Avatar: Seven Havens gets October premiere date

The Avatar universe is expanding in a bold and dramatic new direction. Paramount+ has unveiled the first teaser for Avatar: Seven Havens, a new animated series set in a world shattered by catastrophe, and confirmed that the show will premiere on October 9, 2026.
The teaser is dark, atmospheric and immediately striking in tone, a significant departure from the warmth and adventure that characterised the original Avatar: The Last Airbender. What it offers instead is a world in ruins, a new Avatar burdened by a deeply complicated legacy, and a story that promises to push the franchise into grittier and more urgent territory.
The October 9 date itself carries a certain significance. It had originally been earmarked for the release of Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, a separate project within the franchise, before that film’s schedule shifted following an online leak. Seven Havens has now stepped into that slot.
The series follows a young earthbender who discovers she is the new Avatar after Korra, emerging in a world that has been devastated by a cataclysmic event. In this dangerous and fractured era, being the Avatar is not a source of hope or admiration for those around her. It marks her instead as a figure of fear, seen by many as humanity’s destroyer rather than its saviour. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover the truth about their origins and find a way to save the Seven Havens before the last remaining strongholds of civilisation collapse entirely.
The cast assembled for the series is a strong one. Saheli Khan leads as Pavi, joined by Aishu Devan as Nisha, Akshay Khanna as Karthik, Major Curda as Jae, Sakina Jaffrey as Agam, Darren Barnet as Daemin, Dianne Doan as Zi, and Dee Bradley Baker, the beloved voice of Appa and Momo from the original series, voicing Geet and Ruhi.
The show follows the two-book structure familiar to fans of the original series, with 26 episodes ordered in total, each book comprising 13 episodes. Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon are producing the series, with original franchise creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko serving as executive producers alongside director Ethan Spaulding and co-executive producer Sehaj Sethi.
The original Avatar: The Last Airbender, which first aired in 2005, is widely regarded as one of the greatest animated series ever made. It was followed by The Legend of Korra in 2012. Seven Havens now continues that legacy into a darker and more complex chapter, and if the teaser is any indication, it has every intention of earning its place in that company.

A Democratic victory in the House would dramatically shift the balance of power in Washington. Such authority could open the door to fresh inquiries into government decisions and even fuel discussions about another attempt to impeach the president. Republicans currently hold only a slim majority in the House, making it easier for Democrats to take control if just a small number of seats change hands. Political analysts say several national issues are making the election environment more difficult for Republicans. Rising living costs remain one of the biggest concerns among voters. Fuel prices have climbed above four dollars per gallon following disruptions in global energy markets linked to the conflict with Iran.     Six bullet-riddled bodies found across Balochistan

    QUETTA: A wave of violence and tragic accidents swept across Balochistan on Tuesday, as authorities recovered six bullet-riddled bodies from four districts while eight more people, including two women, lost their lives in separate incidents of gunfire, a roadside explosion, a fuel tanker fire and a deadly road crash. According to police officials, the bodies of six unidentified men were recovered from Kalat, Mastung, Panjgur and Kharan, prompting multiple investigations into the killings. Three of the bodies were discovered in different areas of Kalat district. Two were found dumped in the Rej locality after local authorities received information from residents, while another body was recovered from the Chhapar area. All three were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for identification, but officials said their identities had not yet been established. In Mastung, police recovered another unidentified man’s body from the Jungle area after receiving reports from local residents. Preliminary investigations suggest the deceased may have been a drug addict, though authorities said the exact cause and circumstances of his death are still being examined. The fifth body was found in Nowan Kur, Panjgur, where police believe the victim was shot dead by unidentified attackers before his body was abandoned. In Kharan, authorities recovered the body of a man who had reportedly been abducted by armed men two days earlier after they stormed his home. His body was later found on the outskirts of the city with bullet wounds. Separate incidents elsewhere in the province added to the death toll. In Kalat’s Mangochar area, unidentified gunmen opened fire on a family travelling from Zhob to Karachi after their driver allegedly failed to stop at a signal. Two women were killed in the attack, while a child sustained injuries and was taken to hospital. Meanwhile, an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near the N-65 National Highway in Mastung, killing a driver and injuring five others. The explosion severely damaged an LPG tanker and two trailers. In Quetta, two people were burned to death after an oil tanker caught fire at a petrol pump near Sariab Customs. In another tragedy, three people were killed in a head-on collision between two vehicles on the Quetta-Karachi National Highway in the Surab area. Police have launched investigations into the shootings and explosions, while authorities continue efforts to identify the unidentified victims and determine those responsible for the attacks.

    CAIRO: Egypt has started a serious review of the possibility of joining the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said Cairo has close and strategic relations with all three countries. He said Egypt’s ties with Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye extend beyond political cooperation. Abdelatty was asked about Egypt’s possible inclusion in the defence agreement. He said Egypt has been aware of the pact since the beginning. He confirmed that Egyptian state institutions are currently conducting a comprehensive assessment of the agreement. The minister said no final decision has been taken yet. He added that the relevant Egyptian authorities are examining the agreement and its possible implications. Abdelatty stressed that defence agreements involve important commitments. Therefore, Egypt must carefully assess all legal and constitutional aspects before making a decision. He said any possible Egyptian participation would have to comply with the country’s Constitution and existing legal requirements. The review will also consider the responsibilities that could arise from joining the agreement. The development comes days after Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement. The pact seeks to strengthen defence cooperation among the three countries and enhance their collective security. Under the agreement, an attack against any one of the three countries would be considered an attack against all three. The arrangement has been described as a major step towards closer defence and strategic cooperation.

    Rs4.21bn collected, thousands await housing

    Islamabad: The Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works raised serious concerns over delays in major federal housing projects, where thousands of allottees have waited years for possession of their plots and apartments despite making payments. The committee decided to summon the Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in its next meeting to brief it on investigations, inquiries and legal issues related to delayed housing projects managed by the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA). The decision came after lawmakers expressed frustration over the long delays in the Green Enclave I project in Bara Kahu, Islamabad, where some allottees have reportedly waited years for possession after making payments for many years. The Senate committee, chaired by Senator Nasir Mehmood, reviewed the progress of several housing schemes and questioned why projects launched for public sector employees and other members had remained incomplete for such a long period. During the briefing, officials informed the committee about the status of housing schemes managed by FGEHA and the PHA Foundation. While reviewing the Green Enclave I project in Bara Kahu, the committee learned that land acquisition started in 2009 and the project covers around 3,375 kanals. Members expressed concern that despite a construction agreement being signed in 2019, physical development work remains suspended due to disputes related to contracts, work execution and security requirements. The committee was told that many allottees had been making payments since 2008 but had still not received physical possession of their plots. Lawmakers questioned how citizens could continue waiting for years after fulfilling their financial responsibilities. Housing officials informed the committee that development work could restart after approval from the relevant board once contractual disputes are resolved. However, members expressed dissatisfaction over the continued delay and decided to seek answers from NAB regarding the matter. The committee also reviewed the Green Enclave II or Sky Garden Housing Scheme located in Mauza Kathar and Mauza Mangal. Officials informed the committee that the project covers around 7,300 kanals and that more than 2,455 consent notices have been issued. The committee was informed that over Rs4.21 billion had been collected from members under different categories. Officials said land related issues in Mauza Kathar had been resolved, while the court decided legal disputes regarding Mauza Mangal in favour of FGEHA in April 2026. The committee reviewed the expected development timeline and was informed that block wise plot handovers are planned between December 2026 and March 2027. To remove administrative delays, the committee decided to call the Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi for a detailed briefing in the next meeting. The committee also examined the EHFPRO Lifestyle Residency Apartments project in Sector G 13, Islamabad. Officials informed lawmakers that around 70 percent of the physical work had been completed, but the project faced serious problems due to rising construction costs after COVID 19, financial difficulties and the death of the private contractor. Following repeated violations, the joint venture agreement was terminated and FGEHA took control of the project. Officials said they are now trying to restart the project through a Public Private Partnership model to avoid placing additional financial pressure on allottees. The committee was informed that the project’s planning approval has been completed and the process to select a new partner is underway. Members directed the ministry to provide regular updates on the progress of the project. The Senate committee also reviewed the PHA F Residencia Project on Kuchlak Road, Quetta, and other government housing facilities. Officials informed the committee that the Quetta project has achieved around 50 percent physical progress. They said construction work has progressed on houses and apartment blocks, while additional units are being processed through new tendering. The committee also reviewed maintenance work at Federal Lodges and noted improvements in cleaning, repairs, and electrical work. Members discussed issues faced by residents, including water supply, drainage and basic facilities at some housing schemes. Officials informed the committee that discussions were ongoing between housing authorities and residents’ representatives to solve these problems. The committee also reminded residents that any unauthorised changes in buildings must be regularised through the Capital Development Authority. Senator Nasir Mehmood stressed that housing projects involving public money must be completed on time and that the rights of allottees must be protected. The committee said delays in public housing schemes create financial and emotional difficulties for citizens and directed relevant departments to improve transparency and speed up development work.
