Justice delayed for 40 years is injustice, says Mu…

Prominent religious scholar Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman has called for urgent reforms in Pakistan’s justice and economic systems, saying that a legal framework that fails to deliver justice for decades cannot be considered fair. Addressing a gathering in Karachi on Tuesday, Mufti Muneeb said prolonged court cases lasting 40 years amount to injustice and place an enormous burden on ordinary citizens. He stressed that timely justice is essential for social stability and public trust in institutions. The scholar also urged those in power to focus on resolving Pakistan’s domestic challenges. He said leaders often discuss global issues, but greater attention should be given to pressing national matters, particularly economic concerns affecting millions of people. Referring to the energy sector, Mufti Muneeb called for a solution to issues related to Independent Power Producers (IPPs), which have frequently been debated in Pakistan due to their impact on electricity costs and the national economy. He further highlighted the country’s financial difficulties, saying that after payments related to provincial allocations and debt obligations, limited resources remain for development and public welfare. Speaking at the same event, Maulana Bashir Farooqi expressed concern over the continuation of the interest-based banking system. He said there was a need for serious efforts to move toward alternative financial models and added that his organization was prepared to help train employees of conventional banks if reforms were introduced. PMD issues high flood alert as Head Marala records over 205,000 cusecs inflow

SIALKOT: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a High Flood Level Advisory for the River Chenab, warning that high water flows are expected to persist over the next 6 to 8 hours before gradually receding as rainfall over the upper catchments continues to decrease. According to the latest flood monitoring data, Head Marala has reached a high flood level, with water inflow recorded at 205,488 cusecs and outflow at 187,388 cusecs, indicating sustained high water levels in the Chenab River system. The Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) said the high flood situation has been caused by heavy rainfall across the upper Chenab catchment, as observed through hydro-meteorological data and the Sialkot weather radar. Although rainfall has now weakened across the major sub-catchments, river flows are expected to remain high for the next several hours before gradually declining. The advisory states that the River Chenab at Marala will likely remain at High Flood Level for the next 6 to 8 hours, provided current rainfall trends continue. It further warns that Khanki and Qadirabad are expected to reach High Flood Level within the next 10 to 12 hours. Besides the Chenab, the Jammu Tawi River is currently experiencing a medium-level flood, with a recorded inflow of 11,868 cusecs, while the Manawar Tawi is flowing at a low flood level, carrying 8,123 cusecs of water. The PMD has cautioned that residents living in riverine (Kacha) areas adjacent to the Chenab may face hazardous conditions and should avoid unnecessary movement near riverbanks and flood-prone locations until water levels begin to recede. The advisory also warns that standing crops, fodder fields and livestock in low-lying floodplain areas remain vulnerable to inundation. Low-lying roads, river crossings, embankment approaches and transport routes close to the river may also experience localized disruptions due to the elevated water levels. The Flood Forecasting Division said it will continue to closely monitor hydro-meteorological conditions, river flows and weather radar observations, issuing further updates if the situation changes. Meanwhile, provincial and district administrations, irrigation departments and other concerned agencies have been urged to maintain enhanced monitoring of river conditions and remain fully prepared for any emergency. The PMD noted that decisions regarding rescue, relief and emergency response will be taken by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and the respective district administrations. Authorities have advised residents, particularly those living in riverine and low-lying areas, to stay alert, follow official instructions and avoid unnecessary travel near flood-affected locations until the situation improves.

Rain-bearing weather system ends in Karachi, monso…

The weather system responsible for recent rainfall in Karachi has weakened and dissipated, bringing an end to the latest spell of rain in the city. However, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has indicated that Karachi is still likely to receive more monsoon showers during the month of August. On Monday, the city experienced stronger-than-usual southwesterly sea breezes, helping to keep temperatures slightly lower than the previous day. According to the PMD, wind speeds reached 42 kilometers per hour, while the maximum temperature settled at 34.4°C, around 0.8°C lower than the previous day’s reading. Meteorologists said the strong sea breeze played a key role in moderating daytime temperatures despite the prevailing humid conditions. Residents continued to experience warm and sticky weather, although the increased wind speed provided some relief from the heat. The Early Warning Center has forecast partly cloudy, hot, and humid conditions for the next three days. During this period, daytime temperatures are expected to range between 34°C and 36°C, with no immediate indication of widespread rainfall. According to PMD spokesperson and Deputy Director Anjum Nazir, the weather system that triggered recent rain across Karachi has now completely weakened. He noted that it is too early to determine whether a developing low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal will have any direct impact on Karachi’s weather. Despite the end of the current system, weather experts remain optimistic about the city’s monsoon outlook. They expect Karachi to receive additional rainfall during August as seasonal monsoon activity continues across the region. The timing and intensity of future rain spells will depend on the movement and strength of upcoming weather systems. Karachi typically experiences high humidity during the monsoon season, and changing weather patterns can result in sudden showers even after dry periods. Residents are advised to stay updated with official weather forecasts, especially if they plan to travel or participate in outdoor activities. The latest update offers a brief pause in rainfall while highlighting that the monsoon season is far from over. Authorities will continue to monitor developing weather systems and issue forecasts as conditions evolve, helping residents prepare for any significant changes in the coming weeks.
