Jake Reiner recalls exact moment he learned of par…

Jake Reiner has opened up about the devastating moment he learned that his parents, Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner and photographer-producer Michele Singer Reiner, had died.

In a recent interview, Jake recalled receiving a heartbreaking phone call from his sister, Romy, on December 14, 2025. She told him that their father was dead and that she could not find their mother. The shocking news changed the Reiner family forever. (Page Six)

Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Reiner, 70, were found dead at their Brentwood home in Los Angeles in December. Authorities treated the deaths as a homicide, and their son Nick Reiner was arrested and later charged in connection with their deaths.

Jake described the emotional impact of losing both parents while also dealing with the arrest of his brother. In a recent interview, he explained that the tragedy can feel both very recent and impossibly distant.

“It’s been eight months,” Jake said, describing the passage of time as feeling like both years and minutes. He also explained that waking up each day brings a reminder of the reality his family now faces. (Page Six)

Jake and his sister Romy had previously released a joint statement mourning their parents. They described Rob and Michele not simply as their parents, but as their best friends, and asked for privacy as they dealt with the unimaginable loss. (People.com)

The tragedy has also led to a major legal case involving their brother Nick. In August 2026, a Los Angeles County grand jury indicted Nick on two counts of first-degree murder. The indictment includes special circumstances alleging multiple murders, lying in wait and the use of a knife. Nick has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody without bail. (da.lacounty.gov)

The case remains ongoing, and many details surrounding the deaths have not been publicly disclosed. Jake and Romy recently testified before the grand jury that indicted their brother, adding another painful chapter to the family’s story. (People.com)

For Jake, however, the tragedy is not simply a Hollywood headline or legal case. It is the loss of his parents and the family life he knew. His decision to speak publicly offers a deeply personal look at the aftermath of a devastating loss that continues to affect the Reiner family.

LHC acquits man sentenced to life for wife’s…

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court ( LHC) has overturned the life imprisonment sentence of a man convicted of murdering his wife, ruling that the prosecution failed to establish his guilt beyond reasonable doubt. Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh issued a detailed 19-page written judgment, allowing the appeal filed by the convict, Tanveer, and ordering his immediate release. According to the verdict, Tanveer maintained that he was on duty at a petrol station at the time of the incident and denied any involvement in the killing of his wife. The court observed that the prosecution had failed to produce reliable and convincing evidence to support the allegations against him. The judgment concluded that the available evidence was insufficient to sustain the conviction, leading the court to set aside the trial court’s decision and acquit the appellant. Tanveer had been sentenced to life imprisonment in 2022 by a trial court after being found guilty of his wife’s murder. In addition to the prison term, he was fined Rs400,000. He later challenged the conviction before the Lahore High Court, which has now ruled in his favor.

Nawaz Sharif looks beyond AJK: PML-N’s next poli…

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s victory in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections is more than another electoral success. It marks the return of Nawaz Sharif as the party’s undisputed political strategist and sends a clear message that his sights are now set far beyond AJK—towards the next general elections. For months, political observers questioned whether Nawaz Sharif would ever resume an active leadership role. His recent engagement has answered that question decisively. From personally chairing meetings in Murree with party ticket holders to spearheading the election campaign, Nawaz Sharif demonstrated that he remains the final authority within PML-N. The AJK result carries political significance because it is the first major electoral victory under his renewed leadership. It has strengthened his position within the party while boosting the morale of PML-N workers who have long awaited his full return to frontline politics. One defining feature of Nawaz Sharif’s political career has been his ability to think several moves ahead. Those who have closely followed his journey know he rarely makes impulsive decisions. Instead, he carefully plans, builds consensus and prepares the ground long before the political battle begins. Having observed Nawaz Sharif’s politics closely over the past two decades, including during his years in London, I have found that patience and long-term planning remain his greatest political strengths. Today, Nawaz Sharif is supported by two of the strongest pillars within the party. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif continues to lead the federal government at a time when Pakistan has emerged from severe economic challenges. His government has worked to restore macroeconomic stability, rebuild investor confidence and improve Pakistan’s international standing. Equally important has been his unwavering loyalty to his elder brother. Throughout decades of political highs and lows, Shehbaz Sharif has stood firmly beside Nawaz Sharif, rejecting opportunities that could have divided the party and instead prioritising unity. Alongside him is Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who has evolved into the party’s most influential leader of the next generation. During PML-N’s years in opposition, she became the face of the party’s resistance, leading rallies, energising workers and keeping the party politically active during its most difficult period. Since assuming office, she has focused on governance, launching development and welfare initiatives that her supporters believe are reshaping Punjab. With Shehbaz Sharif managing the federation and Maryam Nawaz governing Punjab, Nawaz Sharif appears free to concentrate on what has always been his greatest strength—building the party organisation. His meetings with legislators, workers and local leaders suggest that organisational consolidation is now at the heart of his strategy. The AJK campaign may therefore be remembered as the beginning of a much larger political roadmap. Rather than waiting for the next general election to be announced, Nawaz Sharif appears to be rebuilding PML-N from the ground up, strengthening party structures, reconnecting with workers and preparing candidates well in advance. It is a strategy that has defined many of his previous political successes. Critics who predicted the end of Nawaz Sharif’s political career may need to revisit their assumptions. Pakistan’s political history has repeatedly shown that experienced leaders cannot be measured solely by temporary setbacks. Nawaz Sharif has returned before, and each comeback has reshaped the country’s political landscape. The message emerging after the AJK elections is unmistakable: Nawaz Sharif is looking beyond a single electoral victory. His focus is firmly fixed on preparing PML-N for the next national political contest. Whether one agrees with his politics or not, one reality is becoming increasingly clear: Nawaz Sharif is once again thinking several steps ahead. If history is any guide, that is when he has proved to be at his most politically effective.

Keke Palmer opens up about Sean Evans romance rumo…

Keke Palmer has finally broken her silence on the romance rumours surrounding her and Hot Ones host Sean Evans, admitting that their chemistry is genuine while expressing surprise at how quickly fans have turned their connection into a full-blown love story. The actress and singer appeared on the July 27 episode of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, where she candidly discussed the public fascination with her relationship status. Palmer revealed that she has been repeatedly asked about Evans ever since the pair’s flirtatious interactions and public outings sparked dating speculation.  “Our chemistry is genuine,” Palmer said during the interview, adding that the connection between them has always felt natural from the very first time they worked together. She stressed that the chemistry wasn’t something they planned or created for publicity, explaining that it simply developed organically over time.  However, Palmer admitted she was taken aback by how quickly fans began imagining a serious romance. She joked that people seemed ready to “marry” them before they had even figured out where their friendship was headed. Describing the online reaction as “parasocial,” Palmer said social media often encourages people to create stories about celebrities before those celebrities have had the chance to live them.  The actress even recalled an awkward encounter with a fan while passing through airport security. According to Palmer, someone immediately asked her whether she and Evans were together, leaving her stunned by how invested strangers had become in her personal life. While she appreciated the support, she noted that the experience highlighted just how blurred the line between celebrity and audience can become.  Rumours about Palmer and Evans began earlier this year after they were photographed enjoying dinner together in New York. Their playful chemistry, which dates back to Palmer’s appearances on Hot Ones, had already made them fan favourites. Evans had previously admitted to having a crush on Palmer, and their light-hearted interactions—including an on-camera kiss—only fueled speculation.  Despite the growing buzz, Palmer made it clear she isn’t interested in letting public opinion define their relationship. She described Evans as “my guy” and said they are simply taking things one day at a time instead of rushing to put a label on their connection.  For now, Palmer seems content to let whatever develops happen naturally. While fans continue rooting for the pair, the actress has one simple request: allow them the space to enjoy their genuine bond without writing the ending before the story has even begun.  Keke Palmer has finally broken her silence on the romance rumours surrounding her and Hot Ones host Sean Evans, admitting that their chemistry is genuine while expressing surprise at how quickly fans have turned their connection into a full-blown love story. Kamal: Karachi deserves Rs800bn NFC share

Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal has said that he entered politics as an IT minister 23 years ago and became Karachi’s mayor 21 years ago, claiming that he played a role in ending the politics of violence in the city. Speaking in Karachi, Kamal said he had spoken out against a system in which people could be killed simply for expressing disagreement. He said Karachi’s political and administrative problems could not be resolved without addressing the structural issues facing the city. Kamal claimed that Karachi had not been properly counted in the population census. He said the city’s share under the National Finance Commission (NFC) award would amount to around Rs800 billion this year. He argued that the existing system was damaging not only Karachi but the entire country. According to him, the city continues to face serious problems despite massive spending and a lack of effective administrative arrangements. The federal minister said drinking water was not reaching many parts of Karachi, while the city’s sewage system was also unable to properly dispose of wastewater. He said there was no effective mechanism to transfer sufficient powers and resources to the grassroots level. Kamal further claimed that despite around Rs22,000 billion being spent in the city, Karachi had reached the third position on a global list of cities with poor living conditions. He stressed that the city needed stronger local governance, adequate resources and greater administrative powers at the grassroots level to address its longstanding problems. Commenting on the political debate over administrative units, Kamal said that if the old Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were still in its previous form, the responsibility for incidents such as the Gul Plaza tragedy would have been placed on the party. He said he had advocated the creation of an administrative unit for better governance and claimed that the proposal was now receiving support from different quarters. Kamal added that under the old political environment, such a proposal would have been dismissed as a foreign conspiracy. He maintained that Karachi’s governance problems required practical administrative reforms rather than political accusations.
