Dubai emerges as one of the World’s fastest-growing wealth hubs as millionaire population doubles

Dubai has recorded the fastest growth in millionaire residents among the world’s leading wealth centers over the past decade . The report reveals that the emirate’s millionaire population increased by an impressive 102 percent between 2014 and 2024, making Dubai the fastest-rising city in the global rankings.

The study shows that Dubai is now home to approximately 81,200 millionaires, reflecting its growing appeal as a destination for global wealth. Among these wealthy residents are 237 centimillionaires, individuals with investable assets exceeding $100 million, as well as 20 billionaires, further strengthening Dubai’s position as a major international financial hub.

As a result of this remarkable growth, Dubai climbed from 21st to 18th place in the list of the world’s 50 wealthiest cities. The improvement highlights the emirate’s increasing importance in global finance and its success in attracting high-net-worth individuals from across the world.

Several factors have contributed to Dubai’s rapid rise as a preferred destination for wealthy individuals. One of the biggest attractions is the emirate’s tax-friendly environment, which includes zero percent personal income tax and no capital gains tax. These financial advantages make Dubai particularly appealing to entrepreneurs, investors, and business owners looking to preserve and grow their wealth.

The report also points to the United Arab Emirates’ long-term residency programs as another major reason behind Dubai’s popularity. These visa initiatives allow investors, professionals, and entrepreneurs to establish long-term residency, providing greater stability for individuals and families who wish to relocate permanently.

In addition to its favorable tax policies, Dubai has invested heavily in modern infrastructure, world-class transportation, luxury real estate, healthcare, education, and digital innovation. These developments have transformed the city into more than just a tourist destination, making it an attractive place to live, work, and conduct business.

The emirate’s strategic location between Europe, Asia, and Africa has also played an important role in its economic success. As a global business gateway, Dubai offers easy access to international markets while maintaining a business-friendly regulatory environment that encourages foreign investment and entrepreneurship.

When compared with traditional wealth centers around the world, Dubai’s growth stands out. While many major cities have experienced slower growth or even declines in their wealthy populations over the past decade, Dubai has continued to attract affluent individuals at a remarkable pace.

The report notes that New York City remains the world’s wealthiest city, with approximately 384,500 millionaires, maintaining its position at the top of the global rankings. However, Dubai continues to narrow the gap by consistently attracting new high-net-worth residents each year.

The report also highlights that only a small number of major cities have experienced positive growth in their millionaire populations over the last ten years. Meanwhile, some established financial centers have seen declines. For example, London is among the few global cities that recorded a decrease in its millionaire population during the same period, reflecting shifting global investment patterns.

Looking ahead, Henley & Partners expects Dubai’s momentum to continue. The firm forecasts that during 2026, the emirate could welcome more than 7,000 additional millionaires while attracting approximately AED 70 billion in new private wealth.

As global investors increasingly seek stable economies, business-friendly regulations, and attractive lifestyle opportunities, Dubai appears well-positioned to strengthen its status as one of the world’s leading financial and wealth destinations. With continued investment in infrastructure, innovation, and economic diversification, the emirate is expected to remain a preferred destination for wealthy individuals seeking long-term opportunities and financial security.

Japan PM’s market woes deepen as support slides

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is facing mounting political and economic pressure as falling public support makes it harder for her government to balance tax cuts, economic stimulus and financial stability. Takaichi’s approval rating fell sharply in July, reaching its lowest level since she became prime minister last year. Rising inflation has increased pressure on households and weakened public confidence in the government. Higher import costs linked to a weaker yen have contributed to price increases. The impact of inflation is now becoming a major political challenge for Takaichi. The prime minister has continued to support higher government spending and large-scale investment. She has also criticised excessive monetary and fiscal tightening. However, investors are increasingly worried that the government’s expansionary policies could worsen Japan’s already difficult fiscal position. Those concerns have pushed Japanese government bond yields higher. Rising yields indicate that investors are demanding greater returns to hold Japanese debt. The market pressure has also complicated government efforts to support the yen. Officials have repeatedly warned currency traders against excessive speculation, but their comments have had limited impact. Government sources said the effectiveness of such verbal intervention was weakening as investors became more concerned about Japan’s fiscal outlook. One source warned that financial markets were gaining greater influence over fiscal management, creating a situation Japan had not experienced on this scale for decades. Takaichi is caught between two competing objectives. She wants to stimulate economic growth and reduce the burden of rising living costs. At the same time, she needs to convince investors that Japan remains committed to fiscal discipline. Her government’s spending plans have already contributed to market concerns. Japanese government bond yields climbed to their highest level in about three decades in July as investors assessed the potential impact of increased spending and borrowing. Takaichi has acknowledged the importance of rebuilding confidence among investors. She recently said that communication with financial markets would become increasingly important. However, she has shown little intention of abandoning her expansionary economic strategy. The prime minister has reiterated her goal of ending what she calls excessive fiscal tightening. She wants to promote growth through increased investment and tax reductions. That position has created a political dilemma. Reducing or delaying her planned measures could weaken her popularity. But continuing with them could further unsettle financial markets. The pressure could intensify in the coming months. Takaichi is expected to proceed with a proposal to reduce an 8% consumption tax on food for two years. Japanese media have reported that the government intends to move ahead despite reservations within the ruling party. The plan could provide relief to households struggling with higher prices. However, analysts say uncertainty over how the tax reduction would be financed could create additional pressure in the bond market. The government is also considering changes to its budget-making process. Under the proposed system, spending requests for key growth sectors would not be subject to strict ceilings. That could lead to higher government expenditure and increased debt issuance in the next fiscal year. Economists have warned that such measures may make it more difficult for the government to reassure investors about its commitment to fiscal responsibility. Japan’s currency is also facing significant pressure.

Ye to perform in Russia, marking major Western star’s return

Ye, the American rapper and former Kanye West, is set to perform two concerts in St Petersburg, Russia, this October. His planned performances are attracting significant international attention, as he is expected to become the biggest Western music star to perform in Russia since the country launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine four years ago. The concerts will take place at the 70,000-seat Gazprom Arena. Tickets reportedly sold out within only a few hours after the shows were announced on Monday. Ticket prices ranged from around 9,000 roubles (£78) to 160,000 roubles (£1,394), showing the strong demand for the controversial rapper’s appearance. The performances come at a time when Ye is attempting to rebuild his public image following years of controversial statements, particularly remarks widely condemned as antisemitic and supportive of Nazi ideology. In January, the rapper issued an apology and attributed some of his behaviour to a brain injury and bipolar disorder. Ye’s attempts to return to the international concert scene have faced considerable difficulties. His planned European tour this summer was disrupted after several performances were cancelled because of public criticism surrounding his views. In the United Kingdom, the long-established Wireless Festival was cancelled after Ye, who had been scheduled to headline all three nights, was refused permission to enter the country. The UK Home Office said the decision was based on the assessment that his presence would not be “conducive to the public good”. Other concerts in France, Poland, Italy and the Czech Republic were also cancelled. However, performances in Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Turkey and Albania went ahead. His concert in Madrid earlier this month attracted substantial international interest. According to Spanish national broadcaster, as many as 60% of those attending were foreigners who had been unable to see Ye perform in their own countries. Critics praised the concert’s impressive production and stage design, particularly the huge illuminated dome on which the rapper performed. Despite the controversy surrounding his public statements, some reviewers described the Madrid performance positively. Critics highlighted the energetic atmosphere, extensive selection of popular songs and Ye’s apparent determination to reconnect with audiences. One reviewer even observed that there were no visible Nazi supporters among the crowd. Ye’s upcoming Russian concerts are not entirely unexpected. Rumours that the musician intended to perform in Russia have circulated for several years. In 2024, he visited the country to attend the birthday celebrations of fashion designer Gosha Rubchinskiy, with whom he has previously collaborated. However, his decision to perform in Russia has also received criticism from some Russian figures. Conservative lawmaker Vitaly Milonov suggested that Ye should perform traditional Russian songs rather than his usual repertoire. He said he hoped the experience would encourage the rapper to abandon what he described as his “disgusting antics” and become a more conventional public figure. Before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, performances by major Western musicians were relatively common in the country. International acts including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lana Del Rey, Muse and System of a Down had all performed there. Since the war began, however, the situation has changed significantly. Many international record companies suspended their operations in Russia, while numerous Western artists stopped touring there. As a result, only a limited number of Western musicians have performed in Russia in recent years. Those who have appeared have generally been less prominent international acts, including Tyga, DaBaby, Akon and rapper Lil Pump. Ye’s controversy dates back to 2022, when he began making a series of offensive comments on social media. His remarks resulted in restrictions or suspensions on some of his accounts, while major companies also distanced themselves from him. Adidas and Balenciaga were among the prominent brands that ended their relationships with the rapper. The controversy intensified when Ye publicly described himself as a Nazi and released a song titled “Heil Hitler”. He also promoted clothing featuring a swastika, causing widespread condemnation. In January, however, Ye published a full-page advertisement  in which he apologised for his previous behaviour. He stated that he was neither a Nazi nor an antisemite and described his previous actions as part of a prolonged period of unstable behaviour. Ye said he had experienced what he called a four-month period of manic, paranoid and impulsive behaviour. He also explained that his bipolar disorder had affected his ability to recognise that he was unwell at the time. His upcoming concerts in St Petersburg therefore represent more than simply another entry on his performance schedule. They mark a significant return to a country where major Western artists have largely been absent since the invasion of Ukraine. The shows are likely to attract both Russian fans and international attention, while also continuing the debate over whether controversial artists should be given major international platforms despite their previous statements and conduct.

Fury wins lowkey warm up to keep Joshua fight on t…

Tyson Fury stopped Mariusz Wach in a low-key bout in Thailand, attended by no more than 1,500 fans and not televised live anywhere in the world. The 37-year-old British heavyweight dominated for seven rounds at the Max Muay Thai Stadium in Pattaya before the overmatched Wach, 46, retired on his stool at the start of the eighth. Friday’s bout was not broadcast on any television or radio platform and will instead form part of the third series of the Netflix reality show ‘At Home With The Fury’s’. The 36th victory of his career moves Fury closer to a potential blockbuster meeting with fellow Briton Anthony Joshua, who has his own comeback fight against Albanian Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia on Saturday. “I went through my test tonight. Let’s see if he can get through his,” Fury said. Many expected ‘the Gypsy King’ to fly straight to Jeddah for Joshua’s fight, with the pair potentially announcing their long-awaited showdown in the ring afterwards if Joshua wins. Instead, Fury said he was going home. “I’ve got to face off with my wife. I’ve got to iron when I get home. I’ve been away for six out of the last seven months. I’m not going to Jeddah, I’m going home to my wife and kids. I’m going to regroup and hopefully we’ll have a big fight signed next week.” Questions still linger over where the all-British bout would take place, with Eddie Hearn saying Joshua’s contract stipulates the UK, but industry whispers suggesting a venue in America. “We’ll head wherever we’re going to head,” Fury said. “Who knows? It could be in Vegas, New York, Ireland, London. Who knows where the fight’s going to be?” The low-key warm-up in Thailand was a strategic move for Fury, who has been basing his training camps in the country. The fight, though not broadcast live, allowed him to shake off any ring rust and stay active ahead of a potential megafight with Joshua. Wach, a durable veteran, provided rounds for Fury, who was able to dominate at his own pace without taking unnecessary risks. The fight between Fury and Joshua has been one of the most anticipated in boxing history, with fans around the world eager to see the two British heavyweights finally meet. Both fighters have expressed interest in the bout, and negotiations have been ongoing for months. Joshua’s fight against Prenga is seen as a final tune-up before the potential clash, and a victory would likely set the stage for the showdown. Fury’s decision to skip Joshua’s fight and return home has raised some eyebrows, but the heavyweight champion has always marched to the beat of his own drum. His focus remains on the future, and he has made it clear that he is ready for the big fight. As the boxing world waits for official confirmation, fans are hopeful that the long-awaited clash between Fury and Joshua will finally come to fruition, delivering a spectacle worthy of the sport’s biggest stage. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether the fight will be made and where it will take place, with the potential to become one of the biggest events in boxing history.

Ship attacked near Strait of Hormuz

A vessel came under attack by an unidentified projectile while sailing through the Strait of Hormuz near the coast of Oman, according to maritime security sources. The incident reportedly caused a fire in one section of the Liberia-flagged vessel. The crew attempted to bring the blaze under control, while authorities began assessing the situation and the extent of the damage. Maritime security sources said that one crew member went missing following the attack. The incident has raised fresh concerns about maritime safety in and around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important shipping routes. The latest incident comes as regional authorities continue efforts to maintain safe navigation through the waterway amid heightened security concerns. Meanwhile, Iran has confirmed that it is close to reaching an understanding with Oman on a new maritime arrangement for the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said talks with Oman have made progress and that both sides are working on establishing a temporary safe passage through the strategic waterway. Baghaei said discussions between Iran and Oman remain ongoing, with the two countries coordinating efforts to facilitate safer maritime movement through the Strait of Hormuz. The development comes at a sensitive time for commercial shipping in the region, with any disruption in the Strait of Hormuz carrying potential consequences for international trade and energy supplies.
