Mathira urges society to let men express emotions

Television host and social media personality Mathira has urged society to change the way boys are raised, saying men should be allowed to express their emotions without fear of being judged. She believes many men struggle with emotional pressure because they are expected to remain strong at all times while carrying the burden of family and financial responsibilities.

Speaking in a recent interview, Mathira said society often teaches boys to hide their feelings from an early age. As they grow older, they become uncomfortable talking about sadness, stress, anxiety, or depression. According to her, this emotional suppression affects their personal lives and relationships.

She said many men work tirelessly to support their families but rarely receive emotional support themselves. The pressure to provide and meet expectations often leaves them mentally exhausted. As a result, some find it difficult to become emotionally available as fathers, husbands, sons, or brothers.

Mathira stressed that emotional intelligence should be taught during childhood. She said parents play the biggest role in shaping a child’s personality and values. Instead of telling boys to suppress their emotions, families should encourage them to express their feelings openly and honestly.

She also rejected the idea that television or social media is responsible for raising children. According to her, parents decide what children watch, what they learn, and the values they adopt. She said children spend their early years learning from their families, making the home environment the most important influence on their development.

Mathira emphasized that mothers and fathers should work together to create a safe and supportive atmosphere where children feel comfortable discussing their emotions. She believes such an environment helps children develop confidence, empathy, and healthy communication skills.

Sharing her own experience, Mathira said she is raising three sons and has always encouraged them to speak openly about their emotions. She tells them that crying, feeling sad, or admitting they are having a difficult day is completely normal. She believes emotional expression is a sign of honesty and strength rather than weakness.

The television host also said she teaches her children to respect women and avoid judging others based on appearance, clothing, or personal choices. Growing up in a household led by women, she said her sons have learned to understand the challenges women often face in society and the importance of treating everyone with dignity and respect.

Reflecting on her experience as a divorced single mother, Mathira said both men and women should develop qualities that help build stronger relationships. She believes men should embrace emotional sensitivity, while women should develop confidence and resilience to face life’s challenges.

    Iranian footballers become Australian citizens

Two Iranian women footballers who refused to publicly support their government’s stance during an international tournament have officially become Australian citizens after seeking protection in Australia earlier this year. Atefeh Ramezanisadeh, 34, and Fatemeh Pasandideh, 22, received their Australian citizenship at a ceremony in Brisbane on Wednesday, marking the end of a journey that began when they chose not to return to Iran following the Women’s Asian Cup. The pair were among seven members of Iran’s national women’s football team who were granted humanitarian visas while in Australia. However, five of the players later returned to Iran, while Ramezanisadeh and Pasandideh remained, citing concerns about their safety. The players drew international attention after refusing to sing Iran’s national anthem before their opening match during the tournament. Their silent protest came amid heightened tensions following the conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel, raising fears they could face punishment if they returned home. Australian authorities allowed the athletes to seek asylum after appeals from members of the Iranian community living in Australia. Their citizenship was formally granted at a ceremony attended by Australia’s Interior Minister, Tony Burke. Speaking after the ceremony, Pasandideh described becoming an Australian citizen as the beginning of a new chapter in her life, while Ramezanisadeh said the moment reflected years of hardship and sacrifice. Both expressed gratitude for the opportunity to build a future in Australia. The footballers are now training with Brisbane Roar FC Women and hope to continue their professional football careers in the country. Their decision to remain in Australia followed reports that Iranian state media criticised members of the national team for remaining silent during the anthem, with some commentators branding them disloyal. Human rights advocates also voiced concerns that players who returned to Iran may have faced pressure through threats directed at their families.

Colombia earthquake death toll crosses 250

The death toll from a powerful earthquake in western Colombia has crossed 250 as rescue teams continue searching through collapsed buildings for survivors. The 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck the country’s coffee-growing region early Monday. It caused widespread destruction across several cities and surrounding areas. Local authorities reported that at least 254 people had died by Tuesday morning. Pereira recorded 101 deaths, while 95 fatalities were reported in Cali, Colombia’s third-largest city. Rescue workers have been operating around the clock in the worst-hit areas. They are using cranes, excavators and heavy machinery to remove huge sections of concrete. In some locations, rescuers have been forced to work with their hands. Volunteers have also joined the search, forming human chains to move debris away from collapsed structures. Families have gathered near damaged buildings while waiting for news of relatives who may still be trapped. Rescue workers have reported finding both survivors and bodies beneath the rubble. The earthquake severely damaged homes, apartment buildings, schools and medical facilities. Some structures were completely destroyed, while others were left unstable and unsafe for residents. Cali suffered major damage. Several upper floors of a hospital collapsed, including areas used for paediatric treatment. Hospital officials said some patients became trapped, while hundreds of others were treated outside the damaged facility. The city’s morgue reached capacity as authorities continued bringing in victims from affected areas. Medical and emergency services have been working under difficult conditions. The United Nations humanitarian office estimated that around 5,000 homes had been damaged. Dozens of buildings collapsed, while hundreds of other residences were destroyed or seriously affected. The earthquake also disrupted essential infrastructure. Electricity, water supplies, healthcare services and telecommunications were affected in several areas. Authorities also closed six airports because of damage. Roads were damaged in multiple locations, creating additional difficulties for rescue teams and the delivery of emergency supplies. The region near the epicentre has faced particularly severe disruption. Poor communications have made it difficult for authorities to assess the full scale of the disaster. Nearly 100 aftershocks were recorded by Tuesday morning. Officials have warned residents and rescue workers to remain cautious as damaged buildings could collapse during further tremors. President Abelardo De La Espriella visited the affected region and announced a three-month economic relief measure for residents of Risaralda. The government said the initiative was intended to support people and businesses affected by the disaster. International assistance has also begun. The United States announced $15.5 million in emergency support for shelter, food, protection and damage assessments. The Inter-American Development Bank said $50 million could immediately be made available for reconstruction support if requested by the Colombian government. The United Nations said it was expanding its presence in the affected region to support humanitarian operations. Officials cautioned that the final death toll and overall scale of the destruction could take several days to establish because communications remain disrupted in some of the hardest-hit areas.

Tarar calls for stronger narrative against terrori…

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has called for a stronger national effort to counter terrorism, extremism and misinformation, saying Pakistan’s fight against militancy cannot be limited to security operations. Addressing a capacity-building workshop in Islamabad, Tarar said the country also needed to win the battle of narratives by addressing misinformation and reducing the gap between public perception and facts. He said Pakistan had made considerable progress against terrorism through coordinated efforts by the federal and provincial governments, security forces and other state institutions. The National Action Plan, he added, had played an important role in bringing stakeholders together. According to Tarar, Pakistan’s security situation had improved significantly by 2017, allowing economic activity and investment to recover. However, he argued that a subsequent policy shift weakened years of counter-terrorism efforts. The minister stressed that national security policies should have continuity and should not change with changes in government. He called for political parties to develop consensus on major national policies so that long-term strategies could continue regardless of which party was in power. Tarar also highlighted the importance of Pakistan’s international narrative. He said the country had suffered heavily from terrorism and had made significant sacrifices involving security personnel, political figures, professionals and civilians. He said Pakistan had increasingly used international media platforms to present its position and challenge what it described as misleading narratives about terrorism and regional security. Discussing tensions with India following the Pahalgam incident, Tarar questioned the version of events presented by New Delhi. He reiterated Pakistan’s call for a transparent and internationally conducted investigation and said the country had sought to address the issue through diplomatic and media channels. The minister said terrorism had no religion, colour or ethnicity and maintained that the state would not allow violent groups to impose their ideologies on society. He warned that militant organisations were increasingly shifting their focus towards vulnerable and “soft” targets after facing pressure from security forces. He cited the Jaffar Express attack as an example and praised security agencies for their response. Tarar also raised concerns over the role of digital platforms in spreading extremist material and misinformation. He said the government was strengthening its legal and institutional mechanisms to deal with cybercrime and harmful online narratives. He said a Digital Communication Department had been established using modern technologies, including artificial intelligence-based monitoring and speech-to-text systems, to identify emerging narratives in the digital space. According to the minister, provincial governments were also being offered assistance in establishing similar communication structures. Tarar said state institutions also needed to promote Pakistan’s positive image by highlighting its culture, tourism, music, cuisine and arts. He praised Pakistan Television for contributing to efforts aimed at presenting a broader image of the country. He also stressed the need for better communication and timely reporting from Balochistan. The government, he said, was willing to support television networks in establishing bureaux in the province’s southern districts. Speaking about Balochistan, Tarar said development and security remained key government priorities. He highlighted infrastructure and counter-terrorism measures and said political stability and economic development were essential to addressing long-term challenges. The minister also cited Rescue 1122 as an example of a public policy that continued beyond political changes. He argued that successful national programmes should be preserved and expanded rather than discontinued because of political differences.

Tom Holland breaks silence on brand-new project after Spider-Man

Hollywood superstar Tom Holland has broken his silence regarding his latest creative venture outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe, opening up about his decision to prioritize Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated cinematic epic The Odyssey alongside his wife, Zendaya. Speaking during a recent promotional tour for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the 30-year-old actor addressed rumors surrounding production overlaps between the two blockbuster projects. Holland disclosed that filming schedules for Nolan’s ambitious adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek saga initially clashed directly with the filming timeline for his upcoming Fourth Spider-Man installment, creating a major professional dilemma. Holland revealed that his decision to lock in the role in Nolan’s film was heavily influenced by a playful yet decisive nudge from Zendaya. Recalling the pivotal moment when the opportunity arose, Holland shared that Zendaya delivered a humorous ultimatum, urging him not to pass up the chance to work with the legendary director: ”Zendaya jokingly looked at me and said, ‘If you turn down Christopher Nolan, I’m leaving you.’ In all seriousness, working with Nolan has been a lifelong dream, and having Zendaya push me to take that leap made all the difference. It required some very uncomfortable schedule negotiations, but it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.” The scheduling conflict required Holland to hold tough conversations with Sony Pictures executives to delay the production start of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, allowing him to complete filming on The Odyssey first. The Nolan-directed epic, which features an all-star ensemble cast including Holland, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, and Matt Damon, marks the couple’s first major feature film collaboration outside the Spider-Man franchise. Reflecting on his expanding filmography, Holland noted that stepping into non-superhero roles under visionaries like Nolan has allowed him to mature as an actor. While he remains deeply devoted to Peter Parker, Holland emphasized that exploring grounded, complex character studies is essential for his long-term artistic growth. With Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey both generating massive global anticipation, Holland’s willingness to navigate high-stakes industry negotiations highlights his evolving standing as one of Hollywood’s most sought-after leading men.
