Tom Holland admits he had to fake enthusiasm for bad movies

Tom Holland has opened up about a time when he had to be less than honest while promoting certain films. He admitted those projects simply were not worth recommending to audiences.

The 30-year-old actor is currently deep into promotional duties for his upcoming film, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” During a recent conversation on the Dish Podcast with host Nick Grimshaw, Holland explained that talking to press about this particular project has felt refreshingly genuine and effortless.

He described how promoting a film he is genuinely proud of removes any pressure to stretch the truth. When journalists ask why audiences should watch the movie, he said, there is no need to fabricate enthusiasm because he authentically believes people will enjoy it.

Holland contrasted this with earlier experiences in his career, revealing that he sometimes privately doubted whether certain projects deserved an audience at all. He admitted that in the past, when reporters asked him to justify why viewers should see a particular film, he sometimes had to hold back his true opinion, quietly acknowledging to himself that the honest answer would have been far less flattering.

The actor did not specify which films prompted these private doubts, but his comments suggest that not every project in his filmography has met his own standards of quality, even if he could not say so publicly at the time.

Holland’s candid remarks come as he gears up for his next major role, returning as Peter Parker in the latest installment of the Spider-Man franchise. He will be joined once again by Zendaya, continuing their on-screen partnership from previous films in the series.

The upcoming movie, which blends action and science fiction elements, is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31. Alongside Holland and Zendaya, the cast includes several notable additions, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, and Sadie Sink round out the ensemble for this fourth sequel in the ongoing Spider-Man saga.

Given the franchise’s massive popularity and the strong cast lineup, expectations are already running high for this latest chapter. One of the key concerns was the delayed publication of the executive budget proposal. The report said Pakistan did not release the proposal within a reasonable period, limiting the opportunity for lawmakers and citizens to examine spending and revenue priorities before the budget was formally approved. The State Department recommended that the government publish its proposed budget in a timely manner to allow greater public scrutiny and parliamentary debate. The report also raised concerns over the limited disclosure of government debt obligations, particularly liabilities linked to major state-owned enterprises. More comprehensive information, it said, would provide a clearer picture of Pakistan’s overall financial position and help identify potential fiscal risks. Despite these shortcomings, the assessment offered credit for several areas of Pakistan’s financial transparency. It said enacted budgets and year-end reports were widely and easily accessible, including online. Publicly available budget documents were also found to provide a substantially complete picture of most planned government expenditures and revenues, including income from natural resources. Pakistan’s auditing arrangements received a broadly favourable assessment. The report said budget information was generally reliable and subject to scrutiny by the country’s supreme audit institution. It further noted that the institution met international standards of independence and made its findings public within a reasonable period. The assessment also examined natural resource contracts and public procurement. It found that Pakistan had established legal procedures for awarding natural resource extraction licences and appeared to follow them in practice. Information on public procurement contracts was also considered accessible. However, the report identified a particularly sensitive area requiring greater oversight: military and intelligence spending. According to the assessment, the budgets of military and intelligence agencies were not subject to adequate parliamentary or civilian public oversight. The State Department included stronger scrutiny of these expenditures among its principal recommendations. Overall, the report presented a mixed picture rather than describing Pakistan’s fiscal system as broadly opaque. It recognised progress in publishing budgets, audit findings and procurement information while urging authorities to close key transparency gaps. The recommendations underline the importance of timely financial disclosure and stronger parliamentary scrutiny in improving accountability, public confidence and the management of Pakistan’s fiscal risks.

    Jasprit Bumrah sidelined for Sri Lanka Tests over knee concern

    The Ministry of Religious Affairs has decided to introduce a new digital system for the private Hajj operation in 2027 in line with Saudi Arabia’s Nusuk Masar system. Under the new arrangement, bookings for private Hajj will be processed through the Ministry of Religious Affairs instead of being handled directly by private Hajj operators. For the first time, both the government and private Hajj operations will come under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, according to sources. Sources said the private Hajj scheme will be operated through the ministry’s official Pak Hajj app, which will serve as the digital platform for managing bookings and related arrangements. The move is aimed at bringing greater transparency, centralised oversight and digital management to the private Hajj scheme. It will also align Pakistan’s private Hajj operations with the digital procedures being implemented by Saudi authorities. Under the proposed system, pilgrims seeking to perform Hajj through the private scheme will be able to access the relevant services through the official digital platform, while the ministry will maintain direct oversight of the process. The decision marks a significant change from the existing arrangement, under which private Hajj operators play a central role in booking and managing pilgrims. The ministry is expected to announce further details regarding registration, booking procedures, packages, payments and the role of private operators as preparations for Hajj 2027 progress.

    At least seven people died in Russia following what officials described as Ukraine’s largest scale attack of the year, while separate Russian strikes on Ukraine killed at least seven more people and injured over 39 others. Ukraine launched roughly 822 drones in the assault, with 600 of them targeting Moscow, according to the region’s governor, who called it one of the most massive drone attacks the Russian capital has faced in recent memory. The strikes hit a warehouse belonging to online retailer Wildberries among other targets. In Russia’s southwestern Rostov region, five people died following overnight strikes, the regional governor said. In Belgorod, which borders Ukraine, officials said a woman died after a civilian bus was hit, while Moscow region governor Andrey Vorobyov reported that an 83 year old man died in a separate drone attack. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said a Wildberries warehouse in Koledino, about 25 kilometers, or 15.5 miles, from central Moscow, was struck and left three people injured, with video footage showing fire and heavy smoke rising above the facility. Wildberries, often compared to Amazon, has faced repeated attacks since July, when Kyiv said it was deliberately targeting logistics hubs Russians use to acquire military equipment as part of a broader effort to disrupt supply lines feeding the Russian army. In Ukraine, officials said a 66 year old man and a 64 year old woman died after a guided aerial bomb struck a private home in the Zaporizhzhia region. Two additional deaths were reported in Kryvyi Rih, a city in the Dnipropetrovsk region, while officials in Sumy, Donetsk and Kherson each reported one fatality, including a 51 year old killed in a drone strike in Sumy. Air raid sirens sounded four times overnight in Kyiv as Russian forces struck the capital. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said at least six people, including a child, were injured in the attacks. Russian officials said their strikes on Kyiv Saturday night targeted a FirePoint facility that produces components for Ukraine’s Flamingo missiles, along with a factory manufacturing drone parts. The strikes also damaged a book market in the city’s Pochayna district, leaving charred books scattered across the ground as firefighters worked to extinguish the remaining flames. Valentina, 69, whose husband ran a stall at the market, described searching through the debris and recognizing books that had belonged to his stall lying scattered on the ground. She said she never imagined something like this would happen to her family. Luba, 42, who owns a vinyl record store nearby, said she lost stock worth roughly 500,000 hryvnias, or about £8,262, in the strikes. She called the shop her life’s work and said many of the destroyed records were rare and could not be replaced. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said 13 regions across the country came under attack this week, with Russia launching more than 1,550 attack drones, nearly 1,560 guided aerial bombs and 62 missiles during that period. He said Russian forces strike civilian infrastructure wherever their ballistic missiles can reach. Russia launched its full scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and currently controls roughly a fifth of Ukrainian territory. With neither side making significant progress along the lengthy front line in recent months, the war has increasingly shifted toward an aerial contest, with both countries trading missile and drone strikes aimed at degrading the other’s capacity to keep fighting.
