Netflix finally unveils Pakistan’s biggest series

Pakistan’s first original Netflix series, “Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo,” is reportedly set to premiere by the end of 2026 after facing repeated delays that left fans uncertain about its future.

The series is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by acclaimed writer Farhat Ishtiaq. First published as a serialized story in 2009, the novel later appeared in book form in 2013 and became one of Pakistan’s most popular contemporary romance novels.

The project marks a major milestone for Pakistan’s entertainment industry as it is the country’s first original production created specifically for Netflix. Unlike several Pakistani television dramas that were added to the streaming platform after airing locally, this series was developed exclusively as a Netflix original.

The drama features one of the biggest ensemble casts in Pakistani television. It stars Mahira Khan, Fawad Khan, Bilal Ashraf, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Hania Aamir, Iqra Aziz, Sanam Saeed, Ahad Raza Mir, Nadia Khan, along with several other well-known actors. The series has been directed and produced by Momina Duraid.

The project was initially expected to debut in 2025, but its release was postponed without any official explanation. The delay led to widespread speculation among viewers, with many questioning whether the series would ever reach the streaming platform.

Fresh reports now suggest that post-production work is nearing completion. The final editing process is said to be underway, while promotional activities involving the cast are expected to begin in the coming weeks ahead of the planned release.

Despite the latest update, many fans remain cautious after the long wait. Social media users have expressed excitement about the possibility of finally watching the series but say they will believe the release only when Netflix officially announces the premiere date and makes the episodes available.

If released as expected, “Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo” is likely to become one of Pakistan’s biggest digital entertainment launches, introducing local storytelling to a wider international audience through one of the world’s leading streaming platforms.

2 arrested at Multan Airport over Umrah visa traff…

MULTAN: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested two passengers, including a woman, at Multan International Airport for their alleged involvement in a human trafficking network linked to sexual exploitation in Saudi Arabia. According to an FIA spokesperson, the passengers were intercepted during immigration clearance after officials noticed suspicious behavior. Both had reportedly travelled to Saudi Arabia on Umrah visas. During the subsequent examination of their mobile phones and digital communications, investigators allegedly found material indicating their possible involvement in a scheme involving commercial sexual exploitation. The FIA said its preliminary investigation revealed that an agent had arranged the passengers’ travel to Saudi Arabia under the pretext of performing Umrah. Investigators suspect that the actual purpose was to subject them to commercial sexual exploitation after their arrival in the country. The agency seized the passengers’ mobile phones and other relevant material for further investigation. The two suspects, along with the recovered evidence, were subsequently transferred to the FIA Anti-Human Trafficking Circle in Multan. The FIA has expanded its investigation to trace the alleged agent and identify other individuals connected to the suspected trafficking network. Officials said legal action would be taken against all those found involved in the organized operation.

Foreign nationals among victims of Nizhnekamsk attack, Russia says

At least 13 people were killed in a terrorist attack targeting civilian facilities in Nizhnekamsk, Russia’s Tatarstan region, on August 10, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said most of those killed were foreign nationals. Preliminary information indicated that eight victims were citizens of Uzbekistan, while another victim was from Tajikistan. Around 20 foreign nationals were also reported to have been injured in the attack. Zakharova accused Ukrainian forces of deliberately targeting civilian locations where foreign workers and residents from countries friendly to Russia were present. She claimed the attack was intended to create tensions between Russia and those nations. The Russian official described the incident as a terrorist attack and said such strikes have resulted in the deaths of both Russian citizens and nationals of other countries. The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed condolences to the families and relatives of those killed. It also wished a rapid recovery to those injured. Moscow further urged the international community to condemn what it described as attacks against civilian targets. The accusations were made by the Russian Foreign Ministry as part of its response to the Nizhnekamsk incident. The claims concerning responsibility and the circumstances surrounding the attack could not be independently verified from the statement alone. The incident has raised concerns over the safety of foreign nationals working and living in areas affected by the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Further details about the victims, the extent of the damage and the circumstances of the attack are expected as investigations continue.

Iran’s parliament backs bill criminalizing c…

Iran’s parliament approved the general framework of a bill Sunday that would make it a crime to give interviews or engage in other communication with media outlets considered hostile to the Islamic Republic, including American or Israeli outlets and any media funded by either country, according to Iran’s Shargh newspaper. Osman Salari, a member of parliament’s judicial and legal commission, said individual provisions within the bill, which aims to counter what officials describe as foreign intelligence influence, still require separate debate and approval. He told the Mizan news agency that details reported so far about the bill should not be treated as final. Under the proposed legislation, interviews or participation in discussions with media deemed hostile would be banned outright, with violations carrying prison terms ranging from six months to two years. Interviews with other foreign media outlets would require advance notification to the intelligence ministry, while any contact with foreign embassies, offices of foreign organizations or other non Iranian institutions, conducted without notification and written permission from the foreign ministry, would draw fines and the loss of certain social rights. The bill would also increase penalties for economic crimes carried out under the direction or supervision of foreign actors, prohibit sharing information with foreigners without intelligence ministry approval, and limit scientific cooperation with foreign institutions to those on an approved list. It would further criminalize policy or legislative proposals made under the direction of foreign intelligence services if such proposals are found to harm Iran’s security or independence, with penalties reaching up to 30 years in prison. Cases brought under this provision would fall under the jurisdiction of Iran’s Revolutionary Courts. Parliament will now review the bill article by article. Once lawmakers approve a final text, the legislation must still pass review by the Guardian Council before it can take effect as law. This is not the first time Iran has moved to criminalize cooperation with foreign entities. A law passed in 2025, following a 12 day war with Israel, introduced harsher penalties for alleged cooperation with hostile states. Earlier this month, Iranian photojournalist Yalda Moaiery was sentenced to 15 years in prison under that law over accusations that included giving interviews to media considered hostile and supplying photographs to organizations linked to the United States and Israel.
