David Jonsson confirmed as new Black Panther in Black Panther 3

Ryan Coogler has officially unveiled the next chapter of the Black Panther franchise, confirming that English actor David Jonsson will take on the mantle of the new Black Panther in Black Panther 3. The announcement was made during Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 25, sparking excitement among Marvel fans around the world.

Jonsson, 32, is set to portray the adult son of T’Challa, marking a major new direction for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The casting introduces a fresh generation of Wakanda’s royal family while continuing the legacy established in the first two films.

Coogler, who directed both Black Panther (2018) and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), will return to write and direct the third installment. Speaking during the presentation, he confirmed that Jonsson’s character is T’Challa’s grown son, positioning him as the future protector of Wakanda.

The announcement carries special significance following the death of Chadwick Boseman, who portrayed King T’Challa in the original Black Panther. Boseman passed away in 2020 at the age of 43 after a private battle with colon cancer. Rather than recasting the beloved actor’s role, Marvel chose to honor his legacy by reshaping the sequel’s story.

In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the narrative shifted its focus to T’Challa’s sister, Shuri, played by Letitia Wright. Throughout the film, Shuri embraced her responsibilities and ultimately became the new Black Panther, earning praise from audiences for carrying forward her brother’s legacy.

Marvel has confirmed that Wright is expected to reprise her role as Shuri in Black Panther 3. While plot details remain under wraps, her return suggests that the film will continue exploring Wakanda’s future while introducing the next generation of heroes.

Fans quickly flooded social media with enthusiastic reactions after Jonsson’s casting was announced. Many praised Marvel’s decision, calling him a talented actor capable of carrying one of the franchise’s most iconic roles.

One fan described the casting as an “incredible choice,” expressing confidence that Jonsson would excel in the role. Others highlighted his impressive acting abilities, saying he was the perfect selection to lead the franchise’s future. Several fans also reflected on Chadwick Boseman’s lasting impact, sharing emotional messages about the symbolic passing of the Black Panther mantle to a new generation.

The announcement has reignited excitement for one of Marvel’s most celebrated film series. Since its debut in 2018, Black Panther has become a cultural milestone, earning critical acclaim, breaking box office records, and becoming the first superhero film to receive a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards.

With Ryan Coogler returning behind the camera, Letitia Wright expected to reprise her role, and David Jonsson stepping into the spotlight as T’Challa’s son, Black Panther 3 is shaping up to be one of Marvel’s most anticipated upcoming releases.

The film is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 15, 2028.

Carlos Brathwaite applauds Babar Azam’s captaincy

Former West Indies all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite has praised Pakistan captain Babar Azam for his outstanding leadership, describing his captaincy as a tactical masterclass during the ongoing Test against the Caribbean side. Speaking during his analysis of the match, Brathwaite highlighted Babar’s calm decision-making and ability to read the game under pressure. He said the Pakistan skipper showed excellent awareness by slowing the pace of play at key moments and making smart field changes that unsettled the West Indies batters. According to Brathwaite, one of Babar’s best tactical moves was the field placement against experienced batter Roston Chase. The carefully designed field forced Chase to rethink his natural game and prevented him from scoring freely. “Babar’s field settings kept Roston Chase under constant pressure,” Brathwaite noted. “He had to keep adjusting his approach, and eventually that pressure led to a mistake.” The former all-rounder added that Babar’s leadership reflected a high standard of captaincy, saying every move appeared to be planned according to the match situation rather than following a fixed strategy. Brathwaite believes the Pakistan captain demonstrated maturity, patience and tactical intelligence, qualities that helped his team remain competitive during crucial stages of the contest. Meanwhile, the Test match remains finely balanced. West Indies reached 103-6 in their second innings and currently hold a lead of 60 runs, setting up an intriguing finish over the remaining sessions. Pakistan will now look to capitalize on any opportunity to wrap up the innings quickly, while the West Indies hope to extend their advantage with the lower order. Brathwaite’s glowing assessment has once again placed the spotlight on Babar Azam’s leadership, with many cricket fans praising the Pakistan captain for his strategic approach and composure in high-pressure situations.

Nepal: Deep sorrow swept through Nepal as family, friends, teachers, and students gathered at Nirmal Purja’s former school to honor the legendary mountaineer, whose life was tragically cut short in a deadly avalanche on Pakistan’s Broad Peak. At Small Heaven School in Chitwan, candles were lit and flowers placed before a portrait of the celebrated British-Nepali climber, creating an emotional tribute to a man whose remarkable achievements inspired millions around the world. The ceremony took place as rescue teams recovered the 43-year-old’s body following the avalanche that claimed the lives of ten climbers last Thursday. Those who knew Purja long before he became an international mountaineering icon remembered him as a determined and fearless child with extraordinary ambition. Former classmate Dhiraj Bahadur Panta recalled the anxious days when Purja was reported missing, saying friends and admirers across the world had prayed for his safe return. He described the loss as heartbreaking, adding that fate had taken away a man admired by countless people. Teachers also reflected on Purja’s early years, describing him as disciplined, honest, and courageous. Shailendra Baral, who supervised him in the school hostel, said Purja displayed exceptional confidence even as a young student and always stood out for his determination to achieve something meaningful in life. Purja went on to become one of the greatest mountaineers of his generation. In 2019, he rewrote climbing history by scaling the world’s 14 highest peaks in just over six months, smashing a record that had stood for years. His extraordinary accomplishment was later featured in a Netflix documentary, inspiring aspiring climbers and bringing global recognition to Nepal’s mountaineering community. He further cemented his legacy in 2021 by joining the all-Nepali team that completed the first-ever winter ascent of K2, one of the world’s most dangerous mountains. A year later, he returned to his hometown for the screening of his documentary, proudly telling local residents that he hoped his journey would encourage young people to dream beyond their circumstances. Students attending the memorial said Purja’s story had become an enduring source of inspiration within the school. They remembered him not only as a national hero but also as someone who brought immense pride to Nepal through his courage, determination, and unwavering spirit. As tributes continue to pour in from around the world, Nirmal Purja is being remembered not only for conquering the planet’s highest peaks but also for inspiring generations to believe that no dream is beyond reach.

Hong Kong democracy activist allowed to remain in UK after deportation scare

Former Hong Kong opposition leader Wu Chi-wai has been granted permission to stay in the United Kingdom for six months after initially facing the possibility of deportation upon arriving at Heathrow Airport. The decision ends several days of uncertainty and allows the veteran pro-democracy activist to reunite with his family after years of separation. Wu arrived in London last Wednesday but was detained by UK Border Force officers for nearly 10 hours. Speaking to BBC Chinese, he said officials initially refused him entry and later informed him that he would only be allowed to remain in the country for one week before reporting back to the airport for deportation. However, the situation changed on Monday when UK authorities approved his entry under standard visitor rules, allowing him to stay in the country for up to six months. The 63-year-old is one of Hong Kong’s best known pro-democracy figures and formerly led the now dissolved Democratic Party. He was also among the group widely known as the Hong Kong 47, prominent activists and politicians prosecuted under Hong Kong’s national security law. Wu was released from prison in June after serving more than five years on convictions related to subversion and other charges. Wu said the trip was mainly intended to reunite with his wife and son, who moved to the United Kingdom in 2022 and 2023. During his imprisonment, he said their contact was limited to monthly phone calls and letters, making the visit especially meaningful after years apart. Before leaving Hong Kong, Wu said he sought advice from staff at the British Consulate General regarding his travel plans. According to him, officials assured him there should be no problems entering the UK and said they would inform the UK Border Force about his criminal record and travel itinerary in advance. Wu said border officials questioned whether he was a genuine visitor travelling only to see his family. He also rejected media reports claiming that he intended to seek political asylum in Britain, insisting that he had no such plans. The rights group Hong Kong Watch welcomed the UK’s decision to allow Wu to remain in the country. Policy Director Megan Khoo said the outcome was the correct one and argued that Wu should never have faced the threat of being sent back to the city where he had been imprisoned. Wu entered Britain using a British National Overseas passport, a travel document available to many Hong Kong permanent residents born before the territory’s transfer from British to Chinese rule in 1997. Holders of the passport are generally allowed to visit the UK without a visa for up to six months. The UK introduced a special visa route for British National Overseas passport holders in 2021 following the crackdown on Hong Kong’s pro-democracy movement. The programme allows eligible applicants to live, work and study in Britain and eventually apply for citizenship after meeting residency requirements. Since the scheme began, more than 230,000 Hong Kong residents have received BNO visas, while nearly 170,000 have relocated to the United Kingdom, according to government figures. The UK Home Office declined to comment on Wu’s individual case but reaffirmed its support for the Hong Kong community living in Britain. Meanwhile, the Hong Kong government said it had not received any request for assistance from Wu or other Hong Kong residents regarding the matter.

  • AI won’t replace jobs, says Mark Zuckerberg

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has dismissed one of the most common predictions about artificial intelligence (AI) saying that the technology will not lead to widespread job losses. There has been ongoing debate about the potential risks AI poses to humanity with many experts predicting that millions of people could lose their jobs as AI becomes more advanced. In a recent opinion article written for a U.S. newspaper, Zuckerberg argued that the future of AI will depend less on the technology itself and more on who controls it. He said that advanced AI should be widely accessible to the public rather than being controlled by governments or a handful of powerful organizations. According to Zuckerberg, broader public access to AI will create new opportunities, enable more people to start businesses and ultimately generate more jobs. He also said he finds it surprising that many people working in AI warn that the technology will eliminate large numbers of jobs and reduce humanity’s role while continuing to actively develop it. Zuckerberg added that it is difficult to understand why someone would continue building a technology if they truly believed it was inherently dangerous. He emphasized that he sees AI as a tool that can help people improve their lives and achieve greater success. According to Zuckerberg, history has repeatedly shown that transformative technologies have helped ordinary people progress rather than simply replacing them.
