ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has rejected allegations by the Afghan Taliban that Pakistani forces were involved in or supported armed opposition groups during violence in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province.

The Ministry of Information dismissed the allegations as baseless and said no credible evidence had been presented to support the claims.

The ministry issued the response after Afghan Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid alleged in an interview with Aamaj News that Pakistani authorities were physically involved in the unrest in Badakhshan.

Pakistan strongly rejected the assertion and said the claim did not reflect the facts on the ground.

According to the Ministry of Information, the situation in Badakhshan is linked to Afghanistan’s own internal security and governance challenges. It maintained that there was no evidence establishing Pakistani involvement in the violence.

The ministry said independent reports had described the clashes as an armed conflict involving opposition to what it called the Taliban’s non-inclusive and oppressive rule. It added that such reporting had not established any Pakistani role in the fighting.

Pakistan also reiterated its stated position that it wants peace and stability in Afghanistan. The ministry said Islamabad had no interest in destabilising its neighbouring country.

It urged the Afghan Taliban authorities to focus on addressing the challenges emerging from their own governance rather than attributing Afghanistan’s internal problems to Pakistan.

The ministry stressed that allegations unsupported by evidence could not replace established facts.

Pakistan has repeatedly called for a peaceful and stable Afghanistan and has maintained that instability inside the neighbouring country should be addressed through political and internal measures.

    Shaheen Afridi gives cautious reply on Pakistan captaincy

    Pakistan ODI captain Shaheen Shah Afridi has avoided giving a long-term commitment about his leadership ahead of the 2027 ICC World Cup, saying that he remains captain “for now”. Speaking at a joint press conference with the captains of the teams participating in the National Champions Cup, Shaheen was asked whether he had received assurances that he would continue leading Pakistan until the World Cup. His response was brief. “For now, I am the captain,” he said. The left-arm fast bowler also stressed the importance of the Champions Cup in preparing Pakistan for the global tournament. He said the competition would help the national team build a wider pool of players and identify suitable replacements in case of injuries. Shaheen pointed out that injuries have frequently affected Pakistan’s World Cup campaigns. He said having additional players ready would make it easier for the team management to deal with any fitness concerns before the 2027 tournament.     Women who helped shape the Pakistan movement

      When the history of Pakistan’s independence is discussed, the narrative often focuses on the male political leaders who negotiated with the British, addressed large public gatherings and worked toward the creation of a separate homeland. However, women also played an important and often overlooked role in the Pakistan Movement. They organised political activities, mobilised communities, created awareness, participated in protests, assisted refugees and challenged traditional expectations about women’s place in public life. Among the prominent women of the movement, Fatima Jinnah remains one of the most widely recognised figures. However, her contribution extended far beyond her relationship with Muhammad Ali Jinnah as his sister. She worked closely with her brother and played an active role in encouraging Muslim women to participate in political activities. At a time when women’s involvement in public politics was socially restricted, Fatima Jinnah’s visibility carried considerable significance. Her participation demonstrated that the struggle for Pakistan was not intended to be limited to men. She became an important symbol of women’s political participation and helped encourage Muslim women to take an active interest in the future of the community. Following Partition in 1947, Fatima Jinnah continued her public service. She became involved in efforts to support refugees and assist with their rehabilitation. She also continued to speak for greater participation of women in the political and social development of Pakistan. Another important figure was Abadi Bano Begum, popularly known as Bi Amma. Long before the demand for Pakistan became the central political objective of Indian Muslims, Bi Amma had already demonstrated that Muslim women could play a role in political movements. She was the mother of prominent leaders Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar and Maulana Shaukat Ali and became actively involved in the Khilafat Movement. Bi Amma addressed public gatherings and encouraged people to support the political struggle against British rule. Her involvement was significant because political activism was still considered unusual for many Muslim women. By entering the public sphere, she helped challenge the idea that politics was exclusively a man’s responsibility. Begum Jahan Ara Shah Nawaz was another influential woman associated with Muslim League politics. Rather than remaining a passive supporter, she actively participated in political mobilisation and worked to increase women’s involvement in the Pakistan Movement. During the politically tense period of 1946–47, Muslim League women participated in protests in Punjab, with some even facing arrest. Her political involvement had begun well before Pakistan was established. She participated in the First Round Table Conference and raised concerns about discrimination against women in political rights, government employment, business and professional opportunities. After independence, Begum Jahan Ara Shah Nawaz became one of the two women members of Pakistan’s first Constituent Assembly. Alongside Shaista Ikramullah, she worked to bring women’s rights and legal equality into discussions about the new state. The contributions of these women show that Pakistan’s independence was not achieved through the efforts of men alone. Women participated in political mobilisation, social reform and nation-building, helping establish the principle that they had a legitimate and important role in Pakistan’s public life.

    HANGU: Ten police personnel, including DSP City Diyar Khan, who embraced martyrdom in the terrorist attack on the Khazina Banda Check Post in Hangu, were laid to rest with full state honours on Wednesday. The funeral prayers were offered at the Police Lines, Hangu, where senior police officers, government officials, fellow policemen and local dignitaries paid tribute to the fallen heroes. Commandant Police Training College Hangu, Shaukat Abbas, Deputy Commissioner Basir Ali Rehman, senior police officials and a large number of citizens attended the funeral. Floral wreaths were laid on the coffins of the martyrs in recognition of their supreme sacrifice. After the funeral, the bodies were dispatched to their native towns for burial with full official honours. According to police officials, terrorists belonging to the banned Fitna Al-Khawarij launched a coordinated assault on the Khazina Banda Check Post late Tuesday night. The attackers reportedly used quadcopters before laying siege to the check post. Police personnel stationed at the post resisted the assault bravely and continued fighting until the last moment. Upon receiving information about the attack, DSP City Diyar Khan led a reinforcement party comprising personnel from the Elite Force, RRF and Al-Barq Force. However, the police convoy was ambushed near the Khazina Banda Bridge, where heavily armed militants had already taken positions. Despite the surprise attack, the police fought courageously in defence of the country. The attack claimed the lives of 10 police personnel, including DSP Diyar Khan, while around 30 others were injured. Police officials said that during the exchange of fire, 12 to 15 terrorists were killed or wounded, and their accomplices reportedly carried the casualties towards the Zargari area. Following the incident, police and security forces launched a large scale search operation in the area. Funeral prayers for the martyrs were also held in their respective hometowns. Police Constable Nadeem was laid to rest in Sheikhan, while Constable Sanaullah was buried in Lachi, both with full state honours. Smartly turned out police contingents presented ceremonial salutes, and senior police officers, political leaders, social figures and hundreds of residents attended the funerals. Similarly, the funeral prayer of martyred police constable Abdul Saeed, a resident of Lower Dir, was offered in his native village Katan Pyan. District Police Officer Lower Dir Syed Talal Ahmad Shah and other police officers attended the ceremony and paid tribute to the martyr, assuring his family that the sacrifices of police personnel would never be forgotten. Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi paid a brief visit to Hangu and stayed at the Police Club, where he offered prayers for the departed souls of the martyrs and the early recovery of the injured personnel. However, the Chief Minister left Hangu without visiting the injured policemen undergoing treatment in hospital. His decision not to meet the wounded officers has drawn criticism and raised questions in various circles, as several injured personnel remain admitted to hospitals following the attack. In contrast, Additional IG Elite Force Muhammad Ali Gandapur visited the hospital to inquire about the health of the injured policemen. He was accompanied by Regional Commander Elite Hafiz Nazir and DSP CTD Imranuddin. Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed, Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, and Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Tariq Saeed Marwat also visited the hospital and met the injured officers. Speaking to the media, IG Zulfiqar Hameed said the police fought the terrorists with exceptional courage for several hours despite facing drone attacks. He stated that 12 to 14 terrorists were killed during the operation and confirmed that all injured policemen were in stable condition and receiving the best available medical treatment. The IG announced that recommendations would be forwarded for gallantry awards, including the Tamgha-e-Shujaat, for the martyrs and other officers who displayed extraordinary bravery during the operation. He vowed that those responsible for the attack would be brought to justice. Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah praised the courage of the police force, saying their sacrifice demonstrated their unwavering commitment to protecting the people despite grave danger. He also appreciated the district administration and hospital management for ensuring timely medical treatment for the injured. Special Assistant Tariq Saeed Marwat reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to supporting the police force financially and administratively. He said the nature of terrorism had evolved with the use of drones, adding that the government was working to equip the police with anti drone technology and other modern capabilities to effectively counter emerging security threats.
