Imran Khan is healthy, Khawaja Asif declares

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan is in good health, adding that details of his medical condition will eventually be made public.

Speaking during a session of the National Assembly, Asif said Imran’s sister had met him and could explain the former prime minister’s current health condition.

He said Imran’s eye problem had gradually improved. However, he added that Imran was experiencing a minor blood pressure issue and was being given medication for it.

Asif said it was inappropriate to turn Imran’s health into a political issue or give the matter a political colour.

Referring to his own experience in prison, the defence minister said he had once been told that he required surgery for a hernia while he was incarcerated. He claimed that Imran had demanded a video at the time to verify whether the surgery was actually taking place.

Asif said he still had that video.

He added that Imran’s medical report should be reviewed by everyone concerned. “I say on oath that there is no serious issue with Imran Khan,” he said.

The defence minister also referred to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, saying he had undergone two surgeries around two months ago. Despite this, Asif said, discussions about Sharif’s platelet count still continued.

Asif accused Imran of previously mocking Nawaz Sharif’s health problems, particularly his platelet count. He said there were hundreds of videos showing Imran making remarks about the issue.

He further claimed that Imran had also mocked illnesses during rallies held in the United States, arguing that he had failed to recognise at the time that illness was a genuine matter.

The defence minister also recalled the imprisonment of political leaders in the past. He said opposition leaders had been jailed while their colleagues continued attending parliamentary sessions without making threats or linking government business to their release.

    Security forces intensify K-P anti-terror operatio…

Security forces have stepped up intelligence-based operations (IBOs) across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the Azm-e-Istehkam campaign, targeting militant hideouts and disrupting terrorist networks in several areas over the past two months, according to security sources. Officials said one of the major operations was carried out in the Khatti Killi area of North Waziristan, where security forces raided suspected militant hideouts following intelligence reports. During the operation, several terrorists were killed after an exchange of fire, while others sustained injuries and managed to flee. Security sources said troops recovered a large cache of weapons, ammunition and communication equipment from the militants’ hideouts. The recovered material is expected to assist investigators in tracing the activities and support networks of militant groups operating in the region. According to officials, the operations specifically targeted members of Fitna al-Khawarij, the term used by the state for the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Authorities said the campaign was conducted with great care to protect civilians and prevent damage to local communities. Security officials emphasised that the ongoing operations are aimed at eliminating terrorist threats, restoring law and order, and ensuring lasting peace across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They reaffirmed that intelligence-led operations would continue until militant networks are dismantled and terrorism is eradicated. The latest operations are part of the broader Azm-e-Istehkam strategy launched to strengthen counterterrorism efforts nationwide. The campaign focuses on targeted intelligence operations against militant groups while enhancing the security of vulnerable areas. Last week, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said security forces had carried out more than 40,000 intelligence-based operations across Pakistan so far this year, with a significant number conducted in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said nearly 194 intelligence-based operations are being conducted daily across the country. According to the military spokesperson, security forces have eliminated more than 2,000 terrorists during 2026, reflecting the intensified pace of counterterrorism operations.

Hilaria Baldwin shares hilarious parenting mix-up …

Hilaria Baldwin is embracing the chaos of life as a mother of seven, admitting that raising a large family often leads to funny and unforgettable moments. During a recent interview, the wellness entrepreneur shared that keeping track of seven children can sometimes become so overwhelming that she occasionally mixes up their names, something many parents can relate to. Speaking candidly about family life, Hilaria laughed as she confessed that there are days when she accidentally calls one child by another’s name. She explained that with so many busy schedules, school activities and daily routines, moments of confusion are almost inevitable. “It’s just part of having a big family,” she joked, adding that her children have learned to laugh about the mix-ups rather than take them seriously. According to Hilaria, the occasional mistake has become a normal part of life in the Baldwin household. The 42-year-old shares seven children with actor Alec Baldwin, and together they have built a lively home filled with constant activity. While caring for such a large family may seem overwhelming from the outside, Hilaria says she and Alec have found a system that works well for them. She revealed that parenting is very much a team effort. Rather than assigning one parent to every responsibility, the couple divides tasks depending on the day’s schedule. Whether it’s preparing meals, helping with homework, attending school events or putting the children to bed, they support each other to ensure everything gets done. Hilaria explained that flexibility has become the key to managing their household. Some days Alec takes on more responsibilities, while on other days she steps in to handle the majority of the family’s needs. Their ability to communicate and adapt has helped them navigate the demands of raising seven children together. The author also acknowledged that parenting is rarely perfect. She said there are moments of exhaustion, unexpected challenges and plenty of laughter along the way. Instead of striving for perfection, she believes it’s more important to create a loving environment where children feel supported and understood. Her honest comments resonated with many parents online, who praised her willingness to discuss the realities of family life rather than presenting an unrealistic image of perfection. Many social media users admitted they also mix up their children’s names, even in much smaller families. Hilaria has frequently shared glimpses of her home life on social media, offering followers a look at both the joyful and challenging moments of parenting. Her latest interview continues that tradition, highlighting the humor that often comes with raising a large family. Despite the occasional name mix-up, Hilaria made one thing clear: every moment with her children is meaningful. While life with seven kids can be hectic, she says the laughter, love and unforgettable memories make every challenge worthwhile. Her candid reflections offer a reminder that even celebrity families experience the same everyday parenting moments as everyone else.

    Punjab’s Rs 40bn centralized medical tender trig…

LAHORE: A Rs40 billion centralized procurement of surgical and medical disposables by Punjab has landed under the scanner after Minute Mirror examined official procurement documents. Managed directly by the Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education (SHC&ME) Department, this multi-billion-rupee initiative represents the province’s first centralized framework contract, effectively replacing the long-standing decentralized system under which individual public teaching hospitals and medical institutions conducted their own independent competitive bidding processes. While the primary objective of centralizing such a massive health department exercise was to leverage bulk purchasing power, lower overall market rates and enhance institutional transparency, an analysis of the purchase indicates sharp price increases, significant market distortions, and severely restricted commercial competition. According to documents available with Minute Mirror, out of 125 evaluated medical device categories, a staggering 50 items, representing 40 percent of the entire tender portfolio, attracted only a single responsive bidder. Furthermore, 45 item categories yielded just two responsive bidders, while 22 categories managed to attract three bidders. Procurement specialists and governance experts point out that although provincial procurement rules do not strictly prohibit single-bidder contract awards, relying on sole suppliers for such a vast portion of a multi-billion-rupee contract severely undermines competitive price discovery, weakens public sector bargaining power and risks creating artificial vendor monopolies across public sector healthcare facilities. Rather than securing bulk-buying discounts for taxpayers, the comparative statement demonstrates widespread price inflation when measured against established benchmark prices from the Director General Health Services (DGHS). Out of 23 medical disposables with available DGHS reference rates, 18 items, nearly 80 percent, registered dramatic price escalations. According to documents, the rate increases are most glaring among routine, high-volume surgical supplies used daily across hospital emergency rooms and operating theaters. Surgical blades across sizes 11, 15, 22, and 23 witnessed a steep 470 percent surge, rising from the benchmark rate of Rs 13.67 to Rs 78 per piece. Black braided silk sutures saw price hikes of up to 275 percent, jumping from Rs 77 to Rs 289 per unit. Similarly, essential 24G IV cannulas climbed 154 percent from Rs 96.30 to Rs 245 each, while standard blood transfusion sets increased by 40 percent, escalating from Rs 105 to Rs 147.56 per unit. The financial evaluation has also drawn strong criticism from participating firms for appearing inconsistent with earlier proceedings conducted by the Grievance Redressal Committee (GRC). During those formal hearings, several bidding vendors submitted extensive technical objections regarding bidder qualification criteria, product specification compliance, and regulatory eligibility. Stakeholders argue that the comparative evaluation sheet reflects financial outcomes that directly diverge from the issues debated and documented before the grievance committee. Legal experts contend that any apparent divergence between grievance proceedings and financial outcomes must be clearly explained through detailed, reasoned written orders to maintain public trust, uphold administrative fairness, and withstand prospective judicial scrutiny. Given the immense scale of public spending and the critical reliance of public teaching hospitals on these vital medical supplies, transparency advocates and healthcare commentators urged the provincial authorities to ensure institutional accountability, preserve regulatory compliance, and safeguard the overall integrity of Punjab’s largest public healthcare procurement exercise.

Security forces kill 10 militants in two Khyber Pa…

Security forces have killed 10 militants of Fitna al-Khawarij in two separate operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The first operation was conducted in the Azam Warsak area of South Waziristan district after a group of militants attacked security forces’ check posts. According to ISPR, security personnel responded effectively to the attack, resulting in an exchange of fire. Eight militants were killed during the operation. The second operation was carried out in Dir district, where security forces killed two more militants. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the possession of the slain militants. ISPR said the militants killed in the operations had been involved in several terrorist activities in the area. The military’s media wing said security forces are continuing intelligence-based counterterrorism operations under the government’s vision of “Azm-e-Istehkam” to eliminate terrorism and maintain peace and stability in the region.

North Korea issues fresh warning to US allies

PYONGYANG: North Korea has accused the United States, Japan and South Korea of creating a new security crisis in the Asia-Pacific, claiming their expanding military cooperation is increasing regional tensions and threatening stability. In a commentary published by the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), a military commentator alleged that the three allies are strengthening their joint combat capabilities through large-scale military exercises and closer defence coordination. The statement specifically criticized the recently concluded Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) naval exercise, describing it as a rehearsal for military aggression rather than a routine multinational drill. According to North Korean officials, the exercise involved more than 30,000 personnel, over 30 warships, five submarines and nearly 190 aircraft. Pyongyang claimed the United States is attempting to strengthen its military influence across the Asia-Pacific with the support of Japan and South Korea. It also objected to recent US-South Korea air force and logistics exercises, plans to expand American military command structures in Japan and the deployment of advanced US missile systems in the region. North Korea warned that it would respond to what it described as growing military threats by further strengthening its own deterrence capabilities. Officials said any increase in external pressure would be met with corresponding defensive measures. Separately, North Korea’s Foreign Ministry rejected recent accusations by the United States and its allies that Pyongyang poses a growing cyber threat. The ministry dismissed the allegations as politically motivated and without evidence. A foreign ministry spokesperson argued that the United States has been expanding military activities in cyberspace through cyber commands, joint cyber exercises and the use of artificial intelligence in defence operations. The spokesperson claimed Washington, rather than Pyongyang, was contributing to rising tensions in the cyber domain. North Korea reaffirmed that it would continue taking measures to safeguard its national security and protect its development interests against what it described as increasing pressure from Western countries.
