inadequate digital facilities, slow or disrupted internet services and limited research opportunities make it harder for professionals and businesses to compete internationally. The high cost of higher education is another concern. Young people seeking advanced qualifications often face significant financial pressure, while limited employment opportunities after graduation can encourage them to seek careers overseas. Thousands of additional Pakistanis are reportedly preparing to leave for employment and are currently completing documentation and other formal requirements through government offices. Workers travelling abroad have also reported difficulties during the departure process at airports in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad and other cities. The trend is not limited to blue-collar workers. A significant number of highly qualified professionals and students are also considering international opportunities. Some Pakistani students who travelled to Canada, Europe and the United States on scholarships have expressed a desire to return after completing their studies. However, they say their decision will depend on whether employment, research and professional opportunities improve in Pakistan.

Tom Holland hints at Spider-Man future as Sony hop…

Tom Holland has opened up about the future of his time as Spider-Man, admitting that he has started thinking about life beyond the beloved superhero role. However, Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman has made it clear that he hopes the British actor will continue wearing the famous red-and-blue suit for years to come. The conversation comes shortly after the record-breaking success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which has become one of the biggest box office hits of 2026. While promoting the film, Holland reflected on his decade-long journey as Peter Parker and revealed that he has begun considering the next chapter for the franchise. Although he is not officially retiring, the actor suggested he would be content “swinging off into the sunset” when the right time arrives.  Holland explained that he does not want Spider-Man to become a role he outgrows. Instead, he hopes to help introduce the next generation of heroes, particularly fan-favorite Miles Morales. The 30-year-old actor said he would love to remain involved in the franchise by mentoring a future Spider-Man, much like Robert Downey Jr. supported him during his early years in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Despite Holland’s comments, Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman is optimistic that the actor’s journey as Spider-Man is far from over. Speaking after the massive success of Brand New Day, Rothman acknowledged that discussions about the character’s future are ongoing but stressed that no final decisions have been made. He also expressed his hope that Holland will continue portraying the web-slinger, praising his contribution to the franchise’s remarkable success.  Holland’s recent remarks differ slightly from comments he made earlier this year, when he admitted that saying he should stop playing Spider-Man after turning 30 was something he no longer believed. Looking back, he explained that those earlier statements were made at a different stage in his life and that he now feels grateful for the opportunities the character has given him. He added that he would happily continue if the story remained exciting and meaningful.  The overwhelming response to Spider-Man: Brand New Day has only strengthened fans’ hopes that Holland will stay with the franchise. The film has earned praise for presenting a more mature Peter Parker while opening the door to future storylines involving new Marvel characters. Many viewers have described it as the beginning of an exciting new era rather than the end of Holland’s journey.  For now, neither Sony nor Marvel has confirmed when Holland’s final appearance as Spider-Man will come. While the actor is openly thinking about eventually passing the torch, he has also made it clear that he wants to ensure the character is left in good hands. With studio executives eager to keep him and audiences continuing to embrace his portrayal, Holland’s future as Spider-Man remains bright—even if he is already thinking about what comes next.

Taylor Swift reveals the biggest stress of cheerin…

Taylor Swift has become a familiar face at NFL stadiums while supporting Travis Kelce, but according to new reports, game days are far from relaxing for the global music superstar. Swift has attended numerous Kansas City Chiefs games since her relationship with Kelce became public, often drawing as much attention as the action on the field. While fans love spotting her in the stands, those close to the singer say watching her husband play is one of the most nerve-racking experiences she faces. According to reports, the hardest part for Swift is seeing Kelce put his body on the line every week. Football is one of the most physically demanding sports, and every tackle, collision and fall leaves her worried about his safety. Despite enjoying the excitement of the games, she reportedly spends much of the time hoping he walks off the field healthy.  The concern is understandable. Kelce has built a career as one of the NFL’s elite tight ends, a position that involves constant physical contact. While he has proven remarkably durable throughout his career, injuries are always a possibility in professional football. Swift’s presence at Chiefs games has also become a headline of its own. Television cameras frequently cut to her reactions, and every expression is analyzed by fans across social media. That level of public scrutiny adds another layer of pressure to an already emotional experience. Reports have suggested that she has intentionally kept a lower profile at some games to avoid becoming the center of attention and to keep the focus on Kelce and the team.  Despite the stress, Swift continues to show up whenever her schedule allows. Friends say supporting Kelce remains important to her, even if every game comes with anxious moments. The singer understands the demands of elite performance herself, while Kelce has previously spoken about admiring the dedication and physical endurance required during her record-breaking tours.  For Swift, the cheers, celebrations and victories are worth the nerves. But behind every smile from the VIP suite is the hope that the final whistle brings the same outcome she wants most—not just a Chiefs win, but seeing Kelce leave the field safe and healthy.

Austria opens police station at house where Hitler…

Austria has opened a police station inside the house in Braunau am Inn where Adolf Hitler was born, closing out years of debate over how to handle the building’s dark history. The 17th century structure once operated as an inn and served as the birthplace of the Nazi dictator in April 1889. Authorities have now completed a substantial renovation that changed the building’s facade, though managing the site has posed a persistent challenge for Austrian officials determined to prevent it from turning into a destination for neo Nazi pilgrimage. Hitler lived in the building, located at Salzburger Vorstadt 15, for only a few weeks before his family relocated to another address in Braunau. The family left the town permanently when Hitler was three years old. He briefly returned to Braunau in 1938 while traveling to Vienna after annexing Austria into Nazi Germany. Interior Minister Gerhard Karner attended the opening ceremony alongside other local officials, which featured police musicians performing on tuba and other brass instruments. Karner said Austria is taking responsibility for what he called the terrible legacy of the past, adding that although deciding the building’s fate proved difficult, he believes the new police station represents a fresh chapter for the site. He said the building will now stand as a place representing democracy, the rule of law, security, freedom and human dignity. A Catholic police chaplain then blessed two crosses that will hang inside the new station. For decades, Austria’s interior ministry rented the building from its former owner, a local woman named Gerlinde Pommer, paying her generous rent in an effort to keep the property from becoming a site for far right tourism. A local charity used the building for years as a day center and workshop for people with special needs, but the organization had to vacate in 2011 after Pommer blocked planned renovations. She also repeatedly declined to sell the property to the government, leaving the building empty for several years while she and authorities disputed terms. In 2016, Austria’s parliament passed legislation allowing the government to seize the property from Pommer, paying her compensation of 812,000 euros. She later challenged the amount in court, arguing it was too low, but ultimately lost the case. Wolfgang Sobotka, who served as interior minister at the time, suggested the building should be demolished and replaced with a new structure altogether, echoing an earlier proposal from a Russian lawmaker who had offered to purchase the house and destroy it. Both ideas drew significant criticism, with opponents arguing that tearing down the building would amount to denying Austria’s Nazi era history. In 2019, the government unveiled plans to convert the building into a police station and launched an EU wide competition inviting architects to submit design proposals. Officials subsequently spent millions of euros renovating the structure, transforming its appearance dramatically from its earlier state. The building, now painted white both inside and out, features extensive oak woodwork throughout, while an original winding staircase and arched entrance hall have been preserved from the earlier structure. The transformation marks a stark contrast to the building’s condition decades ago, when the Lebenshilfe charity operated a small shop in one of its front rooms. Police Chief Inspector Ludwig Heise said he feels fortunate to work in such a modern facility, noting the additional space compared to previous quarters, though he added that beyond its size, the station functions just like any other police facility in Austria. The reopening marks the culmination of a long and often contentious effort by Austrian authorities to neutralize the symbolic weight of Hitler’s birthplace, transforming a site once feared as a potential magnet for extremist sympathizers into a functioning symbol of the democratic institutions Austria has built in the decades since the Second World War.
