Foreign nationals among victims of Nizhnekamsk attack, Russia says

At least 13 people were killed in a terrorist attack targeting civilian facilities in Nizhnekamsk, Russia’s Tatarstan region, on August 10, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said most of those killed were foreign nationals. Preliminary information indicated that eight victims were citizens of Uzbekistan, while another victim was from Tajikistan.

Around 20 foreign nationals were also reported to have been injured in the attack.

Zakharova accused Ukrainian forces of deliberately targeting civilian locations where foreign workers and residents from countries friendly to Russia were present. She claimed the attack was intended to create tensions between Russia and those nations.

The Russian official described the incident as a terrorist attack and said such strikes have resulted in the deaths of both Russian citizens and nationals of other countries.

The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed condolences to the families and relatives of those killed. It also wished a rapid recovery to those injured.

Moscow further urged the international community to condemn what it described as attacks against civilian targets.

The accusations were made by the Russian Foreign Ministry as part of its response to the Nizhnekamsk incident. The claims concerning responsibility and the circumstances surrounding the attack could not be independently verified from the statement alone.

The incident has raised concerns over the safety of foreign nationals working and living in areas affected by the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Further details about the victims, the extent of the damage and the circumstances of the attack are expected as investigations continue.

Mathira urges society to let men express emotions

Television host and social media personality Mathira has urged society to change the way boys are raised, saying men should be allowed to express their emotions without fear of being judged. She believes many men struggle with emotional pressure because they are expected to remain strong at all times while carrying the burden of family and financial responsibilities. Speaking in a recent interview, Mathira said society often teaches boys to hide their feelings from an early age. As they grow older, they become uncomfortable talking about sadness, stress, anxiety, or depression. According to her, this emotional suppression affects their personal lives and relationships. She said many men work tirelessly to support their families but rarely receive emotional support themselves. The pressure to provide and meet expectations often leaves them mentally exhausted. As a result, some find it difficult to become emotionally available as fathers, husbands, sons, or brothers. Mathira stressed that emotional intelligence should be taught during childhood. She said parents play the biggest role in shaping a child’s personality and values. Instead of telling boys to suppress their emotions, families should encourage them to express their feelings openly and honestly. She also rejected the idea that television or social media is responsible for raising children. According to her, parents decide what children watch, what they learn, and the values they adopt. She said children spend their early years learning from their families, making the home environment the most important influence on their development. Mathira emphasized that mothers and fathers should work together to create a safe and supportive atmosphere where children feel comfortable discussing their emotions. She believes such an environment helps children develop confidence, empathy, and healthy communication skills. Sharing her own experience, Mathira said she is raising three sons and has always encouraged them to speak openly about their emotions. She tells them that crying, feeling sad, or admitting they are having a difficult day is completely normal. She believes emotional expression is a sign of honesty and strength rather than weakness. The television host also said she teaches her children to respect women and avoid judging others based on appearance, clothing, or personal choices. Growing up in a household led by women, she said her sons have learned to understand the challenges women often face in society and the importance of treating everyone with dignity and respect. Reflecting on her experience as a divorced single mother, Mathira said both men and women should develop qualities that help build stronger relationships. She believes men should embrace emotional sensitivity, while women should develop confidence and resilience to face life’s challenges.

Shazia Marri demands accountability over PIMS trag…

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and Member of the National Assembly Shazia Marri has strongly criticised the federal government over the deaths of newborn babies in the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) fire, calling the incident a serious example of administrative negligence. In a statement, Marri said innocent children had lost their lives, yet no one appeared to be taking responsibility for the tragedy. She alleged that ordinary citizens were paying the price for what she described as incompetence and poor management by the federal government. Marri demanded that those responsible for the incident be identified and proceeded against according to the law. She questioned the federal health minister’s position, asking what justification there was for remaining in office if the minister could not ensure the safety and proper administration of a major government hospital. The PPP leader said the deaths of newborns could not simply be dismissed as an accident while ignoring possible administrative failures. She called for a transparent and impartial investigation into the PIMS fire and urged authorities to determine whether negligence or shortcomings in hospital management contributed to the loss of lives. Marri also questioned the hospital’s fire safety arrangements and emergency response. She asked where the required safety measures were when the fire broke out and why immediate rescue and emergency procedures could not prevent the deaths. The PPP leader demanded strict legal action against anyone found responsible following the investigation. She said the federal government should accept responsibility for the incident and ensure justice for the families who lost their children. Marri described the loss of innocent lives as irreparable and said those found guilty of negligence should not be given any concession. Her remarks came amid widespread public anger following the PIMS tragedy, which has prompted demands for accountability, improved fire safety systems and stronger emergency preparedness at government hospitals.

FIFA World Cup visitors in Canada file 175 Asylum …

Around 175 foreign nationals who traveled to Canada to attend FIFA World Cup matches have filed applications for political asylum, according to immigration authorities. Canada hosted several FIFA World Cup matches in the cities of Toronto and Vancouver, for which the country issued thousands of temporary visas to international visitors. Many fans from different countries applied for tourist visas to watch the tournament, although a significant number of applications were rejected. After arriving in Canada, 175 visitors submitted asylum claims that will now be reviewed under the country’s refugee protection laws. Immigration officials have not disclosed how many of those seeking asylum were athletes or members of sports delegations. According to available information, 25 individuals from Ghana have filed asylum applications, while 15 applicants each from Egypt and Colombia have also requested protection in Canada. Officials have indicated that the number of applications could increase further. Canadian authorities had previously warned foreign visitors that obtaining a visa for FIFA World Cup travel does not provide a pathway to remain in the country beyond the permitted period or automatically qualify them for asylum. The asylum claims will undergo a legal assessment, during which Canadian immigration authorities will determine whether applicants meet the requirements for refugee protection under the country’s immigration system. The development has drawn attention as Canada continues to manage increased international travel and immigration applications linked to major global events.
