Flash flood warning issued for New York, New Jersey

Authorities have issued a flash flood warning for New York City, parts of New Jersey and western Long Island as heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds swept across the region, raising the threat of widespread flooding and travel disruptions. Weather officials warned that intense downpours could quickly overwhelm drainage systems, flood roads and affect low-lying areas. The flash flood warning remained in effect through Monday morning, while a broader flood watch was issued for New York City and northern and central New Jersey until the evening. Forecasters also declared a First Alert Weather Day, citing an elevated risk of flash flooding and severe thunderstorms. Moist and humid air moving into the region is expected to produce rainfall rates of one to three inches per hour, with total rainfall forecast between one and three inches. Some isolated locations could receive even higher amounts, significantly increasing the risk of flooding. In response to the severe weather threat, New York City Emergency Management activated its Flash Flood Emergency Plan. City crews were deployed to clear storm drains and catch basins in flood-prone neighbourhoods, while emergency teams were placed on standby to respond to flooded streets, fallen trees and stranded motorists. Officials warned that severe thunderstorms could also generate damaging wind gusts, increasing the possibility of power outages and hazardous driving conditions throughout the day. Meanwhile, a High Surf Advisory was issued for beaches south of New York City and across Long Island, where waves were expected to reach between six and ten feet. Authorities also warned of a high risk of dangerous rip currents and urged residents and visitors to stay out of the water until conditions improve. Temperatures were expected to remain in the low 80s under mostly cloudy skies. Weather experts forecast that storm activity would gradually weaken by Monday night, bringing an improvement in conditions.

Ukraine accuses Russia of launching North Korean missiles in deadly regional strikes

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Moscow of deploying North Korean ballistic missiles during a series of overnight attacks across Ukraine that left at least seven people dead in Zaporizhzhia. Local officials in Zaporizhzhia reported that the strikes hit the city’s Zaporizhstal metallurgical plant with guided bombs and missiles, killing seven employees, injuring 24 others, and forcing the facility to suspend operations. The barrage was part of a broader aerial offensive involving 120 Russian drones and multiple missile launches that disrupted power supplies in Kharkiv and Kherson while damaging civilian infrastructure in Kyiv and Sumy. In response, Ukrainian forces launched retaliatory deep-space strikes targeting critical Russian supply and industrial assets. Ukrainian drones struck facilities belonging to online retailer Wildberries in the Voronezh region, as well as a petrochemical plant in western Siberia. The long-range campaign follows a strike on the Tanevo oil refinery in Tatarstan, located over 680 miles inside Russian territory, which killed 13 people and injured dozens. Zelensky warned that Moscow’s growing reliance on North Korean weaponry and troops presents a expanding international security threat. Western military intelligence previously noted that thousands of North Korean soldiers had been deployed to support Russian units in the Kursk region, where allied forces suffered heavy casualties during autumn combat.

Iran threatens action over US economic support

Iran’s National Security Council chief Mohsen Rezaei has warned that the interests of countries assisting the United States in its economic war against Iran could be targeted. In an interview, Major General Mohsen Rezaei urged Iran’s neighbouring countries not to cooperate with Washington against Tehran. He warned that Iran could consider them hostile if they joined the US economic campaign. Rezaei said Iran did not want to escalate the conflict. However, he warned that any neighbouring country supporting the economic war could face attacks on its interests. He also threatened to prevent even a single drop of oil from passing through the Persian Gulf or the Strait of Hormuz. He said other routes used to import oil through the Persian Gulf could also be targeted. Rezaei further warned that locations linked to Iranian opposition groups could also come under attack if the United States continued meeting groups opposed to the Iranian government. According to Rezaei, the US had expected to end the conflict within a few days and take control of Iran’s oil and gas resources. He claimed that around 1,200 oil tankers had become unusable during the conflict, affecting 15 per cent of the global fleet. He said Tehran should reconsider its approach to the conflict and its diplomatic engagement with the international community. Rezaei accused Washington of failing to honour its commitments. Rezaei said Iran was no longer the same country it was before the conflict. He described new military appointments by Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei as a sign that Iran was preparing for war. He added that the perception of the United States among Iranian youth had also changed. According to him, many young Iranians no longer view America as a country committed to peace. Rezaei accused Washington of betraying negotiations, diplomacy and agreements it had signed. He also warned that US policies could encourage more countries to seek nuclear weapons. He criticised US President Donald Trump and claimed that the world had begun viewing Iran differently. Rezaei said Iran would change its approach to warfare and use the lessons learned from the current conflict in any future war. Asked about the Makkah agreement involving Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia, Rezaei said it indicated that the United States had informed those countries of its intention to leave the region. On former Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, Rezaei said those who believed his return would turn Iran into a “paradise” should reconsider their view. He claimed that bringing Pahlavi back to power could instead lead to Iran being divided into five parts.

Sharmeen Ali opens up about rebuilding her life after divorce

Pakistani actress Sharmeen Ali has candidly shared her journey of becoming financially independent after her divorce, revealing how she rebuilt her life while taking full responsibility for herself and her daughter. Speaking during a recent television morning show, the actress reflected on the difficult phase that followed the end of her marriage and how it ultimately led her to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. Sharmeen explained that after her separation, she felt she had no choice but to become self-reliant. Having married at a young age, she said she was unable to complete her education, leaving her with limited opportunities when she had to start over. Recalling that period, the actress said she returned to live with her parents after the divorce but was determined not to become a financial burden on them. She shared that her parents were growing older, and she wanted to support herself instead of relying on them for her daily expenses. Driven by that determination, Sharmeen began exploring different ways to earn a living. Before entering showbiz, she worked on various creative projects, including clothing design, home décor, and other freelance services. She said those early efforts helped her regain confidence and provided a foundation for a new beginning. According to the actress, her life changed within just three months when she received an opportunity to work from producer Nina Kashif. The offer marked the beginning of her acting career and opened the door to Pakistan’s television industry. Sharmeen admitted that not everyone in her family was initially comfortable with her decision to join showbiz. She said her loved ones had reservations about the profession, but given her circumstances, financial independence was her top priority. She believed pursuing a career in acting was the best way to secure a stable future for herself and her daughter. Although her early days in the entertainment industry were not easy, Sharmeen said she received only a limited number of projects at first. However, she remained grateful for every opportunity that came her way. She explained that those initial roles were enough to keep her moving forward and gradually helped her establish herself in the industry. The actress also reflected on the emotional impact her marriage had on her confidence. Despite having studied abroad before getting married, she said the experiences she went through during her marriage affected her deeply. She recalled that she had once been an independent and confident young woman, but after the challenges she faced, it felt as though that confidence had disappeared. Sharmeen said rebuilding her self-belief became one of the biggest challenges of her life. She described the period after her divorce as starting from zero, requiring patience, resilience, and consistent effort. Through hard work and determination, she slowly regained her confidence and created a new path for herself. Today, the actress views her journey as a reminder that difficult circumstances can become an opportunity for personal growth. By choosing independence and refusing to give up despite financial and emotional hardships, Sharmeen Ali has built a successful career while providing for her family. She hopes her story encourages others facing similar challenges to believe in themselves, remain persistent, and never lose hope, even when life demands a fresh start.
