In a separate operation in Faisalabad, NCCIA apprehended Abdul Rehman and Muhammad Ayaz. Preliminary investigations suggest the pair allegedly blackmailed a married couple using objectionable digital content and are accused of extorting money from them. During the raid, investigators recovered two mobile phones, WhatsApp accounts and alleged objectionable digital material related to several women. The seized evidence has been forwarded for forensic analysis to identify additional victims and any wider criminal network. Meanwhile, in Multan, authorities arrested Farhad Abbas on allegations of sharing a woman’s private photographs and videos on social media and using them to blackmail her. Investigators are reviewing the suspect’s digital records to identify possible accomplices and determine whether more victims may be involved. The NCCIA said forensic examination of the recovered digital evidence is continuing in all cases and investigations are being conducted in accordance with legal procedures. The agency also urged the public, particularly women, to report incidents of online harassment, blackmail, fake social media accounts or any other form of cybercrime without delay so that prompt legal action can be taken against those responsible.

    Transgender protest turns violent in Karachi

    Police have arrested three transgender persons after registering a case over an alleged attack on the Boat Basin police station in Karachi. Authorities said the doors of the Safe City monitoring room were also broken during the incident. Officials stated that police personnel tried to calm the protesters and asked them to remain peaceful. However, they claimed that the group continued its protest and refused to leave the premises. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the protesters also allegedly assaulted members of the public who were present at the police station despite repeated warnings from police officers. Eight transgender persons have been nominated in the case, while investigations are continuing to identify and arrest the remaining suspects. Police said the protest erupted after officials detained several beggars under the Beggary Act on the instructions of the assistant commissioner. During the operation, one transgender person reportedly suffered a nosebleed while being taken into custody. According to police, the injury occurred during the detention process. They alleged that the protesters later presented the incident as a case of police torture, which triggered the protest outside and inside the police station. Authorities said an investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events. Police are also reviewing available evidence, including surveillance footage, to identify everyone involved in the alleged vandalism and attacks on government property.

While intense afternoon conditions pushed daytime maximum temperatures to an average of 89.5 degrees Fahrenheit, ranking as the sixth-warmest daytime average in 132 years of record-keeping. Overnights offered almost no thermal relief, as minimum temperatures averaged 64.2 degrees Fahrenheit across the nation. This smashed the previous overnight low-temperature record set in July 2022 by a staggering 0.7 degrees Fahrenheit. Climatologists point out that uncomfortably warm nights are one of the most definitive signatures of human-driven climate change. High concentrations of greenhouse gases trap outgoing longwave radiation close to the Earth’s surface long after sunset. However, across the Lower 48, the pattern remained stubbornly hot and generally dry. As federal forecasters look ahead, climate projections suggest that the thermal pressure will persist, with above-average temperatures expected to hold firm across much of the central and southern United States well into late summer.
